Imagine if your general manager traded up to take a kicker in the second round, wouldn't that be wild?

Imagine if you're Connor Barth and might lose your job to this kid 2 years in a row

I know we made fun of him last year, but if he has the talent maybe change of scenery will do him good

He was pretty much money for 3 years in college. 198 of 198 on xp, 88.9 % on FG.
Kickers are weird and often don't work out on the first go round or they are great for a long time and then all of a sudden aren't.
Good enough for a flyer considering barph.

Swirling winds might help, but who trusts Jeff Rodgers and Derius Swinton II? They do have Prater on their resumes.bearsfaninaz wrote:I know we made fun of him last year, but if he has the talent maybe change of scenery will do him good

One of the best kickers in college history and has been a bad joke in the NFL. Don't know if it's worth it, but if he does well with a change of scenery, Bears found a good one. Just depends on if he remembers how to kick.

poor guy was doomed from day one. a position that's basically 100% confidence-based, and the bucs literally traded half their draft to take him.
i'm mildly impressed that the bucs atleast were smart enough to realize this after only one season.

I have no real issue with this. I'm not in love with our kicker and he took the place of a guy I was pretty positive wasn't going to make the roster. May as well see if a change of scenery gets him back to how he kicked in college.

Agree. Low risk high potential reward. You let our coaches see what they can do with him for 3 weeks and if it works, you hit the jackpot. If it doesn't, you cut bait and lose nothing.BR0D1E86 wrote:I have no real issue with this. Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

IF he can regain his confidence and form then it is a steal, if not, don't think there is much risk to the team to try him out.

Good read here on Aguayo's mechanics... wonder if we attempt to overhaul him

Kickers, while being weird are really fascinating in the aspect that they are so hard to predict who will be good.
Look at Robbie Gould's college stats and tell me with an honest face that you knew he would turn into a 10 year rock solid kicker.
The only kicker I have seen in my lifetime that I thought was a lock to be a good to great NFL kicker out of college was Janikowski for me. And that was more due to his running down the field in college and hitting people like a MLB moreso than his kicking, which was also pretty good in college along with having a huge leg. I remember nicknaming him or hearing the nickname "Polish Nightmare" and watching him just level people on kickoffs.

I know, and he is only a little over 80 percent for his career, but his long leg on kickoffs and potential for long field goals make up a little of that.G08 wrote:Funny thing about Janikowski... his rookie year his FG% was worse than Aguayo's!
IDK if he was worth the 17th pick in the draft, but they have locked up their kicker spot for 17 seasons with it and going.

Plenty of CAP and last I heard it doesn't come out of my bank account. Give him a shot.

Maybe their place holder is just horrible and that is attributing to the lack of success

I'm kind of curious to see how this works... does Aguayo get every kickoff and FG attempt tomorrow to see if he's worth a shit? Do they alternate? What's the approach here...

One approach would be: Aguayo gets the 1st FG and the first 2 EP, then they're tied for preseason attempts. Thereafter, they alternate with Barth first because he's first string.
A more interesting approach would be to give Barth all the attempts with the 1st string offense, only the first FG and EP with the 2nd string, and no other. This would result in Aguayo getting all the attempts.

Dude....kickers are a complete wreck across the entire league right now.
I don't know what in the hell is going on, but I'm all for overturning any and every stone trying to find the best option.
