Former #Seahawks and #Saints DL John Jenkins is visiting the #Bears today, source said, and he’s at the #Colts tomorrow. A rare true NT

Interesting, put Jenkins in the middle with Goldman and Hicks on the outside. I'm not sure if Goldman would be as effective on the outside, but it would be interesting to see.

Love that we're looking for a backup to Goldman, but uff da, Jenkins can't be our answer.

No one would be able to run on the front...that's for sure.

That is a massive man... plop him down and just let him eat up two blockers each play...

Just noticed that his struggles in NO happened after they switched to a 4-3. That makes me feel a lot better about this: his career's been pretty meh, but he's been miscast everywhere he's played. Make him a 1- or 2-down NT, and he might could be a player for us. And manoman, we'll be murder on running downs.

I like the signing/depth etc., but thought that Terry Williams could have filled that role. Reports were fairly positive on him at a point. Is he even still with us?

Looking at the stats, da Bears were one of the worst at defending the run last season. This guy has the size to really help turn that around.

Not having Goldman was a big part of that too but Jenkins will certainly help us out on that front. Football Outsiders had us at 20th against the run (just the d-line) and 28th overall. One way of stopping the defence allowing too many big runs is to not let them get there in the first place!

Now can Goldman kick out to end on running downs?

Sure. One of the principal concepts of Fangio's 3-4 is that many of the parts should essentially be interchangeable. So, for instance, Goldman could slide to 5-tech while Hicks does the same at the nose. Similarly, the strong outside backer can flip inside when the inside backer aligns outside versus certain lineups.

Jenkins is a pure nose; he lacks the quickness to do much but clog the middle. (He's been a backup for a reason.) But in limited snaps, his presence adds some depth.

A little surprised

Yes, the Bears were terrible against the run last year, but Sutton was down for half the season and Goldman for more than that.

Jenkins needs to lose weight if he's really 360.

Looks like bad news for Sutton, though, because a 6 ft guy with 31" alligator arms ain't playin E.

I wonder if Goldman lost some weight and will slide over to DE in the base. Hicks-Jenkins-Goldman makes a very stout base 3 man line.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

I wonder if this is as a hedge/depth against Goldman's health, or if they are planning on kicking Goldman out to DE.

Hedge/depth. You can't sacrifice the structure of your defense every time this dude gets hurt.

I think there's still room on the roster for depth DTs so I'm not reading anything into this other than Byebye Ego

360? that is a mass of humanity

I guess he is our new Keith Traylor

Traylor was in the 330 - 340 range when he made that rumbling interception return
