Meredith is a nice player, but he's not Julio Jones. And he's coming of a pretty devastating ACL/MCL injury. And he may or may not be ready for camp.
I'd like to keep the kid, but everyone is all over the moon for Robinson and Gabriel, so I'm not sure that it would matter.

It’s a comparison as to the team being willing to burn that amount of money on a player with limited potential to contribute in a large way vs the low tender that may or may not allow Meredith to leave.BR0D1E86 wrote:Sims won’t have anything to do with it. Nobody’s going to give him a contract that will exceed our cap space.southdakbearfan wrote:Idk, but if they lose him while burning 6 mill on sims that would piss me off.
Meredith is a question mark with his injury, but so is Allen Robinson.
Time will tell what move is right.

FWIW it's been rehabbing at Halas Hall and has said multiple times he expects to be a full-go for Training Camp.wab wrote:Meredith is a nice player, but he's not Julio Jones. And he's coming of a pretty devastating ACL/MCL injury. And he may or may not be ready for camp.

I've got an irrational love for Meredith so I want him to smash this season out of the park and then get PAID next year. That said, for the team, I'd have no problems offering him 3 years $12m with $6m guaranteed. Tell him he gets this year to show he's healthy, next year to break out and then a big extension.
"I wouldn't take him for a conditional 7th. His next contract will pay him more than he could possibly contribute.".

LOL. It didn’t stop the Bears from signing Robinson. Also...Nanky wrote:Would he pass a physical from another team?

@FieldYates
Restricted free agent market: the Colts hosted Bears WR Cam Meredith for a visit, per league source. The Bears have the right to match any offer or lose Meredith without any compensation.

I am tired of picking up other peoples scraps. He showed enough to be given a chance. Be bold, dont take an ultra conservative money ball approach. How has that worked for Cleveland?
What did you see before the injury? Was it enough to believe that more can be developed?
If so.....sign him

If given the choice between Meredith and Hurns, I’d take Hurns.
I’m interested to see what these two eventually sign for.
FWIW - I’m guessing Meredith wasn’t tendered so that they could ‘match any offer’, I think it’s more likely he was tendered so that he couldn’t just sign with another team on a cheap deal.

I don't think I am with you on this. Generally on premise I would agree if Hurns wasn't on the injury report every week. Plus Cam has shown improvement every year. It wasn't to long ago the battle was he and Bellamy. He has gotten better every year minus this injury.Hiphopopotamos wrote:If given the choice between Meredith and Hurns, I’d take Hurns.
Plus there is just something about the way he catches the ball, that gets my loins tingly.

Cam is such a solid route runner for a young man his size/height. I don't want to lose him, but truth be told we've got a lot of weapons at our disposal right now. If he gets a nice deal, it will suck but I'd let him go. We've got enough $$$ tied into Robinson, Burton and Gabriel.

Meredith went from being the #1 WR on this team to like the 4th or 5th receiving option behind Robinson, Gabriel, Burton, and maybe even Shaheen/Cohen.
I wouldn't blame him for leaving if he got a multi year deal.

Just because Pace grossly overpaid for Burton and Gabriel doesn’t make them starters. If we lose Meredith, we’ll be down to only 1 starting caliber WR in Robinson, which is the same situation we were in before free agency started.G08 wrote:Cam is such a solid route runner for a young man his size/height. I'm calling it now, the Bears let Meredith walk, choosing to try and make White work only to have Meredith go on to be successful for the next 8 years while White is out of the NFL in 2 and Gabriel and Robinson hope from team to team for the remainder of their careers.

No offer sheet from the Colts, but he has multiple visits lined up. I don't expect him to remain a Bear.

I'm not so sure. I'd have to think these teams want to check out his knee and use him as a contingency plan. If someone wants to offer him 7 to 8 million a season, though? Sianora.wab wrote:No offer sheet from the Colts, but he has multiple visits lined up. I don't expect him to remain a Bear.

I don't understand what happened to him. He went from a featured WR in Philly to an afterthought in Buffalo.G08 wrote:Jordan Matthews is still farting around out there as well.

I don't think he'll get that...but there are still an awful lot of teams out there that need a WR. He a poor mans Robinson, and the Bears already have the actual Robinson so I see no need, aside from sentimental reasons, to hang onto him. There's only one ball and Robinson, Gabriel, Burton, Cohen, and maybe Shaheen are going to get the bulk of the passes. They are also so very desperate to salvage White that letting Cam go seems like a real option.G08 wrote:I'm not so sure. I think he's a really good receiver and I'm a little sour on the Bears for apparently having so little faith in him that they knocked him down to the fringe of the roster.
