so like, if we're being honest with ourselves, a lifetime contract will do nothing to slow down speculation that he's dreaming of coaching the bears.

A lifetime contract would be a 3 year deal where another year is automatically added every time he reaches certain parameters.
If he fails to do so in 3 consecutive seasons then he would be fired.
