That's the kind of stat that makes all thought of trading the pick fly out of the window. Beautiful.

Re: What would it take for you to move from the 1.1 pick
I think the dynamics of the NFL make it pretty much impossible for Poles to trade the pick. If Williams ends up being good (doesn't even have to be great) and we don't get playoff success very soon, Poles loses his job. Whereas if Williams flops Poles likely gets another go, absent other factors. T...

Brock Purdy at 7th. Hoo boy! 17-4 with a 7.2 TD percentage.

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?
I agree with @dplank here that opportunities for late-round picks are pretty slim. I have my list of roster “locks” below and this doesn't include the guys who are very good special teams players. Offense (19) WR (4) DJ, Keenan, TS, VJJ OL (7) Brax, Tev, Nate Davis, Wright, Ryan Bates, Coleman Shel...

Nah. We've got to hope that the defence is get to the playoffs good enough already so an expensive one year rental doesn't work. He either doesn't play that well and it's a waste or he does and he's after a final payday going into likely decline years for an edge rusher. Then potential scheme fit is...

Re: What value would Braxton Jones have?
I'll never understand the rush to replace Braxton. If he was picked at like #20 everyone would be talking about how the Bears stole him. He's arguably the 2nd or 3rd best OT to come out of that draft. I get that the probability of the best value for pick #9 is likely a tackle, but that just means a...

Re: IOL thoughts
I know PFF is PFF but they said about Davis when we signed him: "Regardless of where Davis plays, the Bears know he will perform as an above-average starter. He’s been a top-25 NFL guard for three years in a row. Their incumbents’ positional flexibility gives them options." Poles obviously...

Surely this is the time to take a gamble with Jenkins, try to get him to take less but early given the injury concerns. Not sure it's Poles' style though.

Re: "The NFL QB Who Didn't Give A ****"
What would Cutler have done with an offensive line? Nothing different. They did a major study of QBs under pressure and not under pressure and how they performed (not special now, but cutting edge at the time, IIRC). Everybody showed notable differences under pressure vs not. Except one. Cutler was...

Re: 2024 NFL Free Agency chatter, there will be punch and pie
One of the best corners in the game traded for a very small return. We keep seeing this happen, its an interesting recent trend. Contacts (timing of them + projected future cost) is driving this, these players are all far better than the returns they got in trade: Allen, Fields, Snead, etc The top ...

But what does that do? It isn't guaranteed to begin with. Bagent ran Getsy's offence adequately in about the worst circumstances you can imagine (for clarity, I mean not getting a full offseason as a backup and then being thrown in at short notice, it would have been worse if, say, Moore had been i...

Re: What Bagent is up to
If something goes south with Williams, does playing someone like Bryan Hoyer or Josh Dobbs over Bagent or Rypien really do anything? Yes, if they can run the offense better. Although I'm not necessarily opposed to letting Bagent have first try. But what does that do? It isn't guaranteed to begin wi...

Firstly, gutted this guy wasn't around to play against Peanut. Anyway, I think both teams overpaid. It's madness imo. Just pick up a guy off the scrapheap and feed them opportunities and you'll get similar results, or close enough. If you need a #1 then it's different, or if you think you're paying...

LOL....I am relaxed. Truth be known I have visions with either CW or JF playing QB and I could just as easily debate from the other perspective but it's been so well covered I just wanted to present other ideas that I believe make sense. I trust Poles to make the best decision possible for his team...

Re: 2024 NFL Free Agency chatter, there will be punch and pie
I just can't get that worked up about not having a 2nd wideout when we've got DJ Moore and Cole Kmet. Trubisky ended up with Kendall Wright as his leading receiver despite only starting 4 games. 4 back to back years where we went Hester, Hester, Knox, Knox as our leading receivers. Even Fields rook...

Re: 2024 NFL Free Agency chatter, there will be punch and pie
I'm kind of fine with not having secured a splashy player at WR2 or DE2. We've got to replace Justin Jones' production but some of that will hopefully come from a draft pick and some from continued growth from Dexter (plus maybe Pickens). Jones had 22 pressures from 739 snaps whereas Dexter had 17 ...

I think he's our Kenneth Walker III I think Roschon Johnson will be our (slower) Zach Charbonnet but could be RB3 Curious what the role will be for Khalil Herbert... Still…I guess? Averages about 600 yards a season…about the same YPG and YPC as Herbert. He’s a better receiver out of the backfield a...

Re: Bears sign RB D'Andre Swift to 3yr, $24M contract
I'm generally in the draft a RB each year camp. That said, this year's draft is not particularly strong at RB, and when that happens in a draft class it usually means guys get overdrafted relative to their value, commonly by about a round. So guys with a R4 grade wind up going in R3, R5 guys in R4,...

Something about RDR2 didn't click for me. I think it's a Rockstar game thing, perhaps that they're designed for consoles, maybe the "wanted" bar that just feels too gamified and breaks immersion. I still put a silly amount of hours into it though. Quite enjoying Death Stranding at the mom...

Re: Bears trade 5th rd pick to Bills for OL Ryan Bates
dplank Agree we still need a punter but, um, if you need a punter you simply just go and get a punter. For some reason it's weirdly difficult to evaluate but that doesn't come down to whether you have the picks or cap space to get one. As an aside, interesting to see that a higher end rugby player ...

Re: Allen Robinson cut by Pittsburgh
If I remember correctly Pace put a RFA tag on Meredith which would have paid him about $2m for a year and the Saints then offered him a 2 year deal for $10m which the Bears didn't match. I think a lot of us felt that he was worth a punt at $5m a year, especially given how ridiculously thin the WR c...

Re: Bears trade 5th rd pick to Bills for OL Ryan Bates
Theoretically, of course. What I was getting at with that story was that less rosy takes on things always get the resistance from hometown fans who don't want to hear it (the more important it is, the stronger the resistance). Then, after time passes and the emotional attachment to the situation is...
