I'm praying that the competition jump won't be too steep for this kid. He'll be really exciting to watch if his learning curve for the NFL game isn't too bad. We need redemption on the Garrett Wolfe pick back in 2007.G08 wrote:

Ya know what makes RBs like this great?
A good offense. A Great QB, and WRs who require attention down field.
The problem is, the Bears have none of these.
I hope I'm terribly wrong and he is a spark plug. But this is the one pick I really couldn't figure out in my head. I was even able to understand the 1st pick, but I am not sure about this one
Actually, if he was a return man it would have made me feel better about it. But...

I think Fox really wanted a back that could take it to the house, and Pace wanted to add a back that not only had home run speed but someone that could be a legit threat out of the backfield / in the passing game.46Blitz wrote:Ya know what makes RBs like this great?

This may be true G08. Actually can completely understand it in a way.
But feel it's a stretch and bad decision. Maybe it's just me and still feeling the sting of Wolfe a few years back. Maybe it's the old school mind I have who never was a fan of gimmic crap. Heck, I watched Basketball for the first time in years and wanted to tear out my eyes watching. All those 3pt shots while the whole lane was open.
My thing is. Fix the conventional stuff and then plug a play or two if it gets you excited. And if your master plan is to have a 3rd down back, he better be able to block. Otherwise these defenses will know exactly what to do.
Again, I hope as hell someone has a reason to dig this post up and rub it in my face. Lol

I mean you're not wrong man... what makes me feel a little better about the pick is looking at who was still on the board when he was taken. Jake Butt went high in round 5, but we had already taken Shaheen.
Howard will be our bellcow, Langford/Carey there for depth, and this kid as the third round back.

This guy really looks like a PR to me. I can't imagine they won't try him there.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Sounds like this kid didn't have a very good first day at OTAs... fumbled, dropped a pass, and missed protection.

First day of regular season is a crappy time to have a bad day.
Lets hope he learns and pulls it together!
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Various beat writers, there's one that's more thorough but it's behind a paywall.Nanky wrote:Where's the best place for updates like this on OTAs?G08 wrote:Sounds like this kid didn't have a very good first day at OTAs... fumbled, dropped a pass, and missed protection.

I'm loving everything this guys doing. On the field. In front of the media. There's no fading this guy. People are expecting him to be a "scat back" like Sproles, but I think he's just gona be a running back. We'll see how he handles a full season of NFL hits, but I'm beyond impressed.

I hope I continue to be wrong about Cohen (though my main concern remains durability).

How long before he proves you wrong, thunder? I know it's early but you have to admit, he's looked much better than anyone would have thought after week 1.thunderspirit wrote:I hate this pick.

He's electric. Even my lousy eyes can see that.
He's also 5-6, 180 # in a big man's game.

Darren Sproles is 5' 6", 190# and has been working his magic since 2005
it is way to soon to tell, but my hope is Cohen becomes Sproles 2 - the sequel
and if the extra 10 pounds is required for Cohen, then maybe we should send him ads and hints for Giordano's and Portillos for some deep dish and loaded beefs

I have to admit, he was impressive. Was kinda questioning this pick during the draft, but he makes the backfield much more dynamic. Of course over the long term, would like to see them lean on Howard more and sprinkle some cohen in. Maybe 60/35? That's including Cohen taking majority of 3rd and long and Howard 3rd and short.
