Bears expected to make major strikes early at multiple positions when free agency opens next week
By John Mullin March 09, 2018 9:05 AM

"Applying the transition tag to Kyle Fuller is only one part of the Bears’ efforts to (again) shore up a tipping-point position in their defense. The Bears are among teams expected to be in the mix for connection with Richard Sherman, likely to be released by the Seattle Seahawks before the start of free agency."

"The given is that the Bears will make a preemptive strike at wideout. The questions are how many (one or two?) and exactly for whom? [Albert] Wilson is considered to be bordering on a fait accompli. Wilson was a central figure in the offense that Nagy directed in Kansas City and was a likely Bears suspect even before Veach’s Combine comments."

"The Bears have been exploring a contract extension for Amos, who like Fuller delivered a breakout season in 2017."

"Information continues to bubble to the surface that the Bears are close on a multi-year extension for Goldman, who has emerged as one of the NFL’s best young defensive tackles."

The Athletic had a decent read today about what the Bears could do in FA. Essentially they feel like the Bears should sign a young tight end, a swing tackle, a starting LG, and keep Bellamy.

I don't even care if it's for special teams only, I don't want this dude on our roster anymore.

The Bellamy endorsement was exclusively for his special teams skills. One of the best gunners in the NFL.

I get that sentiment, but honestly he'd be more coveted if the WR group hadn't been obliterated by injuries the last couple years.

As long as Bellamy is like the 5th WR, fine. Acts like Brandon Marshall. Catches like Penny Marshall.

Richard Sherman is being released by the Seahawks. He's only 30. Any thoughts on taking a 1 or 2 year flyer on him? Recovering from achilles surgery.

Intriguing but he already was limited athletically, and I want to say it's his second achilles tear? Ouch.

Oh. I didn't know that was his second tear. Yeah...no thanks.

I'd rather have a rookie I think. At some point though you have to see if the guys you drafted - like Hall - can play.

I wish they gave him a direction instead of the Kyle Long treatment. Is he a corner? Is he a safety? I mean fuck, these dudes work on their craft so I'm sure they'd like an idea so they can attack it in the off-season.

IMO he's a corner. He's long and fast with good press/man coverage skills. His hips are a little tight, which is what I think is holding him back...but he's still learning the position. I think he was a WR when he started at NIU.

This is neither news nor a rumor, but according to some random betting website we have the second best odds to land Sherman....

True. I've seen a lot of sherm living in Seattle, he has trouble with crossing, comebacks and hitch routes, the NFC north wouldn't be kind to him. Plus, with his achilles, the natural grass (if you want to call it that) of soldier field wouldn't bode well on those tendons. He also said something to the fact he wants to go to a team with a great QB. With the Butler mess, I would guess he's been talking with the Pats already.

If Bellamy is re-signed, and ever plays on offense, he will hang onto the ball much better than before.

I wasn't aware that we re-signed Inman. I like that guy. Good natural hands catcher. Good routes.

I like the idea of Meradeth, Kevin White, Inman, Kendall Wright, Albert Wilson, and two rookie WRs.

Obviously, 7 WRs is too many to keep. Given that, I think one of Inman, Wright, Wilson or 2nd rookie would be the odd man out. Depending on who that 2nd rookie is, I might be inclined to choose Inman.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

I think Inman is a great choice for us. Keep in mind he joined mid year, and was hampered by learning a new ( Fox ) offense and having no real chance at working with Trubisky. Honestly Trubisky was probably more focused on learning his role more than trying to get great chemistry with a new WR. Chemistry is developed over a lot of repetition. For me personally...I am all in on Inman
