sad news from up north :

CFL mourns the loss of Hall of Fame coach Don Matthews
TORONTO — The Canadian Football League is saddened to learn of the passing of Hall of Fame coach Don Matthews who passed away today at the age of 77.

Known to many as simply ‘The Don’, Matthews ushered a new era of coaching into the CFL, retiring as the league’s winningest coach with a record of 231-132-1 in a career that spanned over four decades.

He currently sits behind just Wally Buono as the coach with the most career wins after Buono broke his record in 2009.

A 5-time Grey Cup Champion, Matthews was named CFL Coach of the Year an incredible five times before being inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Matthews’ fingerprints are all over the CFL as someone who has helped groom some of the most accomplished coaching prodigies who continue to lead teams both on the sidelines and in the front office.

Matthews got his CFL start in 1977 as a linebackers coach with the Edmonton Eskimos. He served as Defensive Coordinator in Edmonton until he took his first head coaching position with the BC Lions from 1983 to 1987 where he led the Lions to a Grey Cup in 1985.

Vince Young's return to professional football has hit a snag

Vince Young could miss up to six weeks with a torn hamstring
SASKATOON — Vince Young has hit a roadblock on his comeback trail.

Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach-GM Chris Jones revealed Monday that an MRI conducted recently in Toronto showed that Young had a torn hamstring. The 34-year-old quarterback suffered the injury during a training-camp workout June 6 at Griffiths Stadium.

“He’ll have to take it easy and get it well and then we’ll see where he’s at when he gets it well,” Jones said following Monday’s workout at Saskatoon Minor Football Field.

Jones wasn’t sure how long Young would be inactive, but noted his layoff “is looking four to six (weeks) right now” because the damage was “a lot worse than what we envisioned.” There’s a possibility Young could begin the 2017 regular season on the injured list.

Despite his NFL experience, Young is considered a CFL rookie. As such, he can be released without any obligation on the Roughriders’ part if they choose instead to make that move.

Young, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in 2005, was drafted in the first round (third overall) of the 2006 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound pivot was named the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year after starting 13 games for the Titans in 2006.

A two-time Pro Bowler in Tennessee, Young was released in July of 2011. He spent the rest of that season with the Philadelphia Eagles and subsequently had stints with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns before retiring in June of 2014.

Even though Young hadn’t played in a regular-season game since 2011 — or been part of a pro team since 2014 — the Roughriders contacted him in late January. After working him out, the Roughriders signed Young in March.

Riders Are Ready to Close out Pre-season
Saskatchewan Roughriders at B.C. Lions
Friday, 8 p.m., BC Place

TSN

THE FORECAST: Environment Canada is calling for a high of 17 C during the day in Vancouver with a 40-per-cent chance of rain. The night-time temperature is expected to be 10 C. There’s a chance the retractable roof at BC Place will be closed.

THE LOWDOWN: The Roughriders and Lions each are playing their second (and final) game of the 2017 CFL pre-season. Saskatchewan opened its exhibition slate with a 25-25 tie against the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday. B.C. lost 23-18 to the Calgary Stampeders in its first pre-season game on June 6 … The contest will be the final chance for players on the bubble to impress coaches. The CFL’s roster deadline is Saturday at 8 p.m., Regina time.

THE RIDERS’ ROSTER: Quarterback Kevin Glenn didn’t play in the Roughriders’ first pre-season contest, so this will be his first (and only) game action before Saskatchewan opens the regular season June 22 against the host Montreal Alouettes … Glenn will start Friday’s game and is expected to get about a quarter and a half of playing time. Brandon Bridge, who started (and stole the show) against the Bombers, is slated to play next as Glenn’s primary backup. Bryan Bennett and Marquise Williams each could get a quarter of playing time in the second half.

Roughriders guards Brendon LaBatte (ankle) and Josiah St. John (head) haven’t practised since the game against Winnipeg and won’t play in Vancouver. Peter Dyakowski will start at left guard in place of LaBatte, while rookie Dariusz Bladek has moved into St. John’s spot at right guard. Bladek, whom Saskatchewan selected in the second round (11th overall) of the May 7 draft, has looked right at home with the Roughriders.

Saskatchewan got catches from 14 members of its receiving corps against the Bombers. The veterans likely will play more against B.C., but the rookies have been productive since Day 1 of training camp

Nationals Henoc Muamba and Mike Dubuisson both took reps at middle linebacker with the No. 1 defence this week

Two CFL rookies — former NFLer Crezdon Butler and rookie Mark Roberts — are manning the halfback and cornerback spots, respectively, on the field side of the Roughriders’ defence … Two of the more intriguing battles in camp were at punter and kicker. Sophomore Quinn van Gylswyk has been pushing both incumbent punter Josh Bartel and veteran kicker Tyler Crapigna, so someone could wind up getting the boot … Veterans LaBatte, Jonathan Newsome, Chad Owens, Rob Bagg and Spencer Moore are among the players who won’t dress for the Roughriders on Friday due to nagging injuries.

Regular season begins tonight.

READY FOR KICKOFF: PREVIEWING THE 2017 CFL SEASON

CFL 2017 Schedule

Where to Watch: 2017 Regular Season Broadcast Schedule

ESPN is the USA broadcast partner.

Some other tidbits for CFL 2017 :

Marc Trestman - Toronto Argonauts Head Coach
TORONTO — A new era of football begins in Toronto as Marc Trestman starts the regular season as the leader of the Argonauts.

The Argos’ bench boss has been a coach both north and south of the border – first starting his career in the NFL before heading north to the Montreal Alouettes and then returning back to the NFL for a second stint.

And now, Trestman is making his return to the Canadian game.

Trestman’s success in the CFL has been well documented and admired around the league — he, along with General Manager Jim Popp, led the Alouettes to back-to-back Grey Cups in 2009 and 2010.

And now the duo is united as the Trestman-Popp era of Toronto Argonauts football begins with hopes of helping the team improve on a 5-13 season.
QBs in the spotlight as Als, Riders kick off 2017 season
MONTREAL — After a seven-month wait, football is finally back and with it arrives a barrage of dramatic storylines.

Some of those, like Darian Durant’s migration from the capital of Saskatchewan to the southern tip of Quebec, have gradually built steam since the middle of January. But now, On June 22 in Montreal, a scenario once unimaginable unfolds as familiar faces reacquaint and a brand new season begins.

On Thursday night at Percival-Molson Stadium, Durant takes the field not in his patented green and white but instead a uniform coloured bleu, blanc et rouge as the Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders kick off their 2017 campaign.

“It’s going to be an exciting day for me,” Durant told MontrealAlouettes.com. “Not only do I get a chance to go against my former team and teammates but it’s a new beginning for me in front of the wonderful fans of Montreal, a great environment to play in and I’m looking forward to starting the season off right, one game at a time.”

Durant’s change of allegiance represents a new era for both teams involved. While the Riders have only 29 players returning from last season and now possess the CFL’s youngest roster at an average age of 26.9 years, the Alouettes have their first franchise quarterback since the departure of Anthony Calvillo in 2013.

No. 4 is the face of the franchise in Montreal and with his addition as well as several others, the Alouettes are barely recognizable from the team that finished 7-11 last season — tied for second in the East but not good enough to make the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

While the Alouettes have the CFL’s oldest roster at an average age of 28.4 years, age also equates to experience and maturity, something Durant embodies.

“He’s just a natural-born leader,” said Tiquan Underwood. “He’s an older guy who’s been in this league, won a Grey Cup.”

Durant is jumping head first into a firestorm in a matchup against his former team and former coach in Chris Jones, who said this off-season that the quarterback had ‘moderate success’ in 2016. But while the 34-year-old Durant, who spent 11 seasons with the Riders, will no doubt have those comments in mind when he takes the field Thursday, this Week 1 matchup will be played on a bigger scale for the Montreal Alouettes.

A new season brings new hope for the Roughriders
MONTREAL — The Saskatchewan Roughriders finally will turn the page on a frustrating 2016 CFL season today, simply by starting the 2017 campaign.

The Roughriders went 5-13-0 in the ’16 regular season and missed the playoffs. It was the first time in Chris Jones’ 15-year CFL coaching career that his team didn’t qualify for the post-season.

Saskatchewan opens the 2017 regular season today against the host Montreal Alouettes, motivated by last season’s subpar showing — and eager to avoid a repeat.

“We don’t want to have that feeling ever again,” said Roughriders defensive lineman Ese Mrabure. “You don’t want to go back and have that bitter, sour taste in your mouth game after game after game.

“We’re all hungry and that hunger is going to be the motivator.”

Centre Dan Clark agreed, but noted that there has to be more than just a desire for redemption.

“It’s always a motivator when you’re coming off a crappy year,” he said. “But when you come into a new season, you’d better have motivation whether you won the Grey Cup or not. You want to do everything better than you did the year before.

“(Last season’s showing) is motivation, but you’ve got to have the right mindset. You’ve got to be able to do your job consistently and do your job right every time.”

The 2016 Roughriders had myriad shortcomings.

Injuries to key players like national guards Chris Best and Brendon LaBatte forced the Roughriders to juggle the ratio, which hurt them in other positions.

Saskatchewan registered league lows in points scored (350), touchdowns (31) and passing touchdowns (16) and finished eighth in sacks allowed (57) and net offence (327.4 yards per game).

Defensively, the Roughriders weren’t able to force turnovers (a league-worst 27, including just 11 interceptions) and couldn’t get to opposing quarterbacks (29 sacks, last in the CFL).

Kevin Glenn is set to pass a legend
MONTREAL — As Kevin Glenn approaches his 17th CFL season, it’s obvious that using the veteran quarterback is more than a passing fad.

The 38-year-old product of Detroit has dressed for 269 regular-season games in the league and has made 191 career starts, spread out over stints with eight of the league’s nine teams.

The only club for which he hasn’t played is the Edmonton Eskimos — and he has jokingly suggested that he wants to sign a one-day contract with them before he retires so that he can complete the series.

But more importantly, Glenn has been productive as both a starter and a backup. Now the No. 1 pivot with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Glenn goes into Thursday’s regular-season opener against the host Montreal Alouettes with 48,829 career passing yards.

Already seventh on the CFL’s all-time yardage list, Glenn is on the verge of becoming the seventh quarterback in league history to reach the 50,000-yard milestone. It’s not far from there to the sixth-highest total on the all-time list — the 50,535 yards put up by Roughriders legend Ron Lancaster.

“It’s cool, especially being in this market and being on this team, to be able to get those kinds of numbers to pass that guy,” Glenn says. “Lancaster was a great guy and a lot of people in this league praise him. To be able to accomplish something like that would be amazing.”

Glenn, whose tour of the CFL began with the Roughriders in 2001, never got to know Lancaster on a personal level. They met and chatted, but Glenn notes the relationship was never “a talk-on-the-phone type of thing.” Lancaster died in September of 2008.

But Glenn — after arriving in Regina from Illinois State University — heard all about The Little General.

“You find out who he is really quickly and you take note of it,” Glenn says. “At that particular time, I never would have thought that I would still be here playing and maybe surpassing him one day as far as yards are concerned.”

Crapigna’s late miss seals season-opening win for Durant, Als
MONTREAL — Darian Durant threw two touchdown passes while Tyler Crapigna’s last-play field goal sailed wide, sending the Alouettes to a 17-16 season-opening win over the Roughriders on Thursday night in Montreal.

Durant threw touchdowns to B.J. Cunningham and Ernest Jackson while Boris Bede provided the game’s winning points with 2:29 remaining, making Durant’s first game against his former team a winning effort.

Crapigna had a chance to win the game for the Riders but missed right on a 45-yard attempt with no time left on the clock.

Bakari Grant scored the Riders’ only touchdown while Crapigna hit on three of four tries in a losing effort for Saskatchewan. But in the end, the Riders will lament not only the missed field goal but also a pair of second-half turnovers in an otherwise spirited effort in front of 20,129 fans at Percival-Molson Stadium.

For Durant, the narrow victory was a statement against the coach and general manager in Chris Jones that let him go this off-season. Durant completed 20 of 31 passes for 233 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

While Kevin Glenn was sharp in his first game back with the Riders, completing 31 of 44 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown, the 38-year-old also threw a fourth-quarter interception.

Cunningham had a game-high 90 yards on four catches for the Als while Jackson, in his first game after leaving the Grey Cup-winning Ottawa REDBLACKS, was held to 16 yards on two catches.
so the game was close, but the sad song of losing continues for Saskatchewan

I'm happy for Durant because he missed almost all of the last 2 years due to injury after having successful seasons in Saskatchewan prior to that ... sucks he is now healthy for someone else and beating Saskatchewan

week 2 is in the books ... Saskatchewan starts 0-2 after an OT loss

Bombers top Riders in OT, spoil opening of Mosaic Stadium
REGINA – Justin Medlock kicked the game-winning field goal in the second overtime as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers beat the rival Saskatchewan Roughriders in the first ever regular season game at the new Mosaic Stadium.

Winnipeg opened the first overtime with a 36-yard field goal by Medlock. Tristan Okpalaugo sacked Kevin Glenn on second down but Tyler Crapigna kicked a 30-yard field goal of his own to send the game to a second overtime.

Passes to Nic Demski and Rob Bagg gave the Riders a first down. Glenn was again tackled on second down and Crapigna hit the goalpost on a 33 yard attempt, giving Winnipeg a chance to clinch the victory. The Bombers took advantage with Andrew Harris rushing for a first down before Medlock secured the 43-40 win.

Matt Nichols threw for 331 yards and four touchdowns plus an interception while Glenn recorded 377 passing yards, four touchdowns and two picks. Weston Dressler burned his former team for 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The game was a thrilling way for the Riders to open up their new home on Canada Day.

CFL 2017 Week 3 Results

Saskatchewan gets their first win of the season :

The Roughriders earn their first victory of 2017
Two weeks of frustration melted away Saturday.

After losing their first two regular-season games by a grand total of four points — and losing both in crushing fashion — the Saskatchewan Roughriders posted a well-earned 37-20 CFL victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Mosaic Stadium.

“The type of win that we had today after the loss that we had last week is big,” said Roughriders quarterback Kevin Glenn, referring to a 43-40, double-overtime loss to the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers on July 1.

“It shows a lot about the team and the guys in that locker room, the type of character guys that we have. They still believed and we’re still a team.”

Saskatchewan opened the season June 22, losing 17-16 to the host Montreal Alouettes on a missed field-goal attempt by Tyler Crapigna on the game’s final play.

On July 1, Crapigna hit an upright with a field-goal try on the Roughriders’ possession in the second overtime period. Needing just a single to win, the Bombers got a field goal from Justin Medlock that gave them the victory.

The Roughriders didn’t look at all tentative Saturday, though, trailing only once in the game. Hamilton led 7-2 eight minutes into the first quarter.

“A lot of guys just let it out and just went out and played,” Glenn said. “They weren’t uptight and they weren’t worried about anything.

“It was just kind of like a free-for-all of everyone going out and playing and believing in the guy next to you that he’s going to make his own play. That way, we don’t have to worry about being that guy every play to make the big play.”

Special teams and the defence set up the game’s first score. After Saskatchewan’s Josh Bartel pinned the Tiger-Cats at their five-yard line with a nifty coffin-corner punt, the defence held Hamilton’s offence without a first down.

Saskatchewan is off to their usual stumbling start ... their QB set a milestone passing mark in week 5, but it was in a losing effort

Kevin Glenn joins the 50,000-yard club
CALGARY — Kevin Glenn wasn’t in much of a celebratory mood Saturday.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback reached a major milestone — the 17-year veteran became just the seventh QB in CFL history to surpass 50,000 career passing yards — but the accomplishment came during a 27-10 loss to the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium.

“It’s tough to enjoy it because the bigger prize was the win,” Glenn said after his team fell to 1-3-0 this season. “I’m a team guy, so that’s all I’m about. But it’s good to be recognized for your individual statistics because it happens; we are individuals playing a team sport.

“It’s tough to enjoy it, but I probably have a bunch of text messages from family and friends congratulating me. Even one of the refs, right when the fourth quarter (began), came over in the huddle in a timeout and congratulated me. It was kind of cool. All my teammates did, too.”

Social media mavens also weighed in after Glenn reached the mark. CFL players, fans and league observers tweeted their congratulations after the 38-year-old pivot completed a 23-yard pass to Naaman Roosevelt on Saskatchewan’s first possession of the second half.

One play later, Cameron Marshall scored on a five-yard touchdown run to cut Calgary’s lead to 17-7.

“It’s sweet,” Roosevelt said of catching the pass that put Glenn in esteemed company. “I’m happy for KG. He’s been a great player for a long time. It’s just awesome for him to get there. I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Glenn threw for 203 yards Saturday, giving him 50,087 in his career. He joins Anthony Calvillo (79,816), Damon Allen (72,381), Henry Burris (63,369), Ricky Ray (56,412 and counting), Danny McManus (53,255) and Ron Lancaster (50,535) in the CFL’s 50,000-yard club.

Don Landry’s 5 takeaways from Week 5
Hello, McMahon Stadium Squirrel.

You’ve sure got what we call a “football motor.” Incredible energy. But you have so much more than that, too. You’ve got football smarts. The waggle you displayed on that second quarter play? Perfect timing. And the sense to recognize zone defence and to sit down in an open area like that, just in case Bo needed you as an outlet? Solid, squirrel. Solid.

Carter’s pair of touchdowns help lead Riders over Argos
REGINA – On a scorching summer evening at Mosaic Stadium filled with highlight reel catches, the Saskatchewan Roughriders used their air attack to break open in the second half and secure the 38-27 victory over the Toronto Argonauts.

Led by Kevin Glenn’s four touchdown passes and Duron Carter’s two endzone grabs and 131 receiving yards, the Riders overcame an early deficit for the win.

Toronto jumped out to a quick lead but the Riders consistently kept the game close.

Ricky Ray found Anthony Coombs early and often on the team’s opening drive as the duo kept the ball moving downfield. SJ Green added a nine-yard grab and a rush by James Wilder on third down allowed for the Argos to keep the pushing downfield. Lirim Hajrullahu capped the drive with a 27-yard field goal to put the Boatmen up 3-0 early.

The Argos defence pinned the Riders deep in their own zone after a sack by Troy Davis, allowing for them to get the ball back on offence near midfield. A 45-yard gain by Declan Cross put Toronto into scoring territory and a roughing the passer penalty moved the Argos even closer to the end zone. Llevi Noel recorded his first touchdown reception of the season to push the Argos lead to 10-0.

First down catches by Bakari Grant and Naaman Roosevelt and rushes by Cameron Marshall led the Riders response to put some points on the board. Getting into the red zone, Glenn punched through on third down but could not find paydirt as Saskatchewan had to settle for a field goal by Tyler Crapigna.

some good news for Saskatchewan :

Weekly Insights: Record gains for the Riders
TORONTO — All in the work of a single game, Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back Ed Gainey went from the bottom of the CFL interceptions chart to the top.

In helping the Riders to a 41-8 victory, Gainey hauled in four interceptions and recovered a fumble. The 27-year-old’s outing on Sunday night vs. the BC Lions was as rare as a solar eclipse, setting a new franchise record while falling one pick shy of the league’s all-time single-game benchmark.

In this week’s CFL Insights presented by PWC, we take a look at Gainey’s historic evening:

week 9 & 10 in the books

The Roughriders answered a few questions in Edmonton
EDMONTON – The Saskatchewan Roughriders finally took their show on the road.

The Roughriders scored four offensive touchdowns, two defensive touchdowns and one major on special teams Friday en route to a 54-31 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos before 41,738 patrons at Commonwealth Stadium.

Saskatchewan had lost four straight games on the road — including three this season — and had dropped 15 straight regular-season away games against West Division teams. Those streaks ended in a big way Friday.

Asked if the contest was a “statement game,” Roughriders head coach-GM Chris Jones replied: “That’s up to y’all to decide all that, whether it’s a statement or not.

“We just wanted to win the next game, which happened to be here on the road against a very good opponent, a very well-coached football team,” Jones said after his team scored its most points in a game since it defeated the Montreal Alouettes 54-51 in overtime on July 1, 2010. “That’s a good football team over there and we played good football tonight.”

“I don’t necessarily think it was a statement game,” added quarterback Kevin Glenn. “I just think it was a game that we needed to win, being on the road (and) given the situation: Us coming off of a bye and what happened the last time we came off a bye.”

Saskatchewan beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37-20 on July 8 before going on its first bye week of the season. When the Roughriders returned from that week off, they were beaten 27-10 by the Calgary Stampeders on July 22.

The Roughriders didn’t allow that to happen Friday. They also won their second straight game against a West Division team — they downed the visiting B.C. Lions 41-8 on Aug. 13 — and won a road game in the West for the first time since Sept. 7, 2014, when they downed the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers 30-24.

The victory Friday improved Saskatchewan’s record this season to 4-4-0. It’s the first time that the Roughriders have had a record of exactly .500 since July 26, 2014, when they beat the Toronto Argonauts 37-9 to improve to 2-2-0. Saskatchewan went on to finish that season with a 10-8-0 record.

TORONTO — Week 12 rolls in with the first and only tripleheader of the season on Saturday as the second half of the 2017 season gets under way.

The Montreal Alouettes and BC Lions kick off the week on Friday night. The Lions are coming off a bye and will look to Travis Lulay to help pull out a win at home. The Lions have dropped to 5-5 and are sitting in the basement of the tough West Division. The Als, on the other hand, have sputtered as of late but are just three points out of first place in the East. Can the Lions snap their three-game losing skid or will the Alouettes get their first win on the road?

Then things head to Winnipeg for the start of Saturday’s tripleheader. If this week’s Banjo Bowl is anything like last week’s match between the Riders and Bombers, fans are in for a treat. The Riders have been one of the best teams in the West lately as Kevin Glenn has cruised his team to a 5-4 record. The Bombers, too, have been hot. This match between two rivals is must-see TV this weekend.

Things then move to Ottawa where the REDBLACKS host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In their first game with new head coach June Jones, the Tabbies found the win column for the first time this season. Keeping that momentum going this week will be key to getting a win and making up ground in the wide open East Division. They’ll have a tough task, however, as the REDBLACKS have won their last three contests – including one three weeks ago against the Tiger-Cats. Keeping the league’s leading passer Trevor Harris in check will be key for the Ticats if they hope to shut down Ottawa’s potent offence.

The final game of the weekend is on Saturday night as the Calgary Stampeders head to Edmonton to take on the Eskimos. These two teams met last week and the Stamps trampled the Esks in the Battle of Alberta. But this week things could change as Mike Reilly has his favourite target from last year, Derel Walker, back in the fold. But if anyone can shut down the Esks and their dangerous receiving corps, it’s the Stampeders. With a 8-1-1 record, Calgary is the one to beat this season. Can they continue to dominate this week?

Saskatchewan gets pounded by Winnipeg

The Roughriders’ winning streak ends in Winnipeg
WINNIPEG — The Saskatchewan Roughriders took a step in the wrong direction Saturday.

After three straight CFL victories, the Roughriders were beaten 48-28 by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before 33,134 patrons at Investors Group Field.

The loss dropped the Roughriders’ record to 5-5-0 and put them in fifth place in the West Division, two points back of the B.C. Lions (6-5-0). The Bombers improved to 8-3-0.

“We’ve got to find some level of consistency,” said Saskatchewan head coach-GM Chris Jones, whose team beat the Bombers 38-24 in Sunday’s Labour Day Classic at Mosaic Stadium.

“It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s kind of the medicine that they had to take last week and the medicine that the other two teams that we got after in the two weeks prior to that (had to take). It’s the same medicine — and it’s not fun to take.”

The Roughriders defeated the B.C. Lions 41-8 in Regina on Aug. 13 and then downed the host Edmonton Eskimos 54-31 on Aug. 25. Saskatchewan outplayed Winnipeg in the Labour Day Classic before succumbing in the rematch on Saturday.

“They executed and we didn’t play a full game from beginning to end,” Roughriders middle linebacker Henoc Muamba said. “We played good in some parts of the game, but not enough obviously to get the win and they made enough plays to win.

“Shout out to them; they did a good job, they played well in all three phases of the game and that was the difference.”

The Roughriders are to visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday, but Saskatchewan may face a change at quarterback.
