I don't hate it.
Timing is pretty interesting, given that Fangio's officially free to leave tomorrow at 3pm.

Holy shit I'm old - the Bears just hired a Head Coach younger than me. And he only has 6 years experience.

My excitement lies solely in the fact that this guy is more than willing to incorporate some of the college stuff we know these QB's (and Mitch) are comfortable and with and have experience running.

Tis true.
Lets now forget that all the reports were that Nagy loved him some Biscuit. Wanted to get that biscuit. Needed that biscuit. Now he gets to coach the biscuit.

The Andy Reid coaching tree is pretty stellar as it includes John Harbaugh, Ron Rivera, and Doug Pedersen.
With that in mind, for what it’s worth, Reid called Matt Nagy the best assistant on any side he’s ever had.

@ChrisWesseling
Andy Reid has told @caplannfl that Nagy is the best head coaching prospect he’s ever had. Will be interesting to see Trubisky develop under his watch

He cited command among several aspects of his coaching ability.

How much experience do you have?
EDIT: It'd be cool if the mods here restored my ability to quote a post/create a thread.

The timing would suggest so.Mikefive wrote:Therein lies the source of my optimism. It's not like Nagy has much of a resume.UOK wrote:@RobertZeglinski

Any word on whether he's OK with Fangio?
I am not disappointed, although I had hoped for Flip. Just trying to put Saturday's choke out of my mind. So glad we don't have to play the waiting game. Credit to Pace for moving quickly. I'm impressed.
Bleeding Navy and Orange!!! GO BEARS!!
Per Rapoport being interviewed on NFL Network right now.
We are negotiating with Fangio, trying to get a deal done by midnight. So, he doesn't have a chance to leave and interview with anyone else.

Am I the only one expecting to see Albert Wilson and Zach Fulton be priority Free Agents?

As long as the Bears don't go to a roster of undersized WR's. One or two is enough.Adipost wrote:Christian Kirk is a no brainer at this point.wab wrote:Am I the only one expecting to see Albert Wilson and Zach Fulton be priority Free Agents?
Meredith, White, Wilson, Rookie (Kirk), Bellamy, Gentry. Maybe Inman fits in there too.

I LOVE THIS HIRE!!
This is fantastic. I really liked Nagy. I like his pedigree, I like his age, I like his history with Alex Smith.
A couple of thoughts, based on previous comments;
- Of course Reid is going to say those things. The proudest moment of any GOOD manager, is when one of his subordinates gets a deserved promotion.
-I appreciate the love for DeFilippo, but I think the kid needs more seasoning. I believe that he is still a few years away from running his own team. I REALLY dislike McDaniels, and I am glad that the rumors of Pace focusing on him were untrue, or didn't pan out. The old saying, 'a crooked tree doesn't suddenly grow straight' applies here. McD is who he is.
-Obviously the Bears really liked Nagy, and want to hold on to Fangio. They wanted to get their new HC in front of Fangio before he was a FA. My guess is that Nagy and Fangio will be sitting down and talking in the next couple of days.
Really like this hire. Two of my primary 'wants' for a new HC were 1) same generation as Pace, 2) No HC re-treads.
I really want to go back and watch the final four games for the KC Chiefs, and see what we may come to expect next year.

I would be more than happy to have Fangio as the highest paid DC in the league. He deserves it, after turning chicken shit into lobster bisque.Richie wrote:Per Rapoport being interviewed on NFL Network right now.

They better be sitting down and talking right now, because Fangio can leave the building tonight and go somewhere else.My guess is that Nagy and Fangio will be sitting down and talking in the next couple of days.

I guess we know which reporters are full of shyte now.
While it's true that Nagy was the last interview, there was quite a lot of Flip media momentum. This one was something nobody really anticipated. A lot like trading up for Trubisky. Maybe it's undeserved, but it sure feels like Pace deserves a(nother) hat tip for not letting any of his intentions get out.

Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".
