I bet whoever takes the number pays him or somethingHisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 7:28 pmI guess he lost the game of beer pong.
In all seriousness, I hope he didn't just give it up, or was forced to, without compensation. He's a 4th round pick stuck behind two WR1s on the roster. He's not earning big money and his chances to do so are limited.
New Bears numbers, so far

Doesn't sound like something Poles would ask or force anyone to do. It's more likely the team quietly slipped him a bonus to make #13 available. I'm still curious who will be wearing it. Does the vet defer to the hot new rookie QB or is it the reverse? Knowing Vegas there's probably a prop bet on it out there somewhere.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 7:28 pmI guess he lost the game of beer pong.

Posted in the Caleb thread too, but NFL shop isn't allowing custom jersey orders with 13 Allen or 18 Williams. Other combos with those names and any other number are allowed.
So there's your numbers. But gotta wait until April 26 or 27 if you want it.

If this article is correct Caleb will switch to 18.

So here's a challenge: Name the 5 QBs who have worn #18 for the Bears.

Plenty of Bears have worn 18 including Tonyan just last year, that's why the challenge is just for QBs.

That's the one that immediately sprang to my mind Yogi.
The other two predate Tomczak and are so obscure I'd be amazed if anyone gets them without looking it up!

The remaining two:
Joe Barnes (1974)
3 games, 2 of 9 for 29 yards and an INT for a staggering passer rating of 0.9!
Ronnie Knox (1957)
1 game with no stats.
Told you they were obscure!

Color me jaded, but I sure hope that Caleb doesn't get number #13:
Come to think of it, I hope that Keenan doesn't get it either:
Ugh, maybe we should just retire the number in infamy. Can we do that? lol

You know, if true, then this could explain why we have sucked for so long.
We've retired all the good numbers!

Given that they haven't given 13 to Allen yet, I think they will be holding it for CW.
Plus the more I think about it, I think the plan is to let Allen walk at year's end. They traded a 4th round pick for him to give CW a stud duo at WR to help him get ready for the NFL. He's far more valuable to CW's development than what you would assume you'd get from a 4th round player.
They make the trade to give CW the best chance for success.
Allen it appears is wanting to GET PAID. They will need to pay DJ in the near future and he is younger so that money will be earmarked for him. They can let Allen walk and have realistic expectations that the contract he signs will be LARGE. Large enough that they can bank on it being a 2nd or 3rd round comp pick. Poles has done a very good job on the roster, so he should be able to be selective in FA so they don't waste that.
They could turn an early 2024 4th round pick into a late 2026 2nd round pick and help CW out a ton his first year. Great return on investment.

I believe that the highest comp pick you can get is third round. But point taken.

Moore's current contract runs through 2025. If they plan to extend him which is almost certain they'll do it in 2025 which could lower his cap hit then but if not he's still on the books for just $16.05 mil. So Poles could conceivable extend Allen at least through 2025 if they can come to an agreement on an amount. Poles may offer 3 years out after two just to spread the signing bonus out longer.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 9:04 am Given that they haven't given 13 to Allen yet, I think they will be holding it for CW.

What Poles does with that #9 pick may have a lot to do with his plans for Allen.

Even more reason NOT to let Allen have it. Talk about jinx. Loved Johnny Knox though.
Other Bear receivers to wear #13: Scott for one year, Pringle for one year, Rodney Adams for one year, Wright for one year, and Rashad Ross for one year....
Yeah, let's retire the number in infamy and not let Allen anywhere near it.
