FSU didn’t have a super dynamic passing game, especially after Jordan Travis got hurt, but Keon Coleman is an absolute playmaker. 6’3” 215. And he returned punts, so you know he’s got wheels.

Did a lot of trades. Basically amounts to trading down from 9 for 28, 51, 81, fR3, fR4 and a some spare change

gave up 9, 142
got 28, 51, 84, 169, 170, 177, 195, 234, 251, fR3, fR4, 2fR5, fR6, 2fR7

NFL Mock Draft Database
* Tip: there's a weird glitch where, when it reports the trade summary at the end of the draft, sometimes it remembers the future picks that were involved and sometimes it doesn't. I wasn't sure at first if I was just confused and misremembering, but I've definitely confirmed it now. *

Draft strategy assumes at least an adequate DE2, WR2, C picked up in free agency

1 Caleb Williams QB | USC USC
6005 215 4.5
Hope: Great athlete who can see and read the field

28 Kamren Kinchens FS | Miami (FL) Miami (FL)TRADE
5112 205 4.5
Hope: Career starter who tackles and produces turnovers

51 Patrick Paul OT | Houston HoustonTRADE
6071 315 5.15
Again, didn't intend this, but was just the best available. If he disappoints, he's a strong backup. But, after a year, if you like him, you could also move Wright inside and Paul to RT. Or Paul to LT and flip Braxton for picks.

75 Zach Frazier C | West Virginia West Virginia
6025 315 5.25
Hope: Power, leverage, experience overcome meh agility, making a career starter, beginning in year 2

84 Jalen McMillan WR | Washington WashingtonTRADE
6005 190 4.45
110 Roman Wilson WR | Michigan Michigan
5104 185 4.3
Hope: Adequate WR3-5 in year 1, growing into quality WR3/4 or even WR2

122 Ben Sinnott TE | Kansas State Kansas State
6040 255 4.65
Hope: solid, well-rounded TE2, good receiver who can be used lots of ways

169 Tory Taylor P | Iowa IowaTRADE
6036 230
Hope: a career plus

170 Rasheen Ali HB | Marshall MarshallTRADE
5113 205 4.45
I see people are finally catching on. 173 is the highest ranking I've ever seen for him. Can take Foreman or Homer's spot. Upside to get much higher on the depth chart.

177 Mason McCormick G | South Dakota State South Dakota StateTRADE
6040 310 5.25
Hope: Stronger depth behind the Unavailable Twins, and maybe makes one expendable in 1-2 years.

195 Brevyn Spann-Ford TE | Minnesota MinnesotaTRADE
6065 265 4.75
Hope: Younger Marcedes Lewis lite. Huge blocker who isn't bad at catching

234 Eyabi Okie DE | Michigan MichiganTRADE
6041 245 4.6
Something of a headcase (5 teams in college), but an ex-5 star recruit, with good measurables and some production. Enough upside for a flyer.

251 Justin Rogers 1T | Auburn AuburnTRADE
6022 340 5.25
Hope: Effective backup

Excellent mock; love the double-down on TEs. That's precisely the way I hope we'll go if we fill out that corps through the draft.

PFN. One trade: 1.1 (Caleb Williams) to New England for 1.3, 2.34, 3.68, 2025 1st, 2025 2nd.

Let's say our big FA signings are S, swing tackle and IOL. With a rotational DE or two and the usual end-of-the rotation shuffle of WRs and RBs and such.

1.3: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU.
He's got more to work on than Williams or Maye, but from what I've seen it's all easily correctable if he's got his head screwed on straight. Which he seems to. And then, watch out.

1.9: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia.
What's better: MHJ against a CB and a safety, or Bowers one-on-one with a LB or safety? Yeah, the answer is probably still MHJ, but not by much. Bowers lets Kmet run the routes he likes best while becoming a young QB room's best friend.

2.34: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon.
Because.

3.68: Bralen Trice, DE, Washington.
To be honest, I took Darius Robinson. That'll never happen, so let's say Bralen Trice, who went two picks later. Still, another big, athletic DE.

3.75: Jalen McMillan, WR, Washington.
Athletically gifted and fast, but plays like a guy who needs to run great routes and catch everything cleanly, too. Similar profile to MHJ, really, just a smaller size advantage.

4.110: Braden Fiske, DT, Florida St.
I'm a bigger fan of Justin Jones than most, but adding Fiske would be like sticking a lightly wounded wild boar in the middle of our line.

4.122: Isaiah Adams, IOL, Illinois
He seems solid. He's an Illinois guy. We're still shoring up our IOL. 'Nuf for me.
EDIT: He's also #1 on the CFL Scouting Bureau list. I suggest you let that one marinate.

5.142: Rasheen Ali, RB, Marshall
Why not? I love his balance and vision; while he's not the Weeble that Kareem Hunt was in his prime, he's similar. And faster.
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

I've already played through a lot of scenarios when we use the first pick for a QB. The 9th pick usually includes interesting players for whom there are realistic trade offers. I would definitely trade the 9th pick.

I find it interesting to trade from 9 to the middle of the first round. An additional 2nd and 3rd is certainly realistic here. The middle of the first round usually still includes top DE but also WR Coleman.

Trading to the end of the first round would primarily mean more future picks. I'm not sure whether a double trade down, into the middle and then to the end is realistic.

Here's a nice example in which I was able to address important needs. There was only one trade down with the Jaguars grabbing Bowers. You always have to keep in mind that there would be another pick for Fields (for example for a OC/OG).

Did a dual draft on PFN and NFL Mock Draft Database, was able to grab the same players and make the trade with NE on both sites. This was a run it back with Fields version.

3. Marvin Harrison Jr., WR Ohio State
18. Byron Murphy II, DT Texas
34. Graham Barton, OG Duke
49. Adisa Isaac, EDGE Penn State
68. Calen Bullock, S USC
75. Max Melton, CB Rutgers
110. Jaheim Bell, TE Florida State
122. MarShawn Lloyd, RB USC
142. Tory Taylor, P Iowa

2025 NE 1st
2025 NE 2nd

No stud DE in the first round, some depth later on. In keeping with the NFL today and contrary to past Bears drafts, almost entirely offensive players. Either keep Fields while McCarthy sits and learns or trade Fields for a 2nd and ? Beef up the OL even move.

Fanspeak/Goodberry Consensus board

1.9 for 1.31, 2.17, 2.31, 3.16, 3.30, 4.15 (double trade down)
3.16 for 4.3, 5.2, 6.4, 7.11
4.15 for 4.29, 5.22

1: R1 P1 QB Drake Maye - UNC
6043 230 4.6
Whichever one, I don't have a preference right now

31: R1 P31 FS Kamren Kinchens - Miami FL
5112 205 4.5
Hope: Career starter who tackles and produces turnovers

49: R2 P17 DE Chris Braswell - Alabama
6032 255 4.55
Hope: Starts as 3rd outside rusher on pass downs, maybe grows into 2nd and/or everydown player

63: R2 P31 T/G Kiran Amegadjie - Yale
6050 325 5.1
Should at least be a starter inside or high-end backup outside, maybe an outside starter

75: R3 P11 WR Johnny Wilson - Florida State
6061 235 4.6
WR4 to start with, ideally working his way up to starting, eventually

94: R3 P30 TE Cade Stover - Ohio State
6036 250 4.7
Well-rounded TE2

103: R4 P3 CB/FS Cam Hart - Notre Dame
6026 205 4.45
Depth with upside for either spot

110: R4 P10 WR/PR Ainias Smith - Texas A&M
5092 200 4.35
Possibly pushes Velus out, since he's got the speed and can do the punt returning Velus can't

122: R4 P22 LB Jaylan Ford - Texas
6022 240 4.65
Takes Cole's job on ST and hopefully has more to offer as a backup

129: R4 P29 G/C Beaux Limmer - Arkansas
6044 300 5.15
More OL depth badly needed

138: R5 P2 P Tory Taylor - Iowa
6036 230
Hope: a career plus

145: R5 P9 TE Brevyn Spann-Ford - Minnesota
6065 265 4.75
Hope: Younger Marcedes Lewis lite. Huge blocker who isn't bad in the pass game at all

158: R5 P22 SS Kitan Oladapo - Oregon State
6021 220 4.55
Right now there's Brisker + bodies at S. Hope: Career backup who you can use a little creatively with his size

179: R6 P4 HB Rasheen Ali - Marshall
5113 205 4.45
Whether he just misses camp, or you IR him for some/all of the year, still totally worth it

230: R7 P11 1T Justin Rogers - Auburn
6022 340 5.25
Hope: Effective backup

I find it weird that so many are mocking a WR to us in the first (in some way, shape or form).

We have Moore. Do we really need two #1 receivers? And, wide receivers are known to be...well, let's be nice and say, "Kinda moody". Aren't you just asking for locker room friction if you draft another #1, just a year after acquiring Moore?

From Sports Mockery. I like except for Fiske, I'd grab another husky nasty OG for insurance:

Trade Fields and a 3rd to Pitt for 1-20
Trade 1-1 to Washington for 1-2, 2-40 and a 2025 1st
Trade 1-2 to NE for1-3, 2-34, and a 2025 2nd

1-3: MHJ, WR, OSU
1-9: JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan
1-20: Jackson Powers-Austin, C, Oregon
2-34: Darius Robinsin, DE, Missouri
Trade 2-40 to Cincy for 2-49, a 4th, and a 5th
2-39: Brandon Fiske, DT, FSU
4th: Kalen King, CB, Penn State
Marshawn Lloyd, RB, USC
Jadeyn Hicks, S, Washington State
5th: Cornelious Johnson, WR, Michigan
Theo Johnson, TE, Penn State

I don't see any point doing these without taking Caleb Williams 1st anymore....I'd be shocked if he is not the Bears' starting QB this fall. I would of liked an Edge somewhere, but there were no good values whenerver I was on the board. Felt good loading up on Day 2 picks from Detroit for #9.

Pro Football Network

1. Caleb Williams, QB USC
29. Byron Murphy II, DT Texas
61. Xavier Legette, WR South Carolina
73. Sedrick Van Pran, OC Georgia
75. Cole Bishop, S Utah
92. Audric Estime. RB Notre Dame
123. Ricky Pearsall, WR Florida
143. Jared Wiley, TE TCU

Nice! There are lots of good Senior Bowl performers in this group! I like Legette despite his measuring smaller.

I think you want 3 play-makers so opponents can't just put their best defender on one and scheme the other away. Probably Caleb/Justin can count #2 but Kmet, Johnson, and Herbert are good players at their positions who aren't really guys who will always win 1-on-1s against average defenders. Considering the lack of even average talent at the WR position, it makes sense to add to that group.

Plus there's like 1 good TE and no good RBs in this draft so WR it is!

Well there are currently only three receivers on the roster... so they are gonna have to do something.

I'm not gonna pound the table AGAINST taking a WR...but at #9? I dunno. I'm sure they'll add a WR in free agency, and probably even re-sign Mooney.

I'd be happy with something going on where we could get Harrison, or stay put and get Odunze...but to be honest, if we're going for another offensive weapon (this, of course, being for Williams, presumably)--I'd be happier trading up for Bowers.

Highly, highly doubt Mooney returns to the Bears. He's going to sign with the Chiefs on day 1 of free agency, I have no doubt. Go back to Nagy and play with Mahomes, probably on a smaller contract than he'd get elsewhere.

I'd be extremely surprised if Odunze, Bowers, Nabers, or especially Harrison Jr. would be available at 9. Something would have to come up right before the draft, be it injury in combine, character concerns, etc for that to happen. The benefit of a run on WRs is that it leaves the best offensive linemen in the draft available. And if the opposite happens (a run on tackles), who knows. Maybe Odunze or Nabors is there. Bowers feels like he's going top 10, and I feel further that his stock will continue to rise to the point where he may even go top 5.

I think one of the receivers (not MHJ) or Bowers will be there. Assuming 3 QBs go in the first 8, then that means the other 5 would have to be the 4 WRs and Bowers. I just can't see that - someone's going to take a tackle or a defensive player.

Two QBs (Williams & Maye), two OTs (Alt & Fashanu), two WRs (Harrison Jr & Nabers) is your top 6 in whatever order and whoever drafts in those spots. #7 is where it gets interesting.

I like Odunze a lot, but it's clear to me he is WR3 in this draft. Now I think WR3 is better than, say, DT1 or ED1 or CB1 in this draft, as well as OT3, so I expect Odunze goes in the top 8; but if one is going to make it to #9, he's the one.

Bowers is a fine prospect. The question on him is twofold — how long does it take him to acclimate to TE in the NFL (he's a move TE, not an inline one, so that may help) and does he run well enough to justify a top 10 pick? If he's George Kittle with better speed, he just might be.

Exactly. The draft never unfolds as a BPA affair...

He's very fast, for his size. The whole "how long will it take" thing is a big question mark. He'll still be a top ten pick. He's too freakish not to be.

A nice and also realistic one. I'm also a fan of trading the 9th. In my mocks I also often come up with Murphy later in the first round. Would certainly be a nice addition to Billings. Take the best player on your board...
Legette, Van Pran and Bishop also keep falling into my hands.

I think you have to stay realistic with the mocks. I consider the multiple trade backs from e.g. 1 to 2 and then to 3 to be impossible. The simulations sometimes suggest things that cannot be taken seriously.

The 'keep Justin' mock draft with trade backs with Washington, NE, Tennessee, and Cincy in the 1st round (which would be unprecendented, as would trading #1 for consecutive years) for a bit of future capitol and lots of 2nd and 3rd rounders. Firepower on both sides of the line. Only disappointment was the Seahawks grabbing the Oregon center at 16 but Zach Frazier isn't a bad consolation prize.

It's time for the first post-combine edition.
As usual, most were pretty good Combine performers. Although I count 9 I've drafted in the past and not that many 'suddenly out of nowhere' choices.

Fanspeak (Buffalo Fambase)

TRADES

Fields to Atlanta for 2.11
1.9 for 1.14, 2.13, then 2.13 for 3.2, 3.7 (net 3.2, 3.7)
3.11 for 3.27, 5.33, 6.25, 6.43
6.25 fot 7.8, 7.30

1: R1 P1 QB Caleb Williams - USC
6005 214 4.5?
Let's hope this one works out

14: R1 P14 DE Laiatu Latu - UCLA
6046 259 4.64
Latu getting most of the pass snaps and Walker most of the run makes a formidable DE opposite Sweat

43: R2 P11 S Tyler Nubin - Minnesota
6012 199 4.5?
I'm down to 2 FSs in the draft

66: R3 P2 LB Payton Wilson - NC State
6037 233 4.43
Could start cheaply next year, possibly at either position

71: R3 P7 WR Ricky Pearsall - Florida
6010 189 4.41
I was eyeing some WRs at 43, but they all went. And came close to missing out in R3, too. DJ, a temp vet, and Pearsall is respectable and an upgrade over last year.

91: R3 P27 TE Theo Johnson - Penn State
6061 259 4.57
Big, fast backup. Won't have to produce heavily right away.

110: R4 P10 FS Dadrion Taylor-Demerson - Texas Tech
5103 197 4.41
And I took both of them. This gives us a little depth at S, which was nonexistent last year.

122: R4 P22 NT McKinnley Jackson - Texas A&M
6014 326 5.26
Backs up Billings for 1-2 yrs before taking over.

145: R5 P9 WR Luke McCaffrey - Rice
6015 198 4.46
McCaffrey and Scott provide the depth. Kind of green from the position switch, but again, won't have to be counted on right away.

169: R5 P33 P Tory Taylor - Iowa
6035 229
Gill is bad.

218: R6 P43 HB Rasheen Ali - Marshall
5112 206 4.45?
Injury just makes him cheaper. We can go with the 3 we have for the entire year, if need be.

227: R7 P8 OT Garret Greenfield - South Dakota St
6056 311 5.22
Would have liked OT depth sooner, but didn't have the picks or guys in Day 3 I like. Borom is on his last rookie deal year and nothing promising on PS, either.

249: R7 P30 G/C Jacob Monk - Duke
6030 308 5.09
May not have room except on PS, but that's fine, since Kramer's the only interior guy there of note. Has athletic upside.

Based on what we've done so far, where we need to shore up the roster and positional value at the pick, I give you:

Chicago Bears
1 Caleb Williams QB | USC

22 Jackson Powers-Johnson IOL | Oregon (Mitchell and Worthy were available, but liked the value of Powers Johnson better and hoped some 2nd tier WRs would fall in the 2nd

50 Patrick Paul OT | Houston (Huge man, posible starter but nice swing tackle for the time being. Mini run on WRs made this a luxury pick by value)

57 Devontez Walker WR | North Carolina (A little raw with ability to stretch the defense.)

75 Adisa Isaac EDGE | Penn State (Poles needs a dynamic pass rusher. Run stoppers are still available in FA)

93 Brenden Rice WR | USC (Good route runner with dependable hands.)

110 Dominick Puni IOL | Kansas (Powerful lineman who has the time to develop for an interior spot)

141 Luke McCaffrey WR | Rice (I don't think there's a mock that I won't take McCaffery just because I liked watching his dad in Denver)

169 Josh Newton CB | TCU (questions about Newton dropped him to the 5th round. Better at press man, but might find a home playing special teams for now)

219 Devin Culp TE | Washington (I think he showed some speed and catch ability in the combine. Inconsistencies aside, Doubt he's here this late, but I'll take him if he is)

Traded 9, 122 for 22, 50, 53 reasoning: Alt and Verse available, Nabers and Odunze off the board. 2 2nd rounders looked good at this point.
Traded 53 for 57, 89, (25-R3)
Traded 89 for 93, 135, 165
Traded 135 for 141, (25-R5, R5 -yes 2 2025 round 5)
Traded 165 for 169, 219, (25-R6)
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

35. Darius Robinson, EDGE Missouri
75. Xavier Legette, WR South Carolina
104. Blake Corum, RB Michigan
122. Tanor Bortolini, OC Wisconsin

Here's my Hoog Draft after FA period has settled:

1 (1)- Caleb Williams, QB, USC- I am settled in at this pick now and comfortable with it now. I trust Ryan and Flus have done their homework.

1(9)- Dallas Turner, DE, Bama- I looked at a trade down but just can't pass on this kid. If he's there, which I think he will be, you take him.

*Here is where Poles pulls some rabbits out of his hat. Trade one is 3(75) to Houston for 3(86), 4(123), and 6(188). Trade 2 is 3(86) to Baltimore for 3(93) for 4(130), 6(218), and 7(228).

3(93)- Blake Fisher, OT, ND- big body who can be groomed as our next swing tackle or more.

4(122)- Tanor Bortolini, OL, Wisconsin- love this guy and he showed out athleticly at the combine. Can play OG or OC in the future. Great depth then great starter.

4(123)- Theo Johnson, TE, PSU- dude showed his athleticism at the combine and definately wasn't used enough at PSU. He will be a good compliment to Kmet.

4(130)- Ryan Flourney, WR, SE Mizz State- good size, good speed, excellent hands. Small school gem.

6(188)- Eric Watts, DE, UConn- Larger end who has athleticism but had a down senior year after really nice Jr year. Good depth and development guy.

6(218)- Bub Means, WR, Pitt- underrated WR who has really nice speed, great hands, and tenacity. Really like this guy and thought 4th round but he is consistently shown available in the 6th for some reason?

7(228)- Logan Lee, DT, Iowa- showed some athleticism at the combine, has good size for an inside pass rush guy. Took a chance on him.

PFF:

Trades:

Colts get #9 Bears get #15, #46, #151 and #234

Saints get #151, Bears get #158 and 241

1: Caleb Williams QB USC
15: Laiatu Latu EDGE UCLA
46: Xavier Legette WR South California
75: Jonathan Brooks RB Texas
122: Maason Smith DT LSU
158: Zak Zinter OG Michigan
234: Mark Perry S TCU
241: Tory Taylor P Iowa

I don’t think we’re in the race for MHJ and probably not Nabers and Odunze.

Honestly I think Legette is on a par with Nabers and Odunze.
(26/09/2023) Winner of the inaugural

I liked this one way too much.

I like McMillan as a developmental WR.

Nubin could push for playing time.

Fiske and Robinson solidify the DL with stout bodies but yet capable of generating a decent pass rush.

Wilson was kind of a throw in but could definitely be a red zone weapon.

Both guards would possibly eliminate Carter or Kramer or someone of the multitude of crap bottom end lineman from the 53.

Rosengarten would potentially make Borom expendable, trade bait, or someone else.

That is pretty damn close to the draft I put up in the big board thread. Essentially you are trading Verse for Robinson, Fiske, and a couple others. That is why I really prefer a trade down at 9, I think Robinson is not that much for a drop from Turner or Verse.
