"Weird" doesn't begin to describe it.

Yeah, normally I may not agree with a pick, or trade, but I under stand it. This year is total confusion. Pace has a lot of depth to fill in.wab wrote:Was a weird one for sure. Weirdest I think I can ever remember.

The more I look this shit over the more I realize, its possible in 4 years only 2 of these guys might still be in the league. All of then need time. Most will be broken in 2 years. This is hot garbage.

Even the best teams should have 2-3 players from the draft that contribute if not start in year one. For teams that were 3-13 the previous year it is a must. The Bears needs are so many and so great and this draft did virtually nothing to change that.46Blitz wrote:This Draft and off-season makes me think....
The build through post draft cuts will be in full effect. Granted there will be quite a few good deals of solid vets, but this team did not gain a single player in this draft that is ready to start or close to it.

I was thinking about that last night... I think he might be a goner.wab wrote:Miller had been worried about being brought back since like mid February.Moriarty wrote:Yeah, they got nobody at LB. (Plus, they can't release him until he clears medical or they offer a fat injury settlement, anyway.)
Zach Miller, on the other hand, will have to hold his breath after he clears his to see if they still want him or not.
Regrading the draft... after all our moves, it basically cost us a very low 2nd rounder to move up and get Trubisky. I've liked the kid for a while now, he has the traits I love in a QB (think Rodgers, Carr). I hope he doesn't see the field until 2018. Kid needs to work on a lot -- learning the playbook, verbiage, getting in and out of the huddle, footwork, NFL defenses, etc.
I like Shaheen more than most, I think the Baby Gronk comparisons are a bit lofty, but for his size he runs routes and gets in and out of breaks awfully well. Might be a year away before he really can do anything.
Like the Jackson kid at safety, kid is more of a free IMO, hopefully he'll get tougher in run support.
Cohen should be a nice change of pace back, definitely see a role for him on 3rd downs (don't love Howard's hands).

I like Jackson. He's basically the only true FS on the roster.

I can't help but wonder, what was Pace's plan for the draft if Cleveland had sprung their own surprise and taken Trubisky #1?

I'd guess they would have tried to trade down with someone that wanted Fournette or they would've stayed put and drafted Thomas.Middleguard wrote:I can't help but wonder, what was Pace's plan for the draft if Cleveland had sprung their own surprise and taken Trubisky #1?

Hard to say. If he's to be believed, he would have stuck to his board. Which means a QB may have not been drafted.Middleguard wrote:But what QB?wab wrote:I'd guess they would have tried to trade down with someone that wanted Fournette or they would've stayed put and drafted Thomas.Middleguard wrote:I can't help but wonder, what was Pace's plan for the draft if Cleveland had sprung their own surprise and taken Trubisky #1?
Which is probably why has said something along the lines of "we don't have to take a QB at all". I'd suppose it was Trubisky or bust.

this was, hands down, the most confusing, perplexing, and surprising Bears draft day I can recall in my lifetime
I hope all that weirdness translates into good things

For those that are worried about what the experts think:
Holy Shit - We got Justin Fields!

fuck em ... they don't know a damn thing more than we do in spite of being paid to know more and having more resources to find out
I guess I've grown even less patient with people presenting things they pulled from their asses as some sort of magical revelation we should all hold as gospel ... my disappointment with this started years ago with Mel Kiper and has only gone to lower depths since

Yet Pace was "fleeced"? Give me a fucking breakIf we take the Bears' draft as a whole, they came out OK from a value standpoint. The picks they held entering the draft were worth 3,179 points on the Jimmy Johnson trade chart. The picks they held in the end were worth 3,113 points, counting 2018 picks that were part of the Bears' trades.
The difference in value equates to the 114th overall pick, a small price to pay for a team to make sure it gets the quarterback it wants. The deficit equates to the 48th overall pick if we use the trade chart Chase Stuart produced for his site, Football Perspective.

Admittedly it felt like it ant the time. Once my rage and confusion subsided, I realized it was a hell of a deal.

Every year I do a "who would I have drafted" mock draft. Every year but this year I have gone asking with what ever trades were made. This year it took until pick 15 I said I wouldn't have traded up. So this is how the draft I think should have went.
Clearly I was on the Mahomes wagon.
3 Mahomes, Patrick QB
45 Chidobe Awuzie CB
67 Jordan Willis Edge
111 Bucky Hodges TE
117 Chad Hansen WR
119 Roderick Johnson OT
147 Desmond King S
197 Jeremiah Ledbetter 5T
221 Christopher Carson RB
UF Connor Harris LB
UF. Cole Hikutini TE
UF. Carroll Phillips Edge
