Re: Refs already impacting games
Thx Ark, good stuff! Agree with all this, been wanting a Sky Judge for years. I think they also need to simplify the rules in a way that gives refs much more discretion over calls. Using crazy concepts like “intent” and “context. Instead of having to enforce every minute detail of a thousand page ru...

When he’s fit to play C, I’d play Bates there and replace Davis with Pryor.

Re: Refs already impacting games
Has officiating caused you to watch less football? Yes, I watch less football now than at any point in my life and the constant flags are one of the primary reasons. Not the only reason, but a very big factor. I find it hard to believe that people actually like flags being thrown every other play. ...

Re: Refs already impacting games
I’m assuming you meant “until they lose money they won’t care”? Certainly true even if not at all helpful.
I find the subject complex and interesting, and figured a group of hardcore football fans would be smart people to chat about it. Oh well…

Re: FBR: Fields struggling in shorts
If they keep winning then hopefully they keep playing him. But he didn’t light it up by any means, hoping he gets the nod again next week as I feel Tomlin still has an easy out to switch back to Russ. One more win though and he faces criticism for switching.

Re: Refs already impacting games
If the league had a “serious credibility problem” something would have already been done because it would be costing them significant revenue. They have an officiating inconsistency issue at best. IMO that's a huge over simplification. If your point is that poor officiating hasn't cost the league r...

Re: Refs already impacting games
I counter your "crying" insult, with a simple comment: Burying your head in the sand and ignoring an obvious problem that the league has had for many years is foolish. And attempts to move the goalposts on the argument to a conspiracy theory is moronic. The league has had a serious credib...

Re: Waldrons debut
JMO but while I was disappointed in Waldron, just like I was with CW and the rest, I recognize it's just the very first game and expect that he will do much better going forward. I'm not sure how the OC is going to look good when the OL can't block anybody and the QB can't hit the broad side of a ba...

Re: Caleb Williams Mega-Thread
The last time the Bears won a game with the offense gaining 150 yards or less goes back tto the Rex Grossman era. Maybe this defense will be as strong as those early 2000s teams. That 67 yard KO return from Carter gave me Hester vibes. The offense looked like a John Shoop offense, being led by a Ko...

Re: Refs already impacting games
I coached Basketball for 20 years. I always told my players, never let the Refs dictate your game. If they are making questionable calls, adjust your approach and take that away from them. If they call ticky tack fouls for hand checking, stop hand checking and move your feet. That Ravens tackle jus...

Re: Game Balls and Horns Wk 1 vs TEN
Most folks here have done a good job pointing out the proper accolades and whatnot. Re: Caleb Yeah he missed some. I got the impression he was coached to avoid turnovers at all costs, and he did exactly that. He made a few really nice passes (including the dropped TD by Allen) and runs. Hate that w...

Re: Refs already impacting games
I think the other problem that makes this not cut and dry is, the calls against the ravens were called against their LT. They were called by the Line Judge, which is positioned on his outside hip. Crying about the Chief's RT, which is being watched by the Head Linesman on his outside hip is talking...

Re: Game Balls and Horns Wk 1 vs TEN
I don’t know what to do about Davis. I suppose sitting him is best but he doesn’t appear to be motivated by anything - he’s just a human turd. Vrabel was right. I’d like to join the folks pushing back on Dex getting a horn - he popped several times and made some disruptive plays inside. Billings out...

DJ Moore extension is a clear win for the franchise, I don’t understand how that’s not an obvious one given the recent signings that have taken place.

Re: Game Balls and Horns Wk 1 vs TEN
Yes, but I’m jacked about our defense. The DL played much better than I expected , and the new additions looked like they will be core contributors this year. Taylor being a weapon changes our whole dynamic defensively, let’s hope that continues

Re: Game Balls and Horns Wk 1 vs TEN
Player of the game: Darrell Taylor. Welcome to Chicago! Turd of the game: Shelton. Sam Mustipher reborn. Other Kudos: Billings and Walker - Billings played tough inside all day, and Walker played well also and had the key play that sprung Tyreke for the winner. Edmunds - he had a huge play to keep m...

Re: Game Balls and Horns Wk 1 vs TEN
The team looked flat out bad and unprepared. We got pushed around upfront, and our savior QB looked, simply put, absolutely terrible. Then halftime came and the defense and STs saved the day, delivering 2 TDs and providing another turnover that netted us a FG. They won the game when our offense just...

I won’t crown him until we win a Super Bowl. But I stand by my assessment that his work thus far has been stellar. Those are two different things.

Re: A word about Ryan Poles
Yep, absolutely. Poles got lucky a few times, but my point on him was that he positioned himself perfectly to take full advantage of those opportunities when they fell to him. Pace would not have put himself in that same position, and even with the luck he would not have ended up where Poles has us....

Not gonna pretend like this isn't good news, it's just his knee its not like his life is in danger or anything - I've had similar injuries and didn't need a shoulder to cry on lol. He still gets full pay, while its disappointing for him professionally it's not a big deal "life wise" at all...

Re: Refs already impacting games
I agree the biggest point is consistency. I think there was the same issue with Jawaan Taylor last year and they flagged it occasionally but was doing it on many plays. I remember one game was particularly egregious and announcers mentioned it. Formations aside I saw the KC CB grab Bateman's elbow ...

Re: Refs already impacting games
I don’t know the motives or even if there was intent. All I know is it wasn’t called fairly, and that seems to be supported by various players, coaches, and impartial league experts. Diving into motives heads down a path of futility and ultimately abandoning the issue. Focusing on the facts raises t...

Re: 2024 NFL Rule Changes
Yea good call. For one game at least, the coaches appear to favor just starting at the 30 vs trying to gain an extra few yards of field position, but risking a big return by doing so. They may need to bring a touchback out to the 35.

Re: Refs already impacting games
Yea, the timeout wasn't an issue. The overturned TD at the end was the correct call also. The OL thing, was absolutely unfair. You asked if anyone would back it up Rusty, it took all of 30 seconds to find on X. Thoughts? More from the Ravens on this: "I thought it was a little different," ...
