Re: Nagy optimism

The point of this thread was to push a little Nagy optimism heading into the season. He may very well still fail, but watching it turn into a Mitch apology tour is frustrating. Mitch is gone, his tenure was beyond any shadow of doubt a failure, why is there any loyalty/need to defend him still? It’s...

Re: Nagy optimism

QBR weights TD/INT pretty heavily in it's calculation, so the fact that the defense created a league leading 36 turnovers which very frequently placed our offense in enemy territory as a starting point clearly helped boost Mitch's QBR. And then you combine that with rookie Nagy and his zany red zone...

Re: Bears officially submit bid for Arlington

I hate the idea, but I'm an out of towner who comes in for 1 game a year so my opinion matters little. I love staying downtown, hitting Geno's East and hanging out at Mother Hubbards for college gameday, chilling at the pier for a bit then riding the ferry over to the game. I suppose I can still do ...

Re: Excited Delirium Over Fields

Mitch said in his first presser with Buffalo that he wanted a place where he’d have a chance to compete for a job, but no one wanted him and it was surprising to him that it went down that way. He took less than Chase Daniel money to play a pure backup role - there’s no sugar coating it. The league ...

Strangely, KC doesn't run Texas Tech's offense just to accommodate Patrick Mahomes. 8-) Maybe GB is running Cal Football concepts? :-P :-P

Re: Nagy optimism

Nagy was hired for a reason, agreed, but he was saddled with a QB that couldn't run his offense. Coaching is not about hammering your system down a player's throat, it is always about putting them in position to succeed. Unless you are saying that scheme comes before player no matter what, in which...

Re: Akiem Hicks looks in shape

Contract years are great motivators. But he'll probably be playing elsewhere next year. Hicks will be 32 in November - he's seen his last big dollar, multi-year deal. Chances are he'll get some one-year, maybe two at the most, offers next off-season. Dollars might be "ok" but the guarante...

I gained a ton of weight too. But hey I'm just happy I can still shank a golf ball into the woods. Same. Too many smoked meats and bourbons on random days of the week and not enough of my previous physical activities due to places being closed. Sorry in advance for the brag, but I found Covid helpf...

Re: Nagy optimism

It is absolutely 100% TRUE that Nagy did not tailor his offense to the NVP. Nagy explained exactly why ... "I didn't come here to run the I Formation". Put simply, Nagy realized that by attempting to make Trubisky look serviceable he was dooming himself. So his thought process was "s...

Re: Nagy optimism

I'm not arguing whether or not Mitch is a NFL QB. That's not the point. The point is that Nagy refused to tailor his offense Mitchell. He forced him to be something he's not. Even if he's NOT a NFL QB because he can't throw it deep, why would you keep encouraging him to do precisely that? If he's n...

Re: Nagy optimism

I was upset with Jordan Howard as well, I REALLY liked Howard when he was here. BUT, if Howard was all that I thought he was, he'd have made a bigger impact in Philly/Mia - neither team had established starters but he failed to carve out a big role in either place. So Nagy isn't unique here, there'...

Re: Nagy optimism

I agree with the hot hand thing Yogi. I was mainly countering this bit by TMP: I don't think this is true at all. I say that based on Nagy's treatment of Jordan Howard. We had a consistent 1,000 yard rusher on a rookie deal in the prime of his career. Who in their right mind gets rid of a guy like ...

Re: Nagy optimism

Tenn, NE, and Baltimore were the only teams in the league at 50% or better running the ball. It's just not very common at all. League avg seems to be roughly 58/59% pass. Nagy was at 62 last year, not far off and a bit higher than his previous two seasons (which I believe is due to the line issues m...

That sounds about right for 2021 NFL football. I'd be very happy if we had that same ratio.
We were right there last season.
Hmmm, a little surprised but not totally shocked. I think this narrative that Nagy's philosophically opposed to the run game is false.

KC runs a lot, I think there’s a chicken/egg debate here. Not a philosophy problem so much.
They're about 60/40 pass to run.

Re: Akiem Hicks looks in shape

This is great news IMO. I never understood those that wanted us to cut Hicks, the dude is one of our most important players. Assuming Goldman plays, our DL is set to be the best in the NFL IMO. Nichols/Goldman/Hicks is an absolute MONSTER. With Khalil friggin Mack on the edge? I mean, cmon that's go...

Re: Goldman a no-show to Bears mandatory minicamp

I'm keeping an open mind. Until we know more there's no point in targeting Goldman with attacks about his work ethic or personal discipline. Agree 100%. I remember when Roquan missed a game under mysterious circumstances two years ago, there were board members (one who is now banned) who tagged him...

Re: Nagy optimism

@Yogi da Bear I completely agree. That’s a huge flaw in Nagy’s thought process. The strength of the team the past three years has been the defense. A running game gives the defense a breather. But a running game doesn’t fit his idea of what an offense is. And to another point of yours, when you’ve ...

I guess I’d just counter by pointing out that we played the Lions and Giants. Once we played good defenses our OL simply couldn’t get it done and running was a futile effort.

I'll say it again, Nagy does not get a free pass just because Fields is a rookie. If he chooses not to play the best player, and we lose games, that's on him.
