Let me preface this with that I'm by no means a college basketball expert at all. I lightly follow the Illini and watch the occasional game that comes on TV of non-big ten teams. College sports rarely peaks my interest, at least until mid march. March Madness is perhaps one of the most entertaining times of year for a sports fan, regardless of your level of fandom towards NCAA basketball. I tend to learn about most of the teams in a 3 day crash course, then fill out a handful of brackets before finally deciding on one, which I then disperse throughout any online, work, friend or family pools. If any of you guys are interested in doing a pick'em challenge or something lemme know, only a couple more days until it gets going so chime in!

yeah well, I'm with you on that

though the tournament is always generally fun to watch, many of the teams that actually make the tournament are teams I will be seeing for the first time in their tournament games ... so on my picks, I generally just pick lower seeds for first round upsets, then stick with the higher seeds in the later rounds

except this year ... this year, Duke is a #1 seed in one of the brackets, and I have seen enough Duke games to know they are pretenders rather than contenders

(now watch the f*ckers win it all)

Well my bracket this year is perhaps the most researched I've ever done. I've only ever predicted one correct champion for a share of a measely pool, but this year I think I'm on to something.

Final 4, no surprises: Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Syracuse, all #1's
Kansas over Kentucky in the final

But I've got a ton of upsets in the first round, this years brackets were setup for a bunch of upsets, so i'm hoping to have an exciting, yet accurate first weekend.

sorry ... got real busy at work yesterday and I forgot to log on and sign in when I got home

no big deal ... I'm already 0-1 since I took Winthrop in the play-in game

can I still sign in today?

my Final Four are Georgetown, Xavier, Texas and Louisville, with Texas winning the final

I was able to sign up for the group just minutes ago, so you should be able to as well.

Baaaaaaaaaaaad idea.

Quote:
But don't pick all top seeds: 2008 marked the first time all four No. 1 seeds reached the Final Four. Prior to that, the most No. 1 seeds to make the Final Four was three, and even that has occurred just three times (1993, 1997, 1999). Twenty-five of the 31 Final Fours since seeding began have featured one or two top regional seeds (80.6 percent).

Kansas has the toughest road, but has the nations best overall team.

Kentucky has the most talented players, albeit freshmen, but they're too damned good to lose to anyone outside of West Virginia.

Duke has the easiest path to get to the dance of any of the #1's. unless they absolutely wet the bed against the much lesser teams in their region, they should get to the final 4.

Syracuse is probably the biggest stretch of them all based on the health of their big man and the competitive chaos in the west region, but my bracket worked out in their favor, and unless gonzaga or kansas state can topple them, they should have a clear road to the show.
