I was invited by a friend to a charity crab cookout over the weekend. Proceeds will go to the animal shelters rescuing pets and other animals who were victims of the hurricane. So hey - good food, beer, and money to a worthy cause? I'm in.
Found out today part of the festivities will involve a crab eating contest, and the star participant will be a local guy who lost to the national champion at one of the recent hot dog eating events.
And I just don't get it.
I know there are a lot of stupid things we watch and participate in for entertainment, but I have never seen the allure of these food eating events. It actually makes me nauseous trying to see someone wolf down a large quantity of food in a short time.
Some people even do it for fun, without competition or prizes, which makes me even more of the "wtf?" mindset regarding the practice.
Food Eating Competitions - why?
