Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

The Glennon signing was horrible because it was $15M.

But that is cheap for a starting QB. It's all relative. The Marshall Plan wrote:The Glennon signing was horrible because it was $15M.

You could make a top 5 list of 2017 Worst FA signings, just using the Bears (and I wouldn't put Glennon at the top).
5) S Quintin Demps
A temporary solution with some veteran presence for a young secondary. He wasn't bad at either, it's just that they only got 3 games out of him for 5M, before breakage. You could call this one more unlucky than bad.
4) CB Marcus Cooper
Signed to be a hedge against Fuller's health, he got 8M guaranteed. By the end of the season, there were 4 guys playing ahead of him.
3) QB Mike Glennon
Bringing in a stopgap starter with some young upside was a good idea. But the price tag of 18.5M was high for someone that was secretly known to probably just be a 1 yr deal.
2) TE Dion Sims
Maybe also meant to be a stopgap starter with upside(?). Regardless, 10M guaranteed is not remotely the going rate for a backup blocking TE. Generated 15 catches for 180 yds on the year.
1) WR Markus Wheaton
Signed as a hedge against White's health for 6M guaranteed. White did go down and...Wheaton produced 3 catches in 11 games.
I'm still cautiously mild-to-moderately pro-Pace, but there's been a lot of bad FA money spent. He's either weak there or players really, really didn't want to come here and he had to overspend. If it's the latter, that may well change this year. If it's the former, he'd better learn, because the last stage of building a great team is judicious filling of holes with FAs.

I'm baffled as to why you think my post is directed toward you. It wasn't. I was just trying to be amusing as I hoped my use of smilies would suggest. I guess I failed.UOK wrote:What, are you saying I'm funny like a clown? Like I amuse you?Mikefive wrote:Hey! I'm watching Goodfellas right now. You don't like it? There's no way you're serious. Right?
He's quoting probably THE most famous line in Goodfellas. He was playing along with you. Did you actually watch the movie? lol

Thanks, now that song is going to be bouncing around in my head for the next month. Until you mentioned it I had forgotten all about that one.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote:"Bankok, Oriental setting, and the city don't know what the city is getting..."staleystarch wrote:No, I'm actually in Bangkok and I was actually in Dubai waiting for my connecting flight to Bangkok when I made my first post to this thread:-)docc wrote:..Thai porno...?staleystarch wrote:At the moment Bangkok got meRichie wrote:That's probably a top 5'er for me, and my favorite mafia film.Mikefive wrote:Hey! I had been awake almost 36 hrs and now have finally gotten a few hours sleep. I have true jet lag at the moment. I roughed it and had taken the airport raillink into the city and hen BTS (think chicago EL) to my hotel. As crazy as people drive here the order of people on the BTS amazed my. They get on and off and seat in almost military precision.
