Ian Rapoport
@RapSheet
In 1 minute, free agents can talk to other suitors, and that includes #Rams WR Sammy Watkins. They wanted to sign him before the window opens, but that was never realistic. He’ll have a hot market.

The Chiefs are interested in Watkins, which should be another bright light flashing on what a perfect fit he is in this offense.

Packers gonna sniff around him as well. Rodgers as a selling point, could spell problems for others.

Just got outta the gym!
Brad Biggs
Multiple sources say the Bears have identified the Rams’ Sammy Watkins as their top target at arguably their greatest position of need — wide receiver. Watkins, the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft by the Bills, has averaged 15.9 yards per catch in his career. For the sake of comparison, that’s more than a yard better than former Bear Alshon Jeffery.
HOT DAMN!!!

Robinson has been my guy all offseason and continues to be my fav. But logically with Meredith likely to not be 100% and Robinson very possibly the same, going after Watkins instead, who should be healthy out of the gate does make logical sense.
But that feels like short term thinking to me in a long term rebuilding plan.

Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Finally watched the replay of Robinson's ACL injury. Pretty weird, not really contact, no side twisting injury.
I would be fine with him over Watkins as the damage was most likely limited to the ACL and his injury history is a lot less than Watkins who has numerous foot/ankle problems.
Foot/ankle issues with multiple surgeries kind of scares me more than ACL looking at the two.

Per Rappaport. 16/year over 3 years.
Often times it is just ready to give. Remember when Jamal Charles tore his ACL against us in 2015? He didn't do anything other than plant to make a cut with no one around him and you just saw the knee come undone.southdakbearfan wrote:Finally watched the replay of Robinson's ACL injury. I played college baseball and had probably played 100+ games per season since I was 13-14 years old between spring, summer travel and fall ball. Leading up to what was supposed to be my final college season, I was fucking around with a buddy. He shoved me, I shoved him back... When I extended I felt my shoulder pop. An MRI later -- It was revealed I had a complete tear of my labrum.
So -- sometimes that stuff happens because of one really gruesome incident. Other times, it's an inevitability and a ticking time bomb. You don't even know it.

Final terms of the #Chiefs expected deal for WR Sammy Watkins: 3 years, $48M with $30M fully guaranteed at signing, sources say.

That's pretty steep for a guy with his injury history.wab wrote:Final terms of the #Chiefs expected deal for WR Sammy Watkins: 3 years, $48M with $30M fully guaranteed at signing, sources say.

Ouch, that's a horrible deal! Why 3 years? If you're going top end, tag on as many years as possible without guaranteed income, just in the hope that they succeed and the market overtakes them.
"I wouldn't take him for a conditional 7th. His next contract will pay him more than he could possibly contribute.".

I think they were battling us for his services and Pace tapped out around 15 million or so.malk wrote:Ouch, that's a horrible deal! Why 3 years? If you're going top end, tag on as many years as possible without guaranteed income, just in the hope that they succeed and the market overtakes them.

i'm wondering, watkins and robinson both are 24 and took 3 year deals. they could have maybe demanded 3 year deals, since at 27 they look alittle more attractive for one more giant payday.
27 years old is "the prime of a player's career."
28 years old is "almost 30, when wr's start to drop off."

Yup, but the teams still have to have some leverage, right? Well, except they clearly don't!G08 wrote:I would absolutely think so.RustyTrubisky wrote:i'm wondering, watkins and robinson both are 24 and took 3 year deals. they could have maybe demanded 3 year deals, since at 27 they look alittle more attractive for one more giant payday.
I find it incredible that not only has he got the average per year he was after but the short deal too.
G08 did a good job selling him but even if all that comes true, is he a top 3 wideout?

I don't think he's a top 3 wideout, no. Put him in the right offense though and I think he's top 10 easily.malk wrote:Yup, but the teams still have to have some leverage, right? KC way overpaid for him, but those two dudes on the outside with Mahomes chucking the rock? KC might be my 2nd favorite team next season!

This bums me out a little bit. I know we signed Robinson, but admittedly I was hoping for a longshot chance of having a dual threat.
