Wootten and Williams could be in trouble depending on what happens in the draft.

Bears angle aside ... how cool is it that McCown was coaching HS ball and probably making $40K before the Bears called him up. Now... yeah, he's making the better part of a $Mill even though they really really don't want him to play.

I don't know why I thought the McCown signing was more of a signal about Enderle. It could be either guy waived after training camp...
If there isn't trade market for Williams I think we should keep him around as a swing backup. That's not a bad number. Maybe we sign Herrera and plan to start him. Louis and Chris Williams on our 45 with Edwin on the 53.
Starting:
Webb Herrera Garza Spencer Carimi

Not bad, but personally I think Lewis would be better then Herrera at left guard and, even at my surprise, Williams was playing quite well there when he got hurt.
I'm not against adding Herrera.....I don't want to have some many vets that they ignore the positions in the draft. Not first or even second round...but we have painted ourselves in a poor position by not drafting enough (quality) lineman in the past.

I doubt the Bears are going to add an offensive lineman via FA. Emery said recently that he really likes who they already have there. I'm guessing Herrera COULD end up here on the veterans minimum, but obviously that hinges on a lot of other teams not ponying up even the slightest amount of dough.

But is Mike Tice happy with the oline? I feel like every report you read over the past two years points toward his desire for some more violence on his line and CWilliams is a finesse guy. We like him at LG pulling because he has good feet but I don't think Tice likes him in a phone booth. I assume Tice has some personnel influence at OC and to me that spells trouble for Chris. I'm fine with him staying but I'm not sure it'll happen.
What DOES Emery think we need now? Now that we lost Mincey I don't even feel like there's anyone in the mix. They worked out guys mid-week last week and no new contracts. I'm not up on the "bears show interest in player x" rumors anymore.

The beauty of this offense is, I hope, that Mike Tice won't put his men in a position where he doesn't think they will succeed. Much less 7's I'm sure.

Aren't we at about the point in the offseason when Briggs starts making a stink about his contract?

There will be another wave. 240 + players will be selected in a month and every year 30 - 40 quality vets find themselves on the streets post draft.

I hope/expect that the Bears are waiting for the second wave of FA - the so called 'value FA's' to pick up one more veteran WR.
Holy Shit - We got Justin Fields!

Heard Santana Moss's name thrown out there yesterday...
Wouldn't be a bad pickup.

He's a true z that has been bounced around in DC cuz that team had terrible receivers. I would be good with it.

With Santana Moss, the Bears could go all defense and OLine in the draft. And if Forte was traded, really load up including another wideout (unless they're sure Johnny is coming back). That would be really something, wouldn't it? ...

I added Mannelly as well as the remaining roster players who are on the last year of their contract, along with the new cornerbacks.Xee wrote:Under "Contracts to Watch" you might want to add Mannelly. This year will be the final one in his contract.
I couldn't find anything on Wilhite, so if something pops up on the contract terms, lemme know.

Now that we've started signing rookies should this be updated? I don't remember how/if those contracts are treated differently.

I realized several months into my college career, that things could be printed on campus from my computer in the frat house. Printer was down... needed something ASAP... someone filled me in. So I go to the library to retrieve it and find that not only do I have my own little mailbox/slot, but it's full (a stack bigger than yours) of softcore gay porn and pictures of an ass that was not mine, was not pleasant, but I sadly recognized. Moral? Guard your password well.
Sorry for the tangent.

School of course. Will be graduating in a week and figured I'd get my money's worth before I leave. It's going to be strange though; besides for having a part-time job, I've pretty much been in college since '99 and don't really know anything else. Reminds me of the line from Shawshank Redemption, "These walls are funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them." But now having a masters, and hopefully my CPA, there's no more excuse to stay. Time to move on.gaba wrote:You like buying ink cartridges, or is this a work/school print job?
Anywayyyyyyy, bringing this back on topic, I skimmed through some of the agreement . . . pretty interesting stuff. You know how after players are drafted you usually see photos/videos of them at community events working with kids and what not? They actually get paid $5,000 a pop for that. And here I thought they were just being made to do it.
