QB Prospect Discussion: Mitchy Mitchy Mitchyy Trubisky, UNC

Man he's mobile when things break down.
If the Bears go QB early, this is the guy I want. Not to mention the last time a Chicago team took a kid from North Carolina third overall, it worked out pretty well.

That drive was awesome... elusiveness in the pocket, quickness/speed on the keeper, and a freaking dart to Switzer for the TD.
I'm falling in love again...

Oh my God... I literally was thinking the same thing about the last time Chicago had the #3 pick in the draft... I didn't even put the UNC connection together! If the Bears go QB early, this is the guy I want. Biggest question will be can he sit on bench and learn for a season? He has the physical skills can he learn the mental part of the game?

I'm sure he could, he'll be a fine player... but God Damnit I want a home run at #4.bearsfaninaz wrote:Biggest question will be can he sit on bench and learn for a season? He has the physical skills can he learn the mental part of the game?

But if he does, and we don't go QB in the first, we'd be in great position to snag him in the 2nd.wab wrote:I really don't think Rudolph will make it to the 2nd.

Wouldn't mind coming out of this draft with either Trubisky or Mahomes. I am a little bit weary of the Texas Tech system and how it hasn't fared too well for their QB's in the pros. But he's an exciting young QB that will make the Bears worth watching.

I guess I'm not seeing whatever it is in Mahones that everyone else is. I see an undisciplined player that wings it all over the field with shitty mechanics.

For me it's the arm strength and athleticism. He's got a rocket for an arm but still has the ability to throw with touch 40-50 yards downfield.wab wrote:I guess I'm not seeing whatever it is in Mahones that everyone else is. His mechanics are shit and need to be cleaned up, but you can do that much easier than you can find someone with his arm and overall athleticism.

It's almost like controlled chaos when I watch him. I think he can be coached out of some those habits though.wab wrote:I guess I'm not seeing whatever it is in Mahones that everyone else is. I see an undisciplined player that wings it all over the field with shitty mechanics.

No, Boller was just terrible.wab wrote:Sooooo. He's Kyle Boller?
Colin Kaepernick with better touch on his throws is how I'd describe him I guess.

He reminds me of Brady Quinn. In a not very good way. No progression. Thick chest, limiting as a passer.

The Boller comparison is a bit off, that guy only had one season where he had a +50% completion rate, he just had a cannon. Still not sure what NFL execs saw in his game that made them think he would be effective in the NFL... hurting so bad for QBs that a guy who can throw it 60 yards from his knees gets a first round rating... his freshman year he had sub 40% completion percentage....wab wrote:I still don't know man. Trubisky reminds me a little of Trent Green.

Interesting article that claims he will only be an average NFL QB.

I just watched three games on draftbreakdown and I really don't see why/how he's in the conversation for #3. He has nice touch on his passes but no power, and the decision making is suspect. Or rather... it's the decision making I'd expect from a high level QB playing his first season as a starter. He doesn't slide around well in the pocket and tended to get his olinemen in trouble when he avoided pressure by stepping into the path of a blocked player. His mechanics and size seem good? That's about all I liked.
