Coming from the Reid tree...versatile RB's are the preferred weapon at RB. A back that can run and catch.
Howard has struggled catching the ball.
Plus Howard's lack of speed will not be ideal to Nagy.
I'm not saying Howard is on his way out or anything. I love the guy.
But I can DEFINITELY see Nagy bringing in HIS RB either though FA or the draft...with dipstick Pace's stamp of approval of course.
Howard still serves a big purpose. But i think you can count on a committee coming.
Which is something no sane person should have a problem with right? I mean every year id be looking for the next Kareem Hun or Kamara.
Obviously Cohen will have a role, but I see Nagy using him more as the Tyreek Hill of the offense.
Could the Nagy hire spell trouble for Jordan Howard?

What it means is we hired a guy who actually knows how to use Tarik Cohen.
Holy Shit - We got Justin Fields!

How would hiring a guy that comes from a RB friendly system be bad for Howard?

Don't see any problem for Howard..especially with a functioning aggresive QB and play calls..
Nagy apparently has three calls per play for the QB to choose and change at the line..
So Trub will get the ropes OFF..

Howard, I would like to see trim some fat and get leaner. I don't think he's that much different from Kareem Hunt (save for Howard having hands like tits) if you look at their athletic numbers.

Trubisky had a better 40 than Watson.
But anybody with sight knows that Watson was like a Ferrari and Trubisky a LeBaron when it came to football speed.

I mean, Howard ran a slightly faster 40 before their respective drafts. But Howard was probably running downhill.

Pretty sure it was on the same track and Howard did it with +20 lbs on his frame.
Curious to see if he's asked to cut weight a bit.

Howard didn't run in Indy. The numbers I posted were from their respective pro days. Still, Howard's best 40 time was better than Hunt's best 40 time.G08 wrote:Pretty sure it was on the same track and Howard did it with +20 lbs on his frame.

Ideally Howard gets down to the 218-ish that he started out at when he was at UAB.

Ah, good to know! I'd prefer to see him around 220 as long as he didn't lose any of his strength.wab wrote:Howard didn't run in Indy. The numbers I posted were from their respective pro days. Most sites have him listed at 6'1 224. I never understood the 6'1 thing, considering he measured 6'0 at the combine, 5'11 and change at his pro day, but is listed at 6'1 everywhere.G08 wrote:Ah, good to know! But whatever, you know I have a tendency to get too caught up in that (see: Leno, Charles).

Hunt and Howard have very similar scouting reports too.
Hunt: http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/kar ... id=2557917" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Howard: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/ ... id=2555418" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not sure why some people are pretending that Hunt is some undersized speed back.

We have two backs who sort of combine to make-up for Howard's struggles in the passing game. Which I didn't seem to remember him having as much of in 2016, BTW.BabyBear wrote:Coming from the Reid tree...versatile RB's are the preferred weapon at RB. A back that can run and catch.

Howard/Cohen somewhat combine to create one very complete back, which seems to be quite the rage nowadays.
Howard is also a very hard-working guy, and dealt with a separated AC joint since the first week of the season. I think a big focus of his will be working to improve on catching the ball.
I think its more to do with the annoying brashness of most of your "observations". Instead of talking down to people, try a different approach.BabyBear wrote:Wow.wab wrote:He said "athletic numbers". Pretending that this is actually a thread discussing what the nature of the Bears' new offense might be, particularly with respect to backs...
I understand that Nagy took over playcalling for the last five games of the regular season.
In the first 11 games, the Chiefs used their FB on 15% of offensive downs. In the next 4 games they only used him 8%. As that is far less than any earlier 4-game stretch I think it is Nagy's style rather than their opponents' defenses or game situations. But in their last game, the only game Mahomes started, the FB was used 52%.

Trubisky
41 carries 248 yards 2 TD's
Watson
36 carries 269 yards 2 TD's
Nearly identical in yardage and perfectly identical in TD's with only 5 carries separating them.
I also like that Trubisky is not as reliant on running as Watson, as we all saw how that ended. Trubisky runs when he has to, which is what you want from a QB in the NFL. IMO
