Assuming he's healthy, this is a solid pick.

Really? I like the pick made immediately after him better. This may be my new Deon Bush.

I love this pick and Pace continuing to show he's willing to move up to grab the guy he wants.

I will say the talk of the Redshirt draft is certainly applicable. These guys make a lot of sense 2 seasons from now. And, if I remove the fan in me, I understand it.

Welcome to the team Mr. Jackson

Go Bears!

If his leg's on track, great pick. Not the guy I wanted at FS, but I'm just some schlub. I like that we met a strategic need, even if it took an unnecessary flourish. Not enough picks after burning one here and another on Cohen to meet more than one more real need, though.

Really like this pick a lot. He's a true ball hawk center fielder and has added value in the return game, which we haven't had since Hester. Nice get in the 4th.

I bet they wanted Thompson out of Colorado.

I wanted Thompson. I appreciate the aggressiveness to trade up for their target, I'm just not confident Jackson makes it back from the broken leg. Seems like we're reaching a lot this weekend

Brett Kollmann has been touting Eddie Jackson for a few months now. He thinks that in any other draft, Jackson would be the top free safety in his class. He calls Jackson a slightly discounted version of Malik Hooker with elite return ability. He is a God awful tackler, but it doesn't matter much for a single high safety that is in charge of taking the ball away. He had Jackson going #12 to the Cleveland Browns in his mock draft. Kollmann's assessment of Eddie Jackson is at 18:54 of this video:

Two major leg injuries, bad instincts, had his highlight reel handed to him by the talent playing around him.
We drafted a punt returner/ backup DB.... And traded up to get him. This guy will never see the top of the depth chart on purpose.
My new Deon Bush.

I personally am not a fan of this pick. I understand it but mofugger has it right in my opinion.

I like this pick. I am not really worried about a broken leg...bones heal fine, especially the big ones.

I don't like the weak tackling technique, but that is something I am certain he can be coached on. I LOVE his ball-hawking skills.

he could be solid if he can stay healthy, but I don't think there was a need to trade up to get him ... I guess that is Pace's mantra this year

Pace : "Hey! I want this guy! Get him NOW!"

Bears Draft Room Group : "We aren't up yet."

Pace : "I'll fix that. Send the pick in."

Pace certainly seemed animated and very much into this draft ... he mave have done things to make us scratch our heads, but he is doing things ... hopefully he is doing things to actually have a purpose rather than to just seem active

Watched some highlights and liked what I saw. Love his build and nose for the ball. Health obviously will make or break his career, but value is terrific. May not be a year one guy, but year two? Look out.

Adipost wrote:He is a God awful tackler
"He started four games at cornerback as a true freshman and eventually moved to safety during spring ball before his junior year. He did so with the help of a familiar face: former Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, who was an assistant at Alabama."
(Patrick Finley, Chicago Sun Times)

Well that explains why the kid can't tackle!

This is my problem with taking a pre injured player banking on his recovery and his highlight reel as explained by an NFL scout......

The scout told NFL.com that Jackson was a product of Alabama’s loaded defense and “cherry-picked” bad passes to pad his stats before suffering a season-ending injury in 2016.

“He had like 10 first-rounders in front of him and lockdown corners who almost never needed help,” the scout told NFL.com. “He got to sit back and cherry-pick overthrows. That’s great work if you can get it.”

I still think in a draft without Adams and Hooker, and assuming he wasn't recovering from a broken leg, he goes anywhere between 20-40.

He's a metric shit ton faster than Bush. Bush has some coverage ability but is more of a hitter. Jackson is a pure coverage safety.

In the sense that I hate this pick as much as I hated the Bush pick, yes. All hype, that will turn into hope, that will end in "ah hell".
I know that sounds overly pessimistic. But kids like this almost never put it all together once they get in the pro's.

However, he's not a complete waste, and all teams need depth. I just hate drafting backups. Especially with the third of only 5 picks.

Eh. He's the most athletic safety the Bears have. I trust Donatell on this one. Assuming they progress, Jackson, Amos, and Bush isn't a bad trio of safeties to build on.

Luckily he doesn't have to play right away.

Pace on why the Bears traded up for Alabama safety/punt returner Eddie Jackson: "... A player that we had graded high on our board, obviously willing to move up for, plays free safety also a very good punt returner, a converted corner, very good instinct, very good ball skills, something we need and something we’re excited about, so a good addition for us."

Pace on Jackson's skill set: "It was just the ball skills and the instincts. So we really liked him as a safety and then you combine that with his skills as a punt returner and we knew we wanted to address punt returner. So I was like man, we’re going to kill two birds with one stone here and get a good safety and a good punt returner. It’s always good for me when I feel the excitement of our defensive coaches and the excitement of our special teams coaches and the excitement of our head coach. It’s a good pick to make.”

The only thing I don't like about him is that he's soft in run-support, and a poor tackler as other posters have addressed here.

Good thing we have Amos for that.

I like this kid as a true center-fielder.

I watched 8 of his games on DB. His film isn't impressive, shows more wrong than right. Not sure what Pace and Co. sees in this kid? Only thing I can see as a potential building block is he can stay on the receivers hip on deep balls and has some PB follow through. I don't like this pick at all. Hope I'm wrong.
