As long as things stay on the shooting, relevant gun policy type stuff, and don’t become too much more political than that, I’ll allow it. Just be civil.

I appreciate that... there needs to be discussion in this country covering numerous topics, we all just need to find a way to do it without resorting to our comfortable place and hammering down our flag. There needs to be ebb and flow and a healthy respect of both positions (if possible... I personally have no healthy respect for those that deny climate change).

One being an AR for work, several shotguns, and 3 pistols. The do understand the thoughts on certain limitations. I just don't know how implementation works. I think that's the, and will always be the sticking point. This guy sounds like he had an illegal weapon. Maybe he had the right ffl. Which then I don't know enough to comment.

apparently he bought all of his weapons legally, but the modification to make a few of them fully automatic was illegal

not known if he did the mods himself

so there is a major flaw of any regulation if you can buy a legal weapon and then turn it into an illegal one at your home workbench

as for the actual event, this is just weird and scary :
Police have identified Stephen Paddock as the gunman who opened fire on concertgoers from a hotel room in Las Vegas, killing at least 59 people and leaving more than 500 wounded in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Paddock, 64, began shooting from two windows on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino just after 10 p.m. local time Sunday evening, police said. A SWAT team found Paddock dead in his hotel room and believe he killed himself.

Police said Paddock had at least 23 firearms in his hotel suite. He had been staying in the room since Sept. 28. They said another 19 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, explosives and electronics were found at his home at a retirement community in Mesquite, Nevada, about 75 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Aaron Rouse said in a press conference Monday morning that the bureau had found "no connection with an international terrorist group." The motive was still under investigation.

Paddock had no criminal record beyond a routine citation several years ago that was handled in court.

no criminal record ... no financial issues ... nothing to flag him as a potential murderer ... but here is is on a Vegas trip with 23 weapons in his hotel room and he just goes off ... plus he had an arsenal at his home

so damn weird

The conspiracy theorist inside me wonders if he got into a pretty big debt with Vegas and this was his way out (his brother said he was a huge gambler, especially recently).

Brain-washed / mind-control for some reason?

Latent psychoses? I guess his father was considered a psychopath.

Agreed, though... this is pretty odd.

I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories in general...but there's a lot of weird things about this that don't add up. I mean, that's literally hundreds of pounds of weapons he'd have to carry up there. And it's not like you can just stash a belt fed M240 and a tripod in the bathroom when housekeeping comes.

The cycle rates of fire are different (slow like an AK with a slide fire stock and a drum and then fast like an AR with a binary trigger), yet happening at the same time. The sound of the rounds are different yet happening at the same time (an AK has kind of a thump, an AR has a crack).

And they are saying 1:12 passed between the first call to 911 and when the police breached the door. I mean how does this go on for an hour and 12 minutes???

I'm not an expert and I don't believe anything I hear on the news or social media. But the whole thing feels weird.

The CIA was messing around with LSD as a means of mind control in the 50s, nothing would surprise me.

The 1:12 was until the SWAT team got there. "First reponders", under armed police officers got there prior to that and took fire, one killed (as reported on CNN).

I have my own theory. I know brain tumors can alter reality. You can seem normal on the outside but inside be crazy.

He shot for 13 min. They got to the floor and where going to make entry when he turned his attention to the door. At that point it's time to slow it down. The shooters killing field is out of play or not active.

I love this dude.

There was a sniper at a Texas college many years ago who went on a killing spree, ultimately shooting at people from a belltower. Left a note or told a friend that if I die, have them look for a brain tumor. Sure enough he had a big-ass brain tumor that fucked him up, driving him to kill.

I saw a GoFundMe page set up to pay for these innocent folks medical bills. Only in America can you get shot up by an automatic weapon and then have to pay the medical bills from this political negligence.

I saw that, it's all seems a bit off, but of course killing people is a bit off to begin with. And the FBI says she is coming back.

I wonder if we will ever really know.

It's kind of weird but we always want to know huh why. Mass killing and suicide are illogical, and not comprehensible things. The why seems so important but it's generally the same illogical process. Yet I want to know why.

The other thing that's wrong with this world, the stock that this shithead used was $99 on Sunday morning. Now it's either out of stock everywhere or selling on the secondary market for 7 times that.

I also got an email from a place I buy stuff through with a picture of the 100 round SureFire mags he had saying "Get them while you still can!"

This is the shit that makes it hard to defend. This is what lumps regular folks like me into the bucket of dopes you see walking around in camo with rifles slung waving flags and shit at rallies on the news. (And there are a lot more of me than there are of them...we just kinda don't say anything because we don't want to get publicly shamed.)

There were reports everywhere that since Trump was elected as President, gun stocks went way down (nobody was scared that they were going to git dere guns taken away).

Then this happens.

Now stock soars.

I don't think this country is above doing something like this to appease their owners, er, stockholders, er, campaign donors.

I know what your talking about, especially if you see the scumbags at a lot of the gun shows (not everybody, just some). You see a lot of rebel (Confederate) flags, etc. You see guys wearing and selling shirts that say, "Kill'em all and let God sort'em out." It's tough for me to hear gun supporters defend this culture when I know that they know this dangerous unstable and extreme segment exists because they have seen them and spoken to them or have observed them. There is no mistaking that these dudes are up to no good and it will take very little for them to go off the rails.

And let's face it, we dodged a bullet with the events that unfolded in Charlottesville. That group of white nationalists, white supremists, Nazis, Alt-Right, whatever you want to call them, were so heavily armed that (according to many reports) the police were intimidated to do anything because they didn't want it to turn into a huge shoot-out....
That could have been just another mass killing. And if anyone wants to picture a good portion of the people that attend gun shows, a lot of them look like the dudes at Charlottesville.

Yep, the a-hole individuals and companies that try to and do profit off of these tragedies should have all of their assets and money seized and given to the victims and families of the victims. It's blood money and regardless of being a relatively free trade society it should not be allowed.

Sounds like this piece of shit rented a room that overlooked Lollapalooza this past August and apparently didn't show up.

My wife, my sister-in-law, and I were all there.... so that sends an odd sensation/chill down the spine.
