In a rising cap longer contracts are better, assuming you don't have piles of guaranteed money or huge signing bonuses. I'm not certain what Pace is thinking with all the one year deals but presumably his drafts are going to be good enough that our entire roster is on a rookie deal...
"I wouldn't take him for a conditional 7th. His next contract will pay him more than he could possibly contribute.".

Noted Brain Genius Malk, Summer 2018.

You don't actually think that do you, your presumption in your 2nd sentence I mean (entire roster on rookie deal (or even anything close to that)). I know it seems hard to criticize Pace here, but remember 4 years ago it was hard to criticize Emery. Gotta call it like you see it.

I'm being facetious. Pace has got me a little salty this off season and whilst I like his drafting, his management of the cap leaves a lot to be desired. His entire plan now seems to be draft brilliantly. I liked the McPhee, Trevathan and Freeman signings and could see where he was trying to take the team, now, I'm just confused.

With the guys we have coming off injuries is it surprising to anyone else we haven't done anything at LB? I know there wasn't a lot there, but still seems weird as we focused everywhere else.

i thought for sure we'd look at bringing another ILB in (with trevathan's injury). Not a trevathan-level signing, but our only ILB depth is kwiatkowski. I thought maybe Michael Wilhoite made alot of sense with his connection to fangio, and he signed for peanuts in seattle. wouldnt have minded us looking at zach brown too.

jon bostic is still out there waiting for his phone to ring!

Which makes their visit with Foster kind of interesting.

Seems Adam Schefter and Peter King confirm that Alshon really had no plans on staying in Chicago...

I apologize if this was posted before but I can't find any info regarding it...

How does that article imply he wouldn't stay? Sounds like he was just doing research then shafted Schefter on the scoop...?

Here is an updated depth chart I moved Hall to free safety and RRH to DE. They have 76 players under contract.

Well Alshon made a point of tweeting he never did this, so either Adam Schefter is lying or Alshon feels like he needs to hide this...

always thought Alshon came across as a bit of a dick, to be honest.

Doesn't surprise me he'd do something like that.

Alshon is a strange dude who I have no doubt is a competitor, but is definitely not a leader.

to his credit, he never really claimed a leadership role ... just went out and dazzled us with catches on the game days he was healthy enough / not suspended from

I for one am sorry to see him go

Bears sign linebacker Dan Skuta

http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/bear ... dan-skuta/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In signing outside linebacker Dan Skuta to a one-year deal Monday, the Bears reunited the eight-year veteran with the defensive coordinator who helped shape his career. Skuta played well enough for Vic Fangio from 2013-14 to earn a five-year, $20.5 million contract to leave the 49ers for the Jaguars, where he spent the last two seasons.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-be ... dan-skuta/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

-Skuta had the best two seasons of his career in San Francisco under Fangio. In 2013, his highest graded season, he ranked sixth in pass rushing productivity an seventh in run stop percentage (minimum 100 passing/run snaps).
-Skuta was a very efficient tackler last year, not missing a single tackle and recording 16 stops in his 267 snaps. He was one of only seven outside linebackers in 2016 to not miss a single tackle (minimum 150 snaps).
-A situational player, Skuta has never played more than 50 percent of snaps in a season and has seen his snap percentage decline the past three seasons.

now please enjoy the comedy stylings of some CCS posters misspelling his name.

Decent signing.

I predict a rash of "Skutka" cos it sounds (vaguely) like Ditka.

interesting, interesting...

if Skuta can pick up his game for us this may be a worthwhile addition to our D rotation

and if there's a DC that can get something out of him, Fangio can.

He just turned 31 this year so he should still have some gas in the tank.

He's a good run down defender and special teams player. I can't see (aside from injury) how any team runs on the Bears defense.

However, if the secondary doesn't hold up, teams won't have to run.

At OLB
You have Mcphee, Young, and Floyd as locks.

Leaving Houston, Skuta, Acho, and possibly Jones to fight for 1-2 spots. Not exactly the fountain of youth.
