Even when I thought it was what it wasn’t, I kinda though “I’m not surprised”.

The only way I think he saves his ass is if the defense keeps getting better AND Trubisky takes off in Loggains' offense.
Outside of that? I'd hate to lose Fangio/Donatell... but we have to be honest in that this is 100% about Mitch Trubisky's development.

yeah? well it won't surprise me if John Fox is extended ... probably not for 5 years, but I could see the Bears doing 2Otis Day wrote:I was confident it wasn't John Fox and my confidence held, for once.

I think Foxie has a year left on his deal. My guess is that they won't give him an extension--why would they with a pretty terrible record after 3 years? Then they let him play out the last year of his contract--for continuity's sake with young QB. Then they let him ride off into the sunset when his contract expires. That makes a lot of sense because...
1. The Bears really tend to be patient about making lots of changes.
2. Coaching change after young QB rookie year may hinder development.
3. Don't have to pay Fox if he doesn't get another job right away.
4. Fox turned around the culture, which was his primary purpose.

The only thing that makes me doubt your assertion is that there was a report by Chris Mortenson saying that the Bears will have a new HC in 2018 and he's usually on the money.

Every time I watch a Fox press conference, I get the vibe that he isn't worried about losing his job. Is this because he may be nearing retirement and doesn't care or does Pace and Fox have some kind of agreement to play this out to the end of Fox's contract?Boris13c wrote:yeah? well it won't surprise me if John Fox is extended ... probably not for 5 years, but I could see the Bears doing 2Otis Day wrote:I was confident it wasn't John Fox and my confidence held, for once.
If you were Pace setting yourself up for that second contract from Halas Hall, would you be better off firing Fox at the end of this year and riding with a new head coach for 2 years heading into your contract negotiations or only having 1 year with a new coach/Fox extension before the same?
Pace has to be thinking about his best chances for a contract renewal by now. What's his move?

could go either way I guess
but I have a sneaky suspicion John Fox is in fact his guy ... so if Pace is considering the future, and he is committed to Fox, then Fox gets a 2 years extension so they succeed or fail together by the time Pace's contract is up

That's not my read. I just think that Fox has been around the block enough that he has zero fucks to give. He does his best his way and if he never gets a job again, well, he isn't about to grow a fuck.Boris13c wrote:Hematite wrote:Every time I watch a Fox press conference, I get the vibe that he isn't worried about losing his job.
