2000 DRAFT

1 9 Brian Urlacher
MLB New Mexico
2 39 Mike Brown
FS Nebraska
3 69 Dez White
WR Georgia Tech
3 87 Dustin Lyman
TE Wake Forest
4 125 Reggie Austin
DB Wake Forest
6 170 Frank Murphy
RB Kansas State
6 174 Paul Edinger
K Michigan State
7 223 James Cotton
DE Ohio State
7 254 Michael Green
SAF

FINAL GRADE: B-

Homeruns with Urlacher and Brown, though Brown’s career flamed out sooner than it should have. Gree, Edinger, and White contributed for a few years.

2000 RE DRAFT

1- LB- Brian Urlacher
2- DB- Deon Grant (Brown was great but numbers and durability say Grant)
3- WR- Laverneaus Coles*
3- TE- Aaron Shea*
4- DB- Mario Edwards (started 3 seasons in dallas)
6- WR- Charles Lee
6- K- Paul Edinger
7- LB- Danny Clark ( routine starter for 8 seasons)
7- DB- Michael Green

FINAL GRADE: B

Coles is a significant upgrade over Dez.

2001 DRAFT

1 8 David Terrell
WR Michigan
2 38 Anthony Thomas
RB Michigan
3 68 Mike Gandy
G Notre Dame
4 103 Karon Riley
DE Minnesota
5 138 Bernard Robertson
G Tulane
7 208 John Capel
--

FINAL GRADE: D

A-Train is the only guy who made an impact. Terrell was a huge bust, especially when you scroll down to see who we could have had.

2001 RE DRAFT

1- WR- Reggie Wayne (tragic)
2- RB- Travis Henry (decent little career)
3- T- Ryan Diem*
4- LB- Ed Hartwell
5- T- Brandon Gorin (starter for 3 years)
7- WR- Quentin McCord (sad that Houshamazilly from Bengals went 4 picks before this spot)

FINAL GRADE: B

Reggie Wayne and Diem could have been playing for us against the colts in SBXLI.

2002 DRAFT

1 29 Marc Colombo
T Boston College
3 72 Roe Williams
CB Tuskegee
3 93 Terrence Metcalf
G Mississippi
4 104 Alex Brown
DE Florida
5 140 Bobby Gray
DB Louisiana Tech
5 165 Bryan Knight
DE Pittsburgh
6 199 Adrian Peterson
RB Georgia Southern
6 203 Jamin Elliott
WR Delaware
6 210 Bryan Fletcher
TE

FINAL GRADE: D

Alex Brown was a nice pickup, and Whoopi Peterson became a longtime backup/ST guy. That’s about it. Colombo didn’t turn things around until he got to Dallas.
2002 RE DRAFT

1- T- Chester Pitts
3- DB- Brian Williams (vikings)
3- G- Jonathan Goodwin
4- DE- Aaron Kampman (Packers....you could flip a coin with him and Alex Brown but Kampman did have 13 more sacks and 2 pro bowls)
5- DB- Jermaine Phillips (regular starter for 6 years)
5- LB- Nick Rogers
6- RB- Chester Taylor (AP had the better Bears career though haha)
6- WR- Ronald Curry (starter for a few years in Oakland)
6- TE- Bryan Fletcher

FINAL GRADE: B

Significant jump in the talent.

2003 DRAFT (Jauron’s last, a good one)

1 14 Michael Haynes
DE Penn State
1 22 Rex Grossman
QB Florida
2 35 Charles Tillman
CB Louisiana-Lafayette
3 68 Lance Briggs
OLB Arizona
4 100 Todd Johnson
DB Florida
4 116 Ian Scott
DT Florida
5 139 Bobby Wade
WR Arizona
5 143 Justin Gage
WR Missouri
5 171 Tron LaFavor
DT Florida
6 191 Joe Odom
LB Purdue
6 206 Brock Forsey
RB Boise State
7 261 Bryan Anderson
G

FINAL GRADE: B
Big whiff on the first pick, but you gotta give it up for the Tillman and Briggs picks which set up Lovie nicely. And Rexy DID get us to a SB at QB. Johnson and Scott became key reserves on that ’06 team as well.

2003 RE DRAFT

1- DE- Robert Mathis (major steal in the 5th)
1- QB- Rex Grossman (weak QB class...if only Miller had waited 1 more year to poop out...maybe we could've had Eli, Rivers, or Worhtlessburger in '04)
2- DB- Asante Samuel (it's never fun to pick somebody over a Bears legend, but Samuel was elite early in his career when Tillman was middle of the road. 3 more PB's and 13 more INT's. Yes Peanut has the edge in FF's and probably return tds, but you don't draft players to be late career bloomers...you draft them to be great early).
3- LB- Lance Briggs (making it even harder to drop Tillman, because of his selfish lazy ways toward the end...but he was arguably the best at his position for 5-7 years)
4- DB- Yeremiah Bell *
4- DT- Aubrayo Franklin*
5- WR- Kevin Walter
5- WR- Justin Gage
5- DT- Langston Moore
6- LB- Scott Shanle (regular starter for 7 years)
6- RB- Brock Forsey (he keeps his 1 game of glory)
7- G- Bryan Anderson

Final GRADE: B+
Obviously 3 all pro studs make this draft a great one (Mathis, Samuel, Briggs). Bell, Franklin, and Shanle become dependable starters to the end of the decade.

2004 DRAFT

1 14 Tommie Harris
DT Oklahoma
2 47 Tank Johnson
DT Washington
3 78 Bernard Berrian
WR Fresno State
4 110 Nathan Vasher
CB Texas
4 112 Leon Joe
LB Maryland
5 147 Claude Harriott
DE Pittsburgh
5 148 Craig Krenzel
QB Ohio State
7 215 Alfonso Marshall
CB

FINAL GRADE: C+
Harris was the best DT in football for about 3 years. Vash was a great product of the system for about 3 years. Berrian overachieved nicely. Tank was a force even if off the bench usually.

2004 RE DRAFT

1- DT- Darnell Dockett (Harris would've been better if not for the injuries)
2- DT- Randy Starks*
3- WR- Jericho Cotchery
4- DB- Nathan Vasher (still holds up to the others despite flaming out fast)
4- LB- Brandon Chillar (starter for a couple seasons)
5- DE- Bobby McCray (30 sacks)
5- QB- Jim Sorgi (Peyton's backup for a few years)
7- DB- Jacques Reeves
FINAL GRADE: B-

Dockett and Starks stayed healthy and out of trouble, only reason they turned out better than Tommie and Tank. Cotchery is STILL catching balls.

2005 DRAFT

1 4 Cedric Benson
RB Texas
2 39 Mark Bradley
WR Oklahoma
4 106 Kyle Orton
QB Purdue
5 140 Airese Currie
WR Clemson
6 181 Chris Harris
FS Louisiana-Monroe
7 220 Rod Wilson
LB

FINAL GRADE: C-
Harris and Orton salvage this disaster. Benson became good for a couple years but only after he left the Bears. Bradley was BUST central.

2005 RE DRAFT

1- RB- Frank Gore ( slipped to the 3rd because of injuries but i knew SF got a a steal...he was a stud at the U)
2- WR- Vincent Jackson (wow)
4- QB- Ryan Fitzpatrick (close, but Fitz is still doing it and about to get PAID for the 2nd time. Orton never really got even 1 big payday.
5- WR- LeRon McCoy
6- DB- Chris Harris
7- DB- Hamza Abdullah
FINAL GRADE: B-

Gore, Jackson, and Fitz mark this up one whole grade.

2006 DRAFT

2 42 Danieal Manning
FS Abilene Christian
2 57 Devin Hester
DB Miami (Fla.)
3 73 Dusty Dvoracek
DT Oklahoma
4 120 Jamar Williams
LB Arizona State
5 159 Mark Anderson
DE Alabama
6 195 J.D. Runnels
RB Oklahoma
6 200 Tyler Reed
G

FINAL GRADE: B-

Hester was the main grab here…THE GOAT at return man. Manning was a late bloomer at safety. Dangerous KR too. Anderson disappeared after his monster rookie year.

2006 RE DRAFT

2- DB- Antoine Bethea (6th rd steal...good class of DB's)
2- DB- Devin Hester (obviously we were going for a return man, and landed the best ever).
3- DT- Kyle Williams*
4- LB- Omar Gaither
5- DE- Jeremy Mincey (Anderson has more sacks, but Mincey has always been a regular starter and Anderson flamed out a few years ago).
6- FB- JD Runnels
6- G- Zach Strief

FINAL GRADE: A-
Bethea would have been Brown’s successor. Williams, Gaither, Mincey, and Strief are all upgrades.

2007 DRAFT (Angelo and Lovie's Beginning of the End)

1 31 Greg Olsen
TE Miami (Fla.)
2 62 Dan Bazuin
DE Central Michigan
3 93 Garrett Wolfe
RB Northern Illinois
3 94 Michael Okwo
LB Stanford
4 130 Josh Beekman
G Boston College
5 167 Kevin Payne
SAF Louisiana-Monroe
5 168 Corey Graham
CB New Hampshire
7 221 Trumaine McBride
CB Mississippi
7 241 Aaron Brant
T

FINAL GRADE: D

Olsen and Graham were the only decent grabs and neither were ever used right in Chicago.

2007 RE DRAFT

1- TE- Greg Olsen (hit it out of the park with the Olsen in a twist of irony...they just never knew it).
2- DE- Charles Johnson*(ugh)
3- RB- Ahmad Bradshaw (Hey look a REAL RB, not a dwarf disguised as one. Giants picked him 4 rds later...last RB in the draft)
3- LB- Antwan Barnes
4- C- Uche Nwaneri
5- DB- Corey Graham* (He actually went after Payne with the very next pick. You could argue William Gay here, but Graham's late career surge has put him ahead).
5- DB- William Gay* (oh look we still get Gay!)
7- DB- Alan Ball (slight edge to him over McBride because Ball did get paid like a starter last year and has played in more games)
7- G- Aaron Brant

Final Grade:

B

4-6 starters. Johnson is a stud. Olsen blooms sooner with a better QB.

2008 DRAFT

1 14 Chris Williams
OT Vanderbilt
2 44 Matt Forte
RB Tulane
3 70 Earl Bennett
WR Vanderbilt
3 90 Marcus Harrison
DT Arkansas
4 120 Craig Steltz
DB Louisiana State
5 142 Zack Bowman
CB Nebraska
5 158 Kellen Davis
TE Michigan State
7 208 Ervin Baldwin
DE Michigan State
7 222 Chester Adams
G Georgia
7 243 Joey LaRocque
LB Oregon State
7 247 Kirk Barton
T Ohio State
7 248 Marcus Monk
WR

FINAL GRADE: B-

Angelo redeemed himself a little a year after the 2007 draft debacle, even though Williams is a bust. Forte, Bennett, Steltz, Bowman all became contributors. Forte had a great career in Chicago…2nd best to Sweetness.

2008 RE DRAFT

1- T- Duane Brown
2- RB- MATT FORTE
3- WR- Pierre Garcon*
3-DT- Ahtyba Rubin*
4- DB- Ryan Mundy
5- DB- Cary Williams
5- TE- Kellen Davis
7- DE- Rob Jackson
7- G- Mackenzy Bernadeau
7- LB- David Vobora
7- T- Kirk Barton
7- WR- Marcus Monk

Final GRADE: B+

Brown, Garcon, and Rubin are nice additions.

2009 DRAFT (The Cutler Trade Hangover Draft)

3 68 Jarron Gilbert
DT San Jose State
3 99 Juaquin Iglesias
WR Oklahoma
4 105 Henry Melton
DE Texas
4 119 D.J. Moore
DB Vanderbilt
5 140 Johnny Knox
WR Abilene Christian
5 154 Marcus Freeman
OLB Ohio State
6 190 Al Afalava
DB Oregon State
7 246 Lance Louis
G San Diego State
7 251 Derek Kinder
WR

FINAL GRADE: C-

I think Angelo was still slamming high end whiskey shots and snorting Walter White meth over the Cutler trade a few weeks earlier when he made our first 2 picks. Gilbert and Iglesias were AWFUL picks. Melton became special for a year or two. Knox made a Pro Bowl. Moore was good for a season. Louis was solid too for a couple seasons.

2009 RE DRAFT

3- DT- Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton (4 picks AFTER the guy who popularized YouTube for Bears fans haha)
3- WR- Julian Edelman (Do any scouts employed by the Bears during this time still work in the league??? Sad if they do.)
4- DE- Henry Melton (the one pick that shouldn't have worked but did, haha)
4- DB- Jason McCourty (DJ just not on the same level)
5- WR- Brandon Gibson (Knox was the better player but the spinal injury gives the edge to Gibson who' still floating around)
5-LB- Brad Jones
6- DB- Jamarca Sanford
7- G- Lance Louis (Pro Bowls were in his future if not for Allen's cheapshot)
7- WR- Tiquan Underwood

Final GRADE: B
Not a franchise altering draft but much better. Pot Roast and Edelman set the team up to present day at DT and slot WR. Gibson could still possibly contribute.

2010 DRAFT

3 75 Major Wright
DB Florida
4 109 Corey Wootton
DE Northwestern
5 141 Joshua Moore
DB Kansas State
6 181 Dan LeFevour
QB Central Michigan
7 218 J'Marcus Webb
T West Texas A&M

FINAL GRADE: D-
Only Wright and Wooton became starters worth mentioning. How is Webb still in the league?

2010 RE DRAFT

3- DB- Kam Chancellor (5th rd...just vomited)
4- DE- Greg Hardy (this ENTIRE list has been about on field merits...not off field stupidity)
5- DB- Nolan Carroll (Packers)
6- QB- Zac Robinson
7- T- J'Marcus Webb

Final GRADE: B-

Not many picks to play with but a homerun with Chancellor! Hardy too ON the field.

2011 DRAFT (ANGELO’S LAST! HALLELUJAH!)

1 29 Gabe Carimi
T Wisconsin
2 53 Stephen Paea
DT Oregon State
3 93 Chris Conte
DB California
5 160 Nathan Enderle
QB Idaho
6 195 J.T. Thomas
LB

FINAL GRADE: D

Carimi was an EPIC bust. Conte became the most hated Bear in recent memory. Only Paea had some success.

2011 RE DRAFT

1- T- Orlando Franklin
2- DT- Jurell Casey
3- DB- Chris Conte
5- QB- Tyrod Taylor
6- LB- Malcolm Smith (key member of Hawks D now)

Final grade: B-

Franklin a major step up from Carimi and Casey and Smith are upgrades. Tyrod is maybe our starting QB today.

2012 DRAFT (Emery’s 1st)
1 19 Shea McClellin
DE Boise State
2 45 Alshon Jeffery
WR South Carolina
3 79 Brandon Hardin
FS Oregon State
4 111 Evan Rodriguez
TE Temple
6 184 Isaiah Frey
CB Nevada-Reno
7 220 Greg McCoy
CB

FINAL GRADE: C-
Emery’s first draft begins disasterously. HIS WORST pick. Then immediately follows with perhaps his BEST. Then followed it with ANOTHER run of bad jokes.

2012 RE DRAFT

1- DE- Chandler Jones (Bellichick mustve seen our pick and laughed his a$$ off!)
2- WR- Alshon Jeffery (though Hilton has slightly better numbers, I don't think anyone would argue that Hilton is the game changer that AJ is).
3- DB- George Iloka
4- TE- James Hanna
6- DB- Alfonso Dennard
7- DB- Antonio Allen

Final Grade: B-

Some decent depth in a few spots, but Jones and AJ are the darlings of this class.

2013 DRAFT

1 20 Kyle Long
OG Oregon
2 50 Jon Bostic
ILB Florida
4 117 Khaseem Greene
OLB Rutgers
5 163 Jordan Mills
OT Louisiana Tech
6 188 Cornelius Washington
DE Georgia
7 236 Marquess Wilson
WR

GRADE: C+
ANOTHER head scratcher with his 1st pick, but this one is a HOME RUN! Wilson FINALLY showed a few flashes in 2015. Washinbgton may be heading into his LAST camp. Bostic, Greene, and Mills didn’t work out.

2013 RE DRAFT

1- G- Kyle Long (Emery's greatest gift)
2- LB- Jamie Collins (Pro Bowler taken 2 picks after Bostic)
4- LB- Gerald Hodges
5- T- Jordan Mills
6- LB- Vince Williams
7- WR- Marquess Wilson

GRADE: B-

Not an amazing draft at all but Long is a homerun and Collins is solid.

2014 DRAFT (Emery’s last might be his best)

1 14 Kyle Fuller
CB Virginia Tech
2 51 Ego Ferguson
DT LSU
3 82 Will Sutton
DT Arizona State
4 117 Ka'Deem Carey
RB Arizona
4 131 Brock Vereen
SS Minnesota
6 183 David Fales
QB San Jose State
6 191 Pat O'Donnell
P Miami (Fla.)
7 246 Charles Leno
T

CURRENT GRADE: C

Fuller has been serviceable. That’s the best word I can use. Ego has shown flashes but still a BIG question mark. Sutton-see Fuller. Carey is another question mark. He’s shown he can run the ball. But questions about his receiving and blocking skills linger. Fales has been a summer hero. O’Donnell has been the most valuable pick. The same might be said about Leno if he nails down that LT job this summer.

2014 RE DRAFT

1- DB- K. FULLER 2- DT- DaQuan Jones
3- DT- Justin Ellis
4- RB- Alfred Blue (I'm still high on Carey's small body of work, but Blue has been the most productive)
4- DB- Bene Benwikere
6- QB- David Fales
6- P- Pat O'Donnell
7- T- Charles Leno

GRADE:: B

Probably too soon to judge a 2 year old draft, but a few of these guys are immediate contributors. But no studs.

2015 DRAFT (Pace’s 1st)

1- WR- Kevin White
2- DT- Eddie Goldman
3- C- Hroniss Grasu
4- RB- Jeremy Langford
5- S- Adrian Amos
6- T- Tayo Fabulijue

GRADE: C+

Goldman and Langford showed some nice flashes. Goldman especially could be a stud. Amos was a regular starter...hopefully that translates to a big jump in year 2. Grasu is still a question mark and White an even bigger one.

2015 RE DRAFT

1- WR- Tyler Lockett (toss up between him and Diggs, but I like Lockett's upside as a game breaking deep threat...and he's now the best return man in the league).
2- DT- Eddie Goldman
3- C- Shaq Mason
4- RB- JAY AJAYI (YIKES)
5- S- Adrian Amos
6- T- Austin Shepherd

GRADE: B

Premature, but Lockett, Goldman, Mason all look like solid players for the next 5 years or more. AJAYI is a BIG UPGRADE.

2016 Draft:

1-OLB-LEONARD FLOYD
2-G-CODY WHITEHAIR
3-DE- J. BULLARD
4-S-D. BUSH
4-ILB-N. KWIATKOSKI
4-CB-D.HALL
5-RB-J. HOWARD
6-S-D. HOUSTON-CARSON
7-WR-D.BRAVERMAN

GRADE: B-
So far early returns are decent. Howard was a HUGE STEAL. Floyd and Whitehair are bonafide starters even if CW can’t snap a football. Kwiatkoski and Bullard have ceilings they haven’t hit yet imo.

2016 REDRAFT:
1-OLB- L. FLOYD
2- G-C. WHITEHAIR
3-DE- MATT JUDON
4- S- WILL PARKS
4-ILB- N. KWIATKOSKI
4-CB-ANTHONY BROWN
5-RB-J. HOWARD
6-S- JALEN MILLS (OUCH)
7-WR-CHARONE PEAKE

GRADE: B+
Big Upgrades with Judon and Mills.

2017 DRAFT:

1-QB: M. TRUBISKY
2-TE: A. SHAHEEN
4-RB: WEE TARIK COHEN
4-S: E. JACKSON
5-G: J. MORGAN

GRADE: C

Middle of the road so far. TC and EJ made immediate impacts. Trubisky is still a question mark. Shaheen an even bigger one.

2017 RE-DRAFT:
1- QB-D. WATSON
2- TE: G. KITTLE
4-RB: COHEN
4-S: JACKSON
5-G-JERMAINE ELUEMENOR

GRADE: B
Watson and Kittle are HUGE upgrades.

2K Draft Misses:

QB: Rex Grossman 1-03
RB: Cedric Benson 1-05*
WR: David Terrell 1-01*
WR: Mark Bradley 2-05*
WR: Kevin White 1-15*

Was it as depressing compiling this list as it is to read some of these god-awful picks? A ton of guys I had forgotten about. I don't think it's any secret on this board as to why the Bears haven't been competitive for a while, but it's glaringly obvious when you look at draft history like this.

I wouldn't call Columbo a bust - he was starting (and servicable) his rookie year until he absolutely shredded his knee vs St. Louis.

I was watching that game and instantly thought his career was over.

I also thought Steltz was serviceable for a 4th round pick.

Also the Neckbeard just didn't want to play anymore - Feel bad for the guy as I though Orton was OK and just kept getting slapped with the wet fish.
