Re: Jer’zhan Newton

If the Bears follow the same track as virtually every other NFL team then a prospect with an injury history either passes medical scrutiny or he does not and isn't even on that teams board. And this comes from a guy like Greg Gabriel who was part of that process with the Bears and NYG for many years...

Re: What would it take for you to move from the 1.1 pick

For me it's simple. YOU DON'T DO IT. You have the number one pick in a year where the number one prospect is considered special. Don't over-think it. Don't over-analyze it. Don't try to be smarter than everyone else. Use the number one pick on the consensus number one prospect. Full stop. That sums...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

One thing that seems to unique about this draft is that after the top picks who are essentially the QB, three WRs, and the top OL and DL players the second tier seems to grade out so closely to one another Poles or any GM should be able to circle at least 3-4 players he'd be happy with around the sp...

By now I would hope that any chance Poles will trade that #1 pick is one of those things caused by delirium. For good or ill the die has been cast. It just won't become official for another week.

Re: 2024 Offseason Program

It still burns me that Poles commited the unforgivable sin of paying a god damn running back. Swift better be top 3 this year. Yep. It's not that I don't like him as a player. But (a) don't pay running backs unless they're healthy and elite and (b) we had a very, very effective run game going with ...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

https://x.com/BillyM_91/status/1780949602646028592 There's that name again... Glad you brought that up because I was about to. Murphy seems to be rising on quite a few boards and if a top three WR isn't on the board at #9 he's probably a guy Poles and Flus should look at very seriously. He's pretty...

Re: Odunze or Nabers?

We may want to get used to it. I'd say there's a better than 50/50 chance it'll end up that way. Starting now it's time to let the NFCN know that Bears no longer "get off the bus running" only.

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

At this point in time do we really care what yet another evaluation has to say? I believe some of the "old school" types like Greg Garbriel put more emphasis on that incident than others but as of today what does it matter? He's still gonna be the kid we draft and pin our hopes on. We kno...

Re: 2024 Offseason Program

The expansion of EVP and SVP personnel along with every other front office position tallies as many or more than there are players on an active roster. Things sure have changed in the last 50 years or so when back then it was GSH, Mugs, and their coffee boy Ed McCaskey.

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

Nothing we haven't been over before. If the top ten go as expected with Minny trading up for a QB IMHO the most likely of the top position players to still be on the board is Odunze. If that's the case I don't think it would be wise to pass on him at all. I still think it might go CW, Odunze, DE/Edg...

Re: Jer’zhan Newton

This is a draft where it's a shame the Bears don't have that Carolina 2nd this year. I don't believe what may cause Newton to slide is so much his injury as his size. Most teams probably see him as a one gap 3 tech DT only so he's not a proper fit for them. He is for Flus and the Bears but we don't ...

Pending whatever medical evaluations teams have on him if there's no long term negative it looks like he'll go anywhere from the very late 1st round to the early 2nd round. If Poles and Flus wanted him that badly they might be able to cut a deal with Carolina sending back the 2025 2nd we own and wha...

Re: MHJ tanking his showing so the Bears can land him

Are you guys sure you aren't over estimating the cost? The delta between #5 and #9 is just 350 points. The current value of a top 5 2nd round pick ranges from 530-580 points. Even with reducing their value by 40% a top five 2nd round pick would be in the ballpark or enough so that maybe a 2024 4th k...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

Don't think he's a Tackle I think he goes higher than people think. He played OT in college and has enough length for OT in the NFL. His size and style make it seem more likely he'll end up at OG but he's another where team may value his versatility. If Poles is looking for an OL to add top level d...

It's no more than one guys take on it but it's not an impossible situation to pull off. If Poles wants it to happen and SD is willing to trade for a 2025 pick or picks it's not like it could never happen. I would wonder why SD needing to replace it's two best WR would want to make that trade to begi...

You might get a guy day 2 but not so much after that. A couple of your examples have yet to show they're elite. And unless your definition of elite differs from mine (and it seems to) a few good years doesn't make any player elite. It takes an entire career to do that. Nacua has been in the league ...

Re: Different trade scenario

Read my response to Sweetness. There's a difference between good WR and elite WR and one or two years of production doesn't make any player elite at any position. Elite is achieved across an entire career of top production. Keenan Allen is elite. D J Moore is becoming elite. In this draft, and only...

For one of the first times since Jim Finks ran the Draft, I have faith in the person who is making the decisions. So I'm excited and super curious at what he's going to do at 9. Boy, is this spot on. We finally have a real GM backed up by a real CEO and team president. That makes all the difference...

Question for ya' Yogi. Are you drafting a kid whose elite and may potentially become your # 1 WR or are you drafting for your #3 or #4 WR spot hoping maybe that kid ascends to a be a decent #2 or a slot guy? If one of the "big three" WR's are there, I think we take him at 9. Rome is a true X, which we don't currently have. The NFL draft site compares him to Larry Fitzgerald. He can be productive while he is learning and creating a bond with Williams. If those guys are gone, the greatest need ...

why this absurd fascination with the WR position? the Bears have DJ Moore & Keenan Allen and whoever is the QB will only have so many throws a game to share the ball with the WR's, TE's and RB's if they want to get WR help in later rounds, fine ... but to use the #9 pick on a WR would be absolu...

I searched for awhile this morning and couldnt find anything saying this. Regardless, it certainly doesnt make se...
