Hold up. I think you have a mixed idea of how the Fox/Broncos relationship ended.
Not at all. Elway stated that he did not like the way Fox's teams finished the last two seasons. Said they lacked fire in those games. Very few teams fire a coach with a winning record (see Bears) so in the Broncos case the work around statement was agreed to mutually part ways.
I'm not saying he will be a bad coach but I am saying the last time we got something the Broncos did not want it cost this team dearly and still is.
So, what's your suggestion? Should we never deal with Denver again? Seattle did a pretty big number on us in the Mirer trade...you are going to run out of trade partners with your philosophy.
And how exactly is Cutler "costing this team dearly?" By being the highest rated QB in franchise history? We have won a lot of games as a franchise with a LOT worse play from the QB position, so maybe it's not just a Jay problem? We get it...you don't like him. I wish he would turn the ball over much less myself. But, can you be at least a little objective? Maybe us giving up 30 pts a game has a little bit to do with recent struggles, as well, no?
This is like when Cutler was acquired. Jay, without ever having thrown a pass, was already the greatest QB in franchise history. He will retire as such.
We don't KNOW what it's like to have an actual NFL coach because we've been so used to bums for so long. Halas, Ditka, and maybe 2 years of Lovie. That's 2.5 coaches in a nearly century-old franchise.
My advice: Don't research too deeply into the negative parts of the Bears history, it will make you sad. Future is bright though.
So in the earlier part of this thread, which has meandered like a stream, several mentioned who we thought the OC and DC would be. We have lost the consensus OC of Kyle Shanny to Atlanta. So, who do ya'll think Pace/Fox target next?
And for DC, the man I wanted is in contention for the job. Vic Fangio knows how to beat Capers/McCarthy/Rodgers, as well as being the best DC available. Points for him picking the Skins: $$$ Dan Snyder can outbid us if he wants to for Vic. Points for him picking the BEARS: Better head coach to work under, more job security with Fox than Gruden, more talent on the O-side of the ball here to keep games from being square on the D.
I hope like hell Vic chooses the BEARS. Whom do ya'll crave for DC and OC?
Chances are that Fangio is going to the Skins, and Allen just signed on with the Saints. I have said this in other threads as well; One of Fox's strong points is talent evaluation. Most of his prior coordinators were not coordinators when they went to work for Fox. Which means that he has a knack for picking the right man for the job. I am guessing that his two coordinators aren't on anyone else's radar yet. Given his track record, I am just going to sit back and trust that Foxy knows what he's doing.

I think the ability of Fox to pick great coordinators may be his biggest asset.
I am torn on whether or not Fox was the right choice. Obviously, he was the most accomplished HC available, and his proven ability to turn around teams quickly as well as his ability to pick great coordinators are all things that are in the plus column.
I don't have much doubt that Fox will get us into the post season fairly quickly. But I do think he also has some negatives (or at least some question marks), but who doesn't?

So the bitch that is Hub who was against Fox being appointed throughout the whole process has today changed his mind and released an article saying why John Fox is right for the bears....wish he would stick to an opinion
Guess I am used to uk journalists. They maybe dicks at times like piers Morgan but they have their beliefs and opinions and they stick to them right or wrong.
Anyone could make a living releasing two sides of the same story so they are covered.

yeah well, not so much in the good ol' USA ... just look at idiot Mel Kiper, and his release of 16 different of his "special insider" mock drafts just so he can have as many things possible covered so he can say he was right ... and he actually makes a living doing this ... legalized con man who talks as if he has personally watched every player on the NFL draft board since they were in high school

I love when one of Kiper's "best available" stays there for 6-8 hours. He continues to stump for the guy to be taken, rather than just admitting he was wrong.

Yep it was all John Fox too. His last 4 seasons, 3 with Peyton Manning, are definitely DEFINITELY more indicative of how things are going to go with our team, and not the 9 seasons prior.

Aw fuck it, I wanted to be wrong.
I was not around this forum for the Fox hire, but I was again it at the time. I was hoping for the best when they did hire him. What I was afraid of with him was another decade of Lovie Smith/Jeff Fisher mediocrity. That said I think we are better off with a shit show now, so we are not stuck with him long term.
"We don’t know exactly what we’re doing” -- John Fox
Watching this team has become a chore, it is so depressing to see this team flounder from week to week. We are a failure in all phases.
The Bears' struggle is not ALL on Fox obviously, I mean with the horrible kicking, shitty play calling by the refs, the endless penalties, and an epidemic of injured players he can only do so much with what he has left with a bunch of spare Bears scrubs BUT, clearly the man has to go. I just can't stomach watching the rest of the season.
There is probably little point or benefit in cutting him loose now if Pace and Co. doesn't think Loggains or Fangio is willing to step in and lead to better play for the remainder of the season but man, I want to see this coach gone within hours after the last game and some new plans in place for the future.
