I believe Carmichael is already on Pace' short list. Pace has copied the saints blueprint, acquiring Carmichael would be his finishing stamp. Whatever happens, I believe Pace has to have Fangio 100% on board with the decision. McDaniel is intriguing, he sat under Bill. Bill is a defensive coach that understands you have to systematically move the ball on offense. McDaniel has learned how to win not only regular season games but playoff games and super bowls. He's also worked with the greatest QB of all time. When you surround youself with the best, it tends to rub off. Those learning experiences he has picked up from Bill/Brady are priceless.

I also cannot stand him, but he is the goods. He has coached under Belichek, twice, has worked with Brady, seems to be a matchup genius, has dealt with less than stellar personnel (WR, RB) and constantly gets the job done.

I listened to Michael Lombardi on the radio and he made it sound like Josh McDaniels is going to want control over the roster... not so sure that is something Pace will want to give up.Otis Day wrote:G08 wrote:Give this a read on Josh McDaniels...

I don't get the praise for McDaniels that points to Brady. That guy was great before McDaniels, with McDaniels, when McDaniels was in Denver and now that he's back. The greatness constant was Brady, not McDaniels. I'm not saying McDaniels won't succeed elsewhere or with another QB. But pointing to Brady's success doesn't necessarily say much about McDaniels. It's relatively easy to coach a first ballot hall of famer.
And if he wants to go from OC to HC with roster control? No thanks. He hasn't earned that.

As a head coach? With only one year as a coordinator with a seasoned veteran QB? Yikes.G08 wrote:Matt Nagy intrigues the fuck out of me.
If I'm going for a guy who doesn't have much experience, I'd lean more to Frank Reich, who took a QB just coming out of his rookie year and helped him become an MVP candidate.

10 years with Andy Reid and the players rave about him. Played the position, was an All-American in college... dude is young and is obsessed with the game... I'd roll the dice for sure.

He needs to be paired with a strong defensive coordinator; maybe Fangio would stick around, maybe not. Maybe Ed Donatell will get promoted... maybe he'll poach someone from the Chiefs' staff. He's my guy.Adipost wrote:I’m a big fan as well.G08 wrote:Matt Nagy intrigues the fuck out of me.

I think year 3 of a coach's tenure a team needs to see the arrow pointing up firmly. I think it is on defense, but not on offense or special teams. We still are losing games we should win.wab wrote:I just want everyone to be prepared for when the Bears don't fire Fox.
If Fox goes into his lame duck year, Loggains likely returns and Fangio leaves. If that season is a complete shitshow then I wouldn't be surprised to see McCaskey tell Pace to take a hike even though he'll have one year left on his contract.
His best move is getting rid of Fox, bringing in someone to tie to Mitch Trubisky, and give them 2 years before ownership needs to decide if they want to extend Pace or tell him to hit the bricks.

I dont really believe that the loss to the packers was "the game that sealed fox's fate." i think that's a bold, emotional statement that feels good saying because fans hate the packers so much. It's a very, very real possibility that Fox plays out his contract here.wab wrote:I just want everyone to be prepared for when the Bears don't fire Fox.
There were positives to take away from the game, and despite the anger the offense is slowly coming along week by week. not as fast as people want, but our OL are also exposing themselves a bit and on top of our WR situation there are some handy built in excuses for all parties involved.

Right now following the Packers debacle, this is a really pertinent comment.wab wrote:I just want everyone to be prepared for when the Bears don't fire Fox.
I'm not sure Fox will be back at this point. But the Bears are pretty conservative when it comes to changing coaches. So you could be dead on right.

What happens when Fangio bails, Bears fire Loggains as a scapegoat and Fox is a lame duck coach?Mikefive wrote:Right now following the Packers debacle, this is a really pertinent comment.wab wrote:I just want everyone to be prepared for when the Bears don't fire Fox.

Who the fuck are the bears going to bring in at OC and DC to work for a HC with a shit record who is in the last year of his contract? lol, Fox is fucking gone.
You really can't bring Fox back without extending him. As you say, it sounds like Fangio doesn't want to work for Fox and is definitely gone if he stays. Loggains may not get fired, but he's a pretty likely scapegoat.botfly10 wrote:What happens when Fangio bails, Bears fire Loggains as a scapegoat and Fox is a lame duck coach?Mikefive wrote:Right now following the Packers debacle, this is a really pertinent comment.wab wrote:I just want everyone to be prepared for when the Bears don't fire Fox.

What coaches are going to come in and work for a 1 year contract Fox? Nobody with any options. Next year will be a train wreck. He has to go or be extended. And he can't be extended or my head will explode like that dude in Scanners.

Heard a New Orleans beat writer just say that he thinks Carmichael is a nice guy, smart, but pretty much a mouthpiece for Sean Payton. Doesn't think he's head-coaching material.

That basically confirms my worry. With how that offense has performed, he should have had a HC gig by now. But not only is he not a HC, he's only gotten a token interview here and there.G08 wrote:Heard a New Orleans beat writer just say that he thinks Carmichael is a nice guy, smart, but pretty much a mouthpiece for Sean Payton. I don't know enough about any of these guys s to form a full opinion. I will say that I think McDaniels has a chance to be one of those guys that really learned from his first job and be really good the second time around. If he wants personnel control though, I'm out.
Nagy interests me a lot, but I'm no sure he's experienced enough. He'd need a real experienced D.C. to help him. Ours wants to leave, unfortunately.
We need to get the next hire right though, or we're probably looking at a new personnel guy too and a lot longer stretch of sucking.
