Lions’ Patricia indicted, not tried in ’96 sex assault
Lions’ Patricia says he was ‘falsely accused’ of sexual assault in 1996
Matt Patricia emphatic in defense against 1996 sexual assault charge
case was dismissed in 1997 at the request of the accuser and never went to trial
doesn't seem to be the accuser who is now bringing this to light so am curious as to what brought this back up

It is what sells in the media because too many lemmings love pointless drivel. Everyone wants to be famous because they think that will make them rich (ala the Kardashian whores, which include Kaitlyn). So the media only covers people's dirt so they can keep selling ads. It sucks, but this is what we have become.

unless there is some new secret news that caused this to be an issue, I don't understand this "news" release
the legal process ran its course and the case was dismissed/closed in 1997 ... 21 years ago the case was resolved ... so it is current news now, why?

According to court documents obtained by the Detroit Free Press, the witness list included a nurse, doctor, police detective, police officer and college friend of the alleged victim. Accounts from the five helped lead to an indictment by a grand jury of Patricia and college friend Greg Dietrich on charges of aggravated sexual assault, but the charges were ultimately dismissed 10 months after the incident when the victim decided she couldn’t take the stress.
In The Detroit News’ story that brought the charges to light, Patricia and Dietrich were accused by a 21-year-old college student of bursting into her hotel room and taking turns sexually assaulting her during spring break in 1996 at South Padre Island, Texas.
after all the stories that have come out recently about sexual assault victims being pressured into keeping quiet, yes it is fucking gross to me that we've got a thread where people are tripping over themselves to declare this story a nothingburger.

Saenz was in charge of the DA’s office when Patricia and his friend were indicted in 1996 by a grand jury on aggravated sexual assault charges in Cameron County, Texas. The charges were dismissed five months later.
Saenz said that he doesn’t remember the case, but stressed that it wasn’t dismissed on the merits — only because the accuser chose not to testify. Asked whether the DA’s office had a strong case or not, Saenz said:
“We don’t like to lose cases, so we’re not going to go to a grand jury and ask for a case that we know we’re going to lose,” Saenz said, adding, “Every spring break, we unfortunately end up with about two to four sexual assault cases. Half end the same way. The victims do not want to go back and go through a trial or re-live what may have been a traumatic experience.”

There is no hope of ever knowing actually what happened, case was dropped, case files were destroyed and the prosecutor can't even remember the case itself. Was it a drunken spring break three way with later regrets or sexual assault?
The prosecutor can't remember it, the woman didn't want to testify, the defending attorney claims she recanted her story, who's telling the truth?
I know in today's day and age we all know more about how hard it is for victims to come forward. I just fear the media is using that just to get clicks and sell papers by pulling at the hearts and minds of the public.
The other concerning part is that it wasn't the victim coming forward now years later, gaining the courage to do what she couldn't before. No she is nowhere to be found to date. It's just the media finding a dismissed indictment. If it was her coming forward now with all the changes the past few years and the metoo movement I would probably lend a little more weight to it.

Thanks for doing the research Rusty. I basically regret opening this thread because I know the NFL will do nothing and so many people will be happy to dismiss it as some gold digger situation.

how is this a gold digger situation? it wasn't the woman involved back in 1996 that even brought this up ... it was some media knob ... and the woman from the 1996 incident has refused to comment to the media knob about any of it
and what exactly is it you think the NFL is supposed to do? case was dismissed in 1997 and there is nothing in any files for them to investigate
