Even after signing Prince Amukamara, the #Bears still remain focused on CB's. Had Marcus Cooper in for a visit last PM. Darius Butler today
Update: Bears sign CB Marcus Cooper

Darius Butler is allegedly marketing himself as a free agent Safety now. So he and Cooper coming in tandem could be a possibility. Personally I'd really like to have Cooper here in Chicago.
Also, HIIIII guys! I'm new to board here. Was hoping to find a relatively active Chicago Bears forum and looks like I ay have found a place.

I like Cooper. Bit of a late bloomer. I don't know about Butler though...don't see a need for another 30yr old safety.

Sounds like Pace hedging his bets again, like we did signing Ball and Porter in the same year.

Not really sure why Pace wouldn't go after a younger, ascending safety like TJ McDonald.
Two 30+ safeties? He's kinda going against his own philosophy.

It's getting to be a crowded room...even more so if they add one more in the draft.

Leads me to believe (assuming the draft a guy) Porter/Fuller are gone and Cooper/Banks are competing for the same spot.

I think Pace speaks out both sides of his mouth. I don't take into account anything he says. He speaks like a politician. That can be good, but just don't hang on his words.Ditka4Prez08 wrote:Not really sure why Pace wouldn't go after a younger, ascending safety like TJ McDonald.

Great signing! Love it! 3 new starters in the defensive backfield make for a very good FA haul! (If only we had scooped up Calais Campbell too)

Last year we started the season with 13 DBs on the 53, and we currently have 17 on the roster. Meanwhile we have 5 OLBs (we need 6) and 7 DLs on the roster (we need 6). Lots more changes coming...

Welcome Cubby!! This is a great forum. Great sense of humor. A LOT of Bears knowlege. Non-threatening.CubbyBear2290 wrote:Darius Butler is allegedly marketing himself as a free agent Safety now. He was better last year but he had trouble when he was in KC.Dornado wrote:Seems like he has good size... but didn't this guy get torched repeatedly last year?

He did get torched last year a few times. With Patrick Peterson on the other side I'm sure he was targeted a lot. Good depth signing at worst.

Amukamara and Cooper are your #1 and #2 based on the contracts and guarantees. I think they probably take a corner in the fist 4 rounds as a hedge to Amukamara. But I don't expect to see Fuller or Porter on the roster come September.

Porter can see being let go. Maybe Fuller to safety possibly? He played hybrid in college

I wish they'd give Fuller a real chance but he's probably going to be heavily shopped in the coming months.

I would be shocked if Fuller sees the field as a Bear this year.wab wrote:I wish they'd give Fuller a real chance but he's probably going to be heavily shopped in the coming months.

Yeah something weird was going on with him last year. It shouldn't take over 4 months to come back from a knee scope. Fangio publicly called him out, which can't be a good sign either. I would guess Pace is trying to get something for him, but he probably won't cut him until after the draft.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote:I would be shocked if Fuller sees the field as a Bear this year.wab wrote:I wish they'd give Fuller a real chance but he's probably going to be heavily shopped in the coming months.

I recall Fangio speaking out on Fuller a number of times. I just think Fuller is done here. I personally like the kid and thought he showed a lot of promise his rookie year.Bulldog Turner wrote:Yeah something weird was going on with him last year. I also echo the motion he should get some reps at safety. I really think he could shine there.

He absolutely should have been playing at free safety last year but he's definitely gone. The Fox/Pace doghouse has an event horizon!

Cooper was drafted by the Niners when those guys were there.

Is it sad that I really like this signing more for being able to use "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" more than the potential the guy has at being a great CB in this system?
