Re: R1 P1: Caleb Williams, QB - USC

Some fun nuggets I pulled from pocdasts: During the pre-draft process, the Bears were allowed three one-hour sessions with Caleb Williams per week. Caleb's "personal coach" has known Shane Waldron for 6-7 years and basically was teaching Caleb the offense during those sessions  They e...

Bruh I remember the first time I saw/heard this! When Prince came out and ripped that solo, my good God I felt something inside me I never felt before. I still fucking get chills listening to it. Does it remind you of Drew Brees? No, but this does <hit play>: https://youtu.be/KmIkJgHISMo?t=176

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

During a Wednesday interview on the Pat McAfee Show, Poles explained why he selected Taylor at No. 122. “I didn’t expect him to get much further. Definitely didn’t think I’d be able to pick him up when we got into the fifth round,” Poles said. “And, really, the thought process there is to make anyo...

Re: R1 P1: Caleb Williams, QB - USC

I never thought I'd see a Caleb Williams draft thread become a Cade McNown thread. https://i.imgflip.com/6y9qe0.jpg Dude...we're Bears fans. We are conditioned to dwell on the failures of the past, while lamenting our general lack of promise for the future. For most of us, we are now in uncharted w...

Hema2.0 wrote: Wed May 01, 2024 1:05 pm Do we all still trust Ryan Poles or is this punter pick in the 4th round of a pretty weak back half 2024 draft what puts us over the edge?
I think he said Tory Taylor is one of the best punters he's ever seen, so if we trust his evaluation skills we should trust them here.

Re: R1 P1: Caleb Williams, QB - USC

Love it! I didn't love everything Prince did, but he was undeniably authentic, and supremely talented. If this apply to CW as well I'll be thrilled. Someone in another thread commented about how we need more players with personality, like the 85 Team. Having thought about it, I agree. While I hate ...

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

I think I read something like Taylor's punting resulted in the opposition requiring 3 more first downs per game (as opposed to touchbacks, etc). For a bend-but-don't-break defense like ours, that is GOLD. Any opportunity where we can pin someone inside the 10 yard line, I fucking want it. I watched...

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

There are positions you can get damn good player in the 4th round, starter level or better. IOL, RB, TE and for you @dplank safety or linebacker all can be had in the 4th and can develop into players. I don’t think it was a deep draft and the talent got thin at that point. I think the chances of To...

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

He has a big leg, but his ability to place the ball is what is most enticing to me. Rugby/Aussie Rules guys know how to put English on the ball and can make it bounce how they want. When you can pin a team inside the 5 it’s damn near a turnover as teams typically just try and create a little room f...

Re: R1 P1: Caleb Williams, QB - USC

I’ve been watching a lot of CW tape. Mostly from 2022. He gets into trouble with his hero passes. The jump passes, throwing across his body to the middle of the field, etc. but when he’s locked in, sliding around the pocket, and then throwing from a stable platform. Good Lord. He generates so much ...

Re: UDFA

That seems really high for a UDFA - unless PS salary can be counted towards the guarantee. 17 wks of PS comes out to 204k. So it would essentially be guaranteeing "you'll at least be on the PS all year or we'll pay you as if you were". But, even so, I feel like the 200k would count agains...

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

In some drafts, this would've been a reach. In 2024, the late fourth round is where everyone seemed to start picking RBs and Canadian linemen. Instead of a dart throw, we got a guy whose upside is perennial All Pro. Sure, he's a punter, but he's the only guy picked nearly this late in the draft who...

Some quoted excerpts from Bob McGinn's annual anony-scout quotes. “I think he probably came out because the defensive side of the (draft) is lighter,” one scout said. “Shouldn’t have. You may not be able to count on him immediately. He’s a really, really interesting guy. He can be a designated rush...
