Sims is a shit receiver and a shit blocker, doesn’t matter what offense he fits.Hiphopopotamos wrote:Dion Sims is much more valuable in a Matt Nagy/Mark Helfrich offense than he was in a Loggains coordinated offense.
TE is much too important a position in this offense to allow yourself to be wholly dependent on a Division II kid still making the transition. If Shaheen proves that he was worth a 2nd, then the Bears have themselves a damn good backup and ‘package’ TE in Sims. If Shaheen still isn’t ready - then we still have Sims here to play that very important role in this offense.
As for the price tag on Sims - what is the opportunity cost? What are we missing out on by keeping Sims and is it more valuable than an in-line TE and red-zone threat in this offense? That’s the question Pace has to ask/answer.
Dion Sims will be back

Yes it would. Never get the value out of him right now.wab wrote:Would it surprise anyone if Shaheen is shopped?

All of the above. Creative thought? Definitely. One that didn't occur to me.MoFugger wrote:Surprised, yes.wab wrote:Would it surprise anyone if Shaheen is shopped?
Shocked, no.
Irritated, without a doubt.

Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

That would have the potential to bite us in the ass. I don't want to say Greg Olson 2.0, but the potential is there.wab wrote:Would it surprise anyone if Shaheen is shopped?
If the Bears do that, no it wouldn't surprise me, because they're the Bears.

If Pace is still holding onto Kevin White and Hroniss Grasu three years in, I see no reason to suspect he's shopping Adam Shaheen one year in.wab wrote:Would it surprise anyone if Shaheen is shopped?

Obviously cutting Sims would have made sense. I am assuming Pace decided not to because:
1. In short yardage situations Burton will be on the wing or at FB so they still need two in-line TE's.
2. While Pace certainly believes in Shaheen he still finished the year hurt with limited experience, and Pace saw what happened with injuries at WR and TE last season. He's protecting him against Burton or Shaheen getting hurt.
3. Pace still believes there is a small chance he can trade him later on, especially if someone loses their TE to injury in camp.

yeah, we're still taking a pretty decent risk obviously with white/meredith/robinson all coming back from injuries, and pace is trying to hedge is bets as much as possible.sturf wrote:Obviously cutting Sims would have made sense. I am assuming Pace decided not to because:

I wasn't suggesting that he should be shopped...

I was surprised by this - I just hope he's better than he was last year (talk about a low bar to clear).
