Re: Preseason Week 2 // Bears (1-0) @ Bills

Not feeling the urge to pick the whole game apart, but three things stood out. Williams looked terrific, all things considered. A lot to build on. Odunze, though, needs a lot of work on his route running. I've noticed that in the little clips from practice that we've seen, and I noticed it today. Mo...

Re: Weight Training Program?

I'm not quite DP's size, but I'm 6'2 245. I ballooned up to about 280 between 2020 and late 2023...but I've dropped about 40lbs in the last 7-8 months. Covid was hard on me. Gyms were closed and all I did was perfect my BBQ skills. I also drank and metric shit ton of beer because I didn't have shit...

Re: Preseason Week 1 // Bears v. Texans

Yeah, if Rypien challenges Bagent--and he could--it won't be on the basis of last night's performance. What we saw was a five-year veteran who knows this OC and this system from last season. That's not nothing, but at this point it ain't much to go by.

Re: Spring/Summer Concerts

Thanks, guys. Bringing it back on topic, an old college friend has encouraged me to have a Hot Girl Summer, which I'm sure would be easier for her than for me. The closest I'll likely get is catching X on their last-ever tour (Chicago's the only sold-out show, which makes sense since everyone but DJ...

Re: Spring/Summer Concerts

That's about the size of it. Got a divorce brewing, too, so I'd probably gotten into my cups while trying to figure out how to keep our home. Still no reason to douse the board in my bile; sorry to all. Sorry to hear it. I'm afraid to ask, but what's the custody outlook? 50/50, with me as custodial...

Re: 2023-2024 Season - Welcome to the Bedard era

Yeah, it wasn't a commentary on the quality of the acquisitions (Brossoit is a significant upgrade, yes), more on the timeline they have. But it does lend the prospect of keeping guys at Rockford until they're ready, rather than until they're needed. Fair enough. Gotcha. I'm probably a bit high on ...

Re: 2023-2024 Season - Welcome to the Bedard era

Some of the 'hawks moves in FA were curious to me. A lot of guys close to 30 (Bertuzzi, Teravainen) or older (Brossoit, Martinez, Maroon, Smith). I guess the intent is to show, not tell, the young guys how to win. We'll see how it works out. Brossoit was a massive upgrade from Soderblom and a bridg...

This post is interesting because it has equal amount of great and awful in it. Usually when there are posts like this, I check the timestamp to see how much alcohol was involved at the time. 2:11am suggests someone was feeling sporty when they posted. That's about the size of it. Got a divorce brew...

Re: 2023-2024 Season - Welcome to the Bedard era

No Demidov, but I still loved our draft. Tons of speed and athleticism, lots of guys with long runways, a terrific RHD, and two forwards I really liked. Boisvert is a 200-foot player who's been boxing competitively since he was 8, and he's not the tougher of the two: Vanacker's just a smart, violent...

Re: Spring/Summer Concerts

Find out who's playing cool music near you. That's literally all there is to it. The fun stuff is the developing stuff. I live in Seattle. The whole grunge scene wouldn't have happened without southside Chicagoans. No SubPop, no Soundgarden, no scene. The kids here still would've had fun, and I have...

Re: Kevin Warren

Yeah, despite its medieval form of government, Chicago's pretty great. Someone I used to know back in NYC, a Brit, noticed that NYC and LA seemed super-eager to show newcomers what they were all about, while Chicago just did its thing in its own way and let visitors make up their own minds. One expa...

Re: Kevin Warren

I had some hopes for Warren, but by now I think my optimism was mostly based on him being Not Phillips. He was the Vikings' chief legal officer and CAO when they got their stadium deal...but not their VP for Stadium Development. That was Les Bagley. Ground broke on the new stadium two years before W...

No Celebrini for us, but if Demidov had played in NA last year, or even if he'd been playing the right minutes at the right level in Russia, I think there's an honest conversation about who goes first. Whenever I try to imagine how he'll fit in with the rest of the first line and ask myself "Wh...

Re: The 2024 Draft

Amegadjie's mom is from Cameroon and his dad's from Togo or Benin, I forget which. Both Francophone countries (I conflated his background and Odunze's in the Discord discussion, but his dad lived in France for a long time, so it's got to be one of those thin countries between Anglophone Ghana and N...

Re: 2024 Draft: Is This Our Greatest Draft Ever?

1983 was pretty darned good... Jimbo Covert Willie Gault Mike Richardson Dave Duerson Tom Thayer Richard Dent Mark Bortz And none of those players also involved paying an exorbitant salary which come along with Sweat and Allen. On top of that, Finks added .75 Hall of Famers a year throughout his ca...

Re: The 2024 Draft

My only hope for Tevin is that he plays so well and is healthy, he becomes impossible to let go. Maybe we'll cut Davis after this coming season and use that savings to extend Tevin. But then you still have Jones coming due the following season and Wright the year after.... :( It might just come dow...

Re: The 2024 Draft

Just a quick nod to how international this class is. Odunze's grandfather is from Nigeria, and in at least one interview he's said something like "well, you know Ibos, we such-and-so." And his mom's family is from Utah, which sometimes seems like another country. Amegadjie's mom is from Ca...

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

Not sure how much Iowa football any of you guys could stand last year, but for what it's worth, Taylor's a different kind of punter. He's legitimately got a lot of different approaches to the ball and spins it in different ways depending on the situation to help his coverage team. Kind of like Willi...

Four picks, three starters (Odunze's going to start at least a couple of games this year) and one extremely promising developmental guy. We'd have been happy with that result from seven or eight picks.

Re: R4 P122: Tory Taylor, P - Iowa

In some drafts, this would've been a reach. In 2024, the late fourth round is where everyone seemed to start picking RBs and Canadian linemen. Instead of a dart throw, we got a guy whose upside is perennial All Pro. Sure, he's a punter, but he's the only guy picked nearly this late in the draft who ...

Re: My Guy for the 2024 Draft

Congratulations Karhu, your TE beat out "my guy." Would you still favor Reiman if you knew you could get Theo this much later? It was a weird third round. I wouldn't have considered either guy over Amegadjie, but I thought Reiman was a good pick for the Cardinals. Especially since he thin...

Re: Day 2

The Sweat pick went for Cooper DeJean to the Eagles. Terrific player, but one we didn't really need.

The best part? Green Bay wanted him badly, and bailed out immediately after Philly jumped them. Then a ton of other CBs flew off the board.
