Here are Barth's career statistics. His best year was 2014 with John Fox in Denver. The rest of the years, by NFL kicker standards, were complete and utter shit.

Reminder: the #Bears brought in Josh Lambo (and Roberto Aguayo) for a tryout on 10/4. Lambo has since signed with the Jaguars and hasn't missed a FG with a long of 51.
Including a game-tying kick to force overtime, and then the game-winner last week.

Do we think its possible that Fox is defending Barth? Example;

Pace: 'we're going to bring in some other kickers and take a look at them.'
Fox: 'That's fine, but I am confident that Connor is going to get things turned around.'

Wow...82% career FG %...and he still has a job in the NFL.

I mean does he have nudes of Goodell with a $3 hooking smoking a meth pipe?

You guys are confused about kicker stats.

Adam Vinatieri (4th in 2017 % for 10+ attempts, 20+ year career) has an 84.8 career average
Greg Zuerlein (tops in 2017 %) has an 82.4 career average
Grahame Gano (3rd in 2017) has an 81 career avg
Barth has an 82.8 career average

He's had lots of good years.
Unfortunately, 2 of his 3 poor ones have been the 2 years in Chicago.

And, while 40-49 should be converted more often than not, gimmie is an unfair exaggeration.
Looking at the same guys,

Vinatieri is 77% career from that range
Zuerlein is 85%
Barth is 76%
Gano is 79%

The Eagles have a linebacker who can out kick Barth.

Is he really the BEST available Pace?

I mean jesus how many gimme's to tie or win the game does a guy have to miss to get cut?
People need to really let Robbie Gould go, he wasn't good at the end of his Bears career and he was overpaid. The Bears need to find a kicker younger and better than Gould and Barth.

no

I disagree ... he had a bad season in the last year of his Bears career, but that 1 season should not negate all the good he did in the years prior

MitchTrubisky10 wrote:and he was overpaid.
guess you could argue that

well duh

in their attempts to do just that, they have found turds to polish into gold and have not been successful ... their post Gould plan B has been a failure

It's no secret that when kickers flame out and get cut, they tend to flourish with the next team. Gould had a bad year that cost the team games. He was making a lot of money to make those kicks.

Kickers get the yips. It happens. Once they start down that path, they seldom come back without a change of venue. A lot of kicking is mental. Much more precision than any other position on the field. As soon as they start questioning whether or not they are striking the ball in the right place, planting their foot in the right spot, or if their aim is off, or whatever. They are done. That's what happened to Gould, and that's what happened to Barth.

Shit, poor timing for me to have surgery on my leg! I could have been back for the playoffs but this season my chances are dashed.

Yeah, where's Andy Phillips. He wasn't very good in preseason, but whatever.

Too active on twitter, too much personality. Team wants somebody who is the human equivalent of a dowel rod.

They ave some dudes with personality. Long, Hicks, McPhee, Cohen to name a few. But I really don't understand how you handle the kicker position so poorly. I mean, it's one of those positions where you find a guy who can kick and just leave it alone until said guy gets the yips.

There are people in Chicago paid in real US dollars to find players to sign for this team, and they came up with Houston Prosinski and this guy.

Houston and Prosinski were outstanding pickups in terms of finding someone to walk in the door and play all your snaps, late in the season.

Santos would have been, except he wasn't fully healed yet. And there's a limit to how much medical expertise your personnel staff can have.

So how did Santos pass his physical if not fully healed? That's our training staff in full effect

That's the interesting part.

Did someone drop the ball? Who?

Or was he fully and appropriately vetted, and the Bears got screwed by Crazy Injury Luck again?

Apparently he was healthy enough to pass the physical but injured himself again in warmups.

Yup, Houston and Prosinski are pretty much perfect signings for us right now. I still think it was ridiculous to let Houston go without trying to restructure first but I fully admit there seems to be something I'm missing about the NFL and contract restructures. There are so many instances where the player makes less in his next contract and the team he leaves eats loads of dead cap. It makes zero sense but happens again and again.
