Re: The TE Position -- What are we doing?

Interesting take on Raymond. I've heard other reports that he's stood out so far during camp. I was shocked to see where he was on the depth chart when I started watching practice. I assumed he would be in the lead among the undrafted TEs. but he was no better than 7th on the depth chart among the ...

Re: Training Camp: Updates, notes, discussion

RB: Cohen, Davis, Montgomery, and Patterson all get some 1st team reps. Montgomery is still currently participating in special teams drills at this point. Nall looks smooth. Whythe's speed has recently shown up yet. Maybe in the preseason games. WR: Miller seemed to work exclusively out of the slot....

Re: The TE Position -- What are we doing?

Sowell was the surprise of the training camp practices. He really lost weight and moves well. If you look at the big TE's Shaheen, Sowell, and Bunting it wasn't obvious which was an OT last year. He clearly is making the team based on the 1st team reps he is getting in 2 TE packages. Braunecker gets...

Re: TC WR battle prediction

Patterson makes things interesting because he makes it possible to not carry a 4th RB. So I see the guys fighting for a potential 7th WR spot like Marvin Hall and E. Hall also competing against Whythe. If Whythe plays well and more importing looks like he can play on special teams in coverage this s...

Re: Chuck Pagano talk

I don't doubt that Pagano can be a leader and get players to buy in. He's probably a more natural fit in the culture Nagy is creating, butt in game coaching and game planning was the area that I thought Pagano might be a step back from Fangio. Fangio might be old school, but he also studied statisti...

Re: Leonard Floyd discussion

I read this as somewhat of a contradiction. It sounds like you're saying we aren't going to be able to re-sign him when his contract is up. But at the same time you don't want to spend draft capital to replace him. Of course, we do have him for 2 more years, so I guess there's always that time befo...

Re: Leonard Floyd discussion

Pass rushing is so volatile. Fans were saying Vic Beasley is who the Bears should of drafted after he 15.5 sacks in his second season. He followed that up with two 5 sacks seasons and isn't even a full time starter. Melvin Ingram was a bust as a pass rusher with a total of 6 sacks in his first 3 sea...

Re: Way TOO early 53-man roster prediction

I do wonder if Nagy's willingness to use defensive players in short yardage situations, or line up a Sowell at FB means they are more comfortable going with only 3 TE's and no FB on the 53 this season. Maybe that's why they didn't address TE depth with anything more than undrafted FA players beyond ...

Re: David Montgomery - Is this kid the next Kamara/Hunt

They'll do the usual and have Mike Davis begin as the starter and make Montgomery earn it. When I look at the RB group I see Davis and Montgomery as much more similar than different. They can run the exact same offense with either one on the filed making them good injury insurance for each other. I ...

I think he's a shorter Edgerrin James without the long speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPFAvsCAZII" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I can see that. He has the same vision and strength. The cuts right before impact, to make him harder to bring down. I think that the lo...

It has been pretty obvious Pace has been focused on making sure contracts are structured so that the players can easily be cut after 2020 to prepare for not only players coming due for their 2nd contract, but any changes to the CBA in 2021.

Didn't Gabriel have a couple of game stretch where he was catching deep passes? I seem to remember Bears players saying that defenses adjusted how they were respecting Gabriel after that to take away the deep passes with safety help.

Whitehair, Daniels, and Leno may be roughly the same height, but the size differences are apparent when you see them standing next to each other like I have regularly at training camp. Daniels was 20 years old and already a few pounds heavier at the combine than Whitehair was only at 301 at the comb...

Actually listening to Nagy I don't think anything is being floated. A reporter had a pre-determined he wanted to write. They may very will switch. It is worth trying, but I'll believe it when they actually swap with the 1st team in training camp. Having watched these guys up close in training camp I...

Re: Free Agent Target - OLB, Shane Ray

Pace didn't talk about RRH as an OLB. He mentioned that they can use him as part of the outside pass rush. Meaning RRH can play outside DE in sub packages, which happened last year. He was making the point they have flexibility so they could give snaps that Lynch played last season to RRH if they wa...

There currently is a hole on the 53 for a backup center/guard. Larson is more than likely just a training camp body, but he is cover if a player they like to fill that position doesn't fall to them in the draft.

I don't know about Dix, but it wouldn't surprise me that they are looking for another safety with centerfield range. If Bellamy is getting 3.5 million a year then I guess Patterson getting 5 million does make sense. If everyone is healthy then Patterson becomes another versatile tool that at ...

He looked really good last training camp and there is a chance he still develops. Finally starting show the level of athleticism that he tested at before the draft. He can play both TE spots and special teams, which is what is needed out of the 3rd TE.

Sayers would have to outrun everyone, because he'd die if he got hit by a modern day safety or LB. I like Neal Anderson in this offense a lot. Anderson would be ideal. It seems Nagy's offense and even Helfrich's Oregon offense was built on stretching the field laterally and confusing the defense. Nagy is looking to make the linebackers freeze, and he wants his running back to take advantage of that indecision by hitting holes fast. It seems Howard as a slower zone...
