Allen has pre draft visit lined up with Bears. Yay arthritis!

Drafting Allen at 3 would make 3 for 3 questionable 1st round draft choices by Pace.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

There is no way he is taking Allen at 3, if he's looking at Allen he is targeting him later, most believe Allen will fall to around 12-17 due to the shoulder concerns... I'm hoping he talks the Browns into dealing a couple picks to get back to 3 to get Trubisky, as the smokey rumor is he loves Trubisky but it almost makes too much sense for them to go after the hometown kid and make him the face of their franchise...Atkins&Rebel wrote:Drafting Allen at 3 would make 3 for 3 questionable 1st round draft choices by Pace.

I thought "no way in Hell" in regards to a 1 trick, unpolished speed WR in the top 10, but look at the legacy of Kevin Freaken White!BamaBear09 wrote:There is no way he is taking Allen at 3, if he's looking at Allen he is targeting him later, most believe Allen will fall to around 12-17 due to the shoulder concerns... Yeah but White was the universally believed to be a top 10 pick going into that draft, not saying I liked the pick, cause I wished that Al Davis has still been alive cause if so White would be a Raider and Amari Cooper would be a Bear, but this is a bit different... Allen is viewed as a middle first player now, due to injury concerns.Atkins&Rebel wrote:I thought "no way in Hell" in regards to a 1 trick, unpolished speed WR in the top 10, but look at the legacy of Kevin Freaken White!BamaBear09 wrote:There is no way he is taking Allen at 3, if he's looking at Allen he is targeting him later, most believe Allen will fall to around 12-17 due to the shoulder concerns... Team will have to make up their minds on the arthritis but everything I've read suggests it's not likely to have any effect on him in terms of performance. It's something that happens to a lot of players. He might have to deal with pain and soreness. Allen didn't show well at the combine but the guys an animal on the field. I think he would be a perfect fit in Fangio's defense and a leader who makes everyone behind him better.
McDowell scares me. It doesn't seem like he's widely considered an elite prospect, but a book or bust player with elite upside.

I like Solomon Thomas better than Allen overall, but I think I like Allen's fit in this defense better than Thomas'.
That being said, I'd prefer them to do everything they can to trade down into the 6-12 range.

Hopefully the Niners take Allen at 2. I don't want any part of him at 3. I just don't think he's going to be an elite player at the NFL level. He'll be serviceable but not top 3 production. Honestly, I think the DE in a 3-4 scheme is one of the least valuable positions. I wouldn't spend a top 5 pick on one, JMHO.

SF is more likely to draft Solomon Thomas.DaSuperfan wrote:Hopefully the Niners take Allen at 2. I don't want any part of him at 3. Maybe all the stars will align and the Browns/Niners will take a QB 1-2. #prayformyles

I don't get the lattimore logic. There are plenty of Pace guys in the DB room right now. He would be drafting a guy just to cut another of his own guys who has barely played

Well look at that CB group. The first group is whom I think the Bears have the most invested and logically could/should make make the team. Clearly no one has set themselves really apart, and half of their contracts are up in a year. I personally think one draft pick needs to be added.
Amukamara, Prince 1 Year
Callahan, Bryce 1 Year
Fuller, Kyle 1 Year W-option
Porter, Tracy 2 Years
Cooper, Marcus 3 Years
Hall, Deiondre' 3 Years
This second group is mainly cast offs. There is some physically attributes there but the Bears shouldn't plan on any of these guys.
Banks, Johnthan 1 Year
Bausby, De'Vante 1 Year W/RFA option
Glenn, Jacoby 1 Year W/RFA option
Reynolds, Rashaad 1 Year W/RFA option
McManis, Sherrick 1 Year
LeBlanc, Cre'Von 2 Years
Let's face it this, isn't an all-star group.

The CB/WR situation reminds me of the ILB situation last year. Address it in FA with two vets then take a flyer on a guy later in the draft.
Cooper was a pro bowl alternate...he and Amukamara are your day 1 starters based on contracts alone. Fuller will be traded or cut as the Emery purge continues. Porter might play more FS than corner...assuming he makes the roster. LeBlanc is a hedge against Callahan staying healthy. Hall is your developmental/depth guy. McManis is your special teams ace.
I could see it being:
Amukamara
Cooper
Callahan
LeBlanc
Hall
McManis
Doesn't leave much room for a rookie. UNLESS...they want to take Sidney Jones in the 5th and stash him on IR for the year.

That would be a nice play... that kid has some great upside, if he can recover fully from the injury...wab wrote:

I know everyone is worried about Allen's health long term but I still like him 2nd best of dlinemen (behind Garrett). If he only plays one contract before his shoulders start to give him trouble, so be it. I'm confident he'll go to at least one pro bowl in those four years and he fills a need.

I don't know many people with arthritis prior to the age of 40-50, so for him to have it be an issue at 21 is hard for me to comprehend.

There are things they can do now for youths whom develop it. I listened to a sports doctor talk about it and forgot the majority of the info. I think cold therapy, turmeric, fats, fixing imbalances for blood flow, etc. Hell Urlacher had it in his hips and it didn't slow him down.

Hate to repeat myself, but almost all linemen have arthritis or a pre-arthritic condition.
Allen benched at the combine. He's got the most effective hands of any interior lineman in this draft. The only question is whether the stuff they found indicates or allows the strong possibility of a pathology that'll hurt him during his professional career. And I haven't heard anything like that.

So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

Random question:
If you could draft Justin Smith at #3 and get his SF career production under Vic Fangio, would you do it?
