After a 3-13 season, their worst in franchise history in a 16-game schedule, the Bears are raising ticket prices in most sections for 2017, according to a letter from president Ted Phillips that was sent to season-ticket holders Wednesday.

“Most” sections at Soldier Field for Bears’ 10 home games (two preseason, eight regular season) will see a price increase of 1 to 4 percent, according to the letter, while “some” will see a price decrease. The Bears will also continue to use variable pricing to reflect the value and demand of games, though that won’t affect the overall season-ticket pricing, the team said.

Phillips called the Bears’ season “challenging and disappointing,” adding it’s “one we will not repeat.”

“We shared in your frustration and do not take your passion and loyalty for granted,” Phillips wrote. “We are humbled by your dedication to the Bears and know we must be better.”

Phillips lauded the work of general manager Ryan Pace and coach John Fox in laying a foundation and creating a better culture. The Bears are 9-23 in two years of the Pace/Fox regime.

“There are many reasons to be optimistic for the future,” Phillips wrote. “It starts with our young core. Since Ryan Pace and John Fox arrived, we have gone from one of the oldest teams to one of the youngest.”

"It was a challenging and disappointing season. One we will not repeat."

When I hear that from Ted Phillips mouth I think, "We're doomed!"

The sad thing is they probably wouldn't be doing this if they didn't sell out the stadium 5 seconds after the tickets go online. But people keep buying them, regardless of performance.

And that's the sad truth of the situation and they know it.

Normally that increase wouldn't be a big deal because it's not much more than inflation, especially if some seat prices are going down. But it's easier to criticize after the worst season record since 1969. As has already been said, the people that keep buying keep the prices rising. I've only been to Chicago twice and I've never been to a game at Soldier Field in 30 years of fandom, so it doesn't matter much to me.

The sad thing is that ticket sales is such a small percentage of a team's revenues. Makes this a pointless act that only hurts fans

you guys are missing the point

when Ted said that, he was referring to a drop in team revenue not the team playing record ... and he is sure that won't happen again because, ta-da, he has just raised some prices

We live in an age of perpetual bitching. 1-4% is absolutely nothing. Bet it doesn't even cover any cost increases.

It's normal inflation.

It bugs me hearing Ted Phillips talking about what they are going to do with the salary cap. The only thing I want to hear from him is the price of tickets and hot dogs.

I always thought the Bears were smart for building the smallest capacity stadium in one of the biggest markets when Soldier Field was revamped. No matter how bad the Bears were, they'd be able to find 61,500 with the ~ 3 million people in the Chicago that would want to go to the games.

Bears fans proved me wrong in 2016, and rightfully so.

Yeah, but they haven't raised prices since 2014, seems bad timing to do it after the season we just had. And it's the offseason, the time where the "newsworthiness" bar is ceremoniously lowered.
