Let's make this the Illini thread, for all intents and purposes!

I live in Champaign, so while I follow and support the U of I, I don't have more than a lukewarm investment in their success. I do hope they turn the FB/BB programs around. I think their new AD will do that.

that was so sad ... doink, tip, pick

hope the Bears don't see this to use as a teaching tool ... instead of learning from it, they would set out to copy it

To be fair, Lovie's playing a lot of his freshmen and has a HUGE task ahead of him. I think in 3-4 years, should he not opt to return to the NFL, he'll have a really nice program on his hands.

The Big 10 has won 4 National Championships in the last 50 years-3 by Ohio State and 1 by Michigan. Nebraska and Penn State also won but not as Big 10 Members. Illinois is in the bottom tier of Big 10 teams in terms of facilities. As a result it is at a disadvantage in recruiting because it cannot compete for prospects on a national basis. The states of Michigan and Ohio have stronger in state prospects. In football, except for an occasional year of good fortune, Illinois is right there with Rutgers, Indiana, and maybe Purdue. The school is located a considerable distance from the state's population center which hurts fund raising. The state itself is broke. Not a pretty picture.

Illini sports.........just so effing depressing. Can't figure out how the big 2 can be in such shitty shape. They just can't seem to make the right hires and that affects getting kids there.

If I am not mistaken, the baseball and tennis teams have performed well.

..wearing my Illinois sweatshirt.. I am an Illini Alum many years ago.. I watch with no passion but curiosity.. Illinois draws 3 star talent where others nearby...Wisc, Ohio, Mich and Mich State..others..draw from the top.
Difficult to see where/how the football program could succeed given that and what I hear is second tier facilities..

Same here with my adopted team..after 40 years here in Tucson.. Arizona Wildcats,, Yes I do have a couple sweaters and shirt..gifts but I wear them to games when I go.

Arizona is a "basketball" school..as was Illinois until recently..but both are second tier football programs. Arizona has recently upgraded and is continuing to improve facilities and player development.

What can you do.. Born and raised in Illinois but 40 years here in Tucson..

GIVE ME A GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM DAMMIT..someone..either one..
