Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

For one of the first times since Jim Finks ran the Draft, I have faith in the person who is making the decisions. So I'm excited and super curious at what he's going to do at 9. Boy, is this spot on. We finally have a real GM backed up by a real CEO and team president. That makes all the difference...

Re: Different trade scenario

Question for ya' Yogi. Are you drafting a kid whose elite and may potentially become your # 1 WR or are you drafting for your #3 or #4 WR spot hoping maybe that kid ascends to a be a decent #2 or a slot guy? That's the level of talent you get in the middle rounds. Think Mooney, Scott, or Velus Jone...

Re: Different trade scenario

If one of the "big three" WR's are there, I think we take him at 9. Rome is a true X, which we don't currently have. The NFL draft site compares him to Larry Fitzgerald. He can be productive while he is learning and creating a bond with Williams. If those guys are gone, the greatest need ...

Re: Different trade scenario

I think we're going to find someone of impact at 9. If we can get Odunze or Nabors---boom you take him. If they're gone, you get the best Edge Rusher available. What do you guys think of this? What about trading up from 75 after having done the above? Maybe you get your Edge guy and then move up co...

Re: Different trade scenario

why this absurd fascination with the WR position? the Bears have DJ Moore & Keenan Allen and whoever is the QB will only have so many throws a game to share the ball with the WR's, TE's and RB's if they want to get WR help in later rounds, fine ... but to use the #9 pick on a WR would be absolu...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

Check the Trib Heinz. It was in something Biggs wrote. I don't have a subscription right now and won't until camp begins. And I wouldn't be all that positive they tag him either. Oh, I totally believe you... I just don't think Biggs knows what he's talking about. And, why don't you think they'd tag...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

Same here, and I was surprised because usually anything Biggs creates (article, radio appearance, etc) I consume immediately. I do recall that Poles was asked about an extension and he replied that he is intentional about the order in which he offers extensions, makes me think Allen isn't at the to...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

I searched for awhile this morning and couldnt find anything saying this. I'd think it'd be a big deal if this was actually out there, because some people would be trying to drag Poles for trading for a player without handshake agreeing on an extension first. Regardless, it certainly doesnt make se...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

Like I posted to Heinz it was in something Biggs wrote. Check out his columns in the Trib. I don't have a subscription right now. Let's look at it from a common sense point of view. Allen refused to take a pay cut in SD. Allen gets traded. We have him for one year at $23 mil but given his age is th...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

I'd say I'm experiencing more curiosity than anything else. A couple weeks ago how the first 8 picks were likely to go seemed pretty certain. Now I'm not so sure. I still believe Odunze will be on the board but which group presented the best option; WR, DL, or OL? I guess the way I see it is no matt...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

I would not discard the idea of drafting an OL at all. In Poles hierarchy of importance it's claimed that OT comes first, then DT, then WR, then DE. We probably can't rule our DT completely either. That's probably what's making this draft as interesting as it's become.

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

That's the other half to the equation here. Let's not gang up on Plank or anybody else about JF1. There are people that need to stop Poking The Bear (no pun intended) with this topic. Just let it go. It's over and done with. This is it right here. It’s a two way street, if you want to move in then ...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

According to Brad Biggs Ryan Poles has already offered an extension to Keenan Allen which he declined so far preferring to test FA next spring. So there's a very good chance he may be one and done in Chicago. If that's the case we'll need to replace him as early as 2025 and we have that opportunity...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

D J Moore's next contract will probably be worked out through an extension starting in 2025 that may or may not actually lower his cap hit that year. There's no way of telling yet or how much the deal will be for and what amount is guaranteed but it's probably safe to say it will be north of $25 mi...

Re: Bears New Stadium Nonsense Repository

Why is it not possible to build a new stadium on the site of Soldier Field? If the columns are that precious move them away from the stadium and use them as an entrance into the area. It's always seemed little ridiculous they needed to stay in place when the current renovations were done. Although f...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

Brad Biggs did his v3.0 mock with the Bears amazingly passing on Naber, Odunze, and Alt to trade down w/Denver for a 3rd and they take Washington OT Troy Fautanu. FWIW Alt, Fuaga, and Fautanu all carry a nearly identical NFL Post Combine Grade.

Re: New Bears numbers, so far

Moore's current contract runs through 2025. If they plan to extend him which is almost certain they'll do it in 2025 which could lower his cap hit then but if not he's still on the books for just $16.05 mil. So Poles could conceivable extend Allen at least through 2025 if they can come to an agreem...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

Comparisons to Mahomes and Rodgers. Ranked ahead of Burrows and Lawrence in the same draft. Elite arm. Exceptional play making skills. Rushing ability. High completion percentage. All of that praise and yet he only give him a 21% chance of being elite? Is that because it's the Bears who'll draft hi...

One thing that keeps popping up we seldom discuss is the possibility of using 2025 pick(s) to add another Day Two 2024 pick. I prefer to believe that the chances of this are extremely remote More likely than not but not impossible. If Poles decides to go defense in round one he'll still need anothe...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

From Aaron Schatz, a top analytics guy at ESPN: 75% chance that Caleb Williams will be an adequate starter, 21% chance that he's elite: "Williams is the consensus top QB in the draft for good reason. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and followed it up with a very strong 2023. He threw for mor...

Johnny Knox wore 13 and he was a good player until that horrible injury. Even more reason NOT to let Allen have it. Talk about jinx. :frustrated: Loved Johnny Knox though. One thing to think about long term in taking a receiver is that you'll have BOTH your QB and your #1 receiver (hopefully) reaching the end of their rookie contracts at the same time. That would be a lot of money coming due on those two positions at the same time. Something to be concerned with cert...

Re: I think we Bears fans are traumatized

If looking narrowly at 2024 season, DE is a significantly bigger need than WR. We already have a top 5 WR duo. That said, I agree that’s not how Poles will make his decision. He’s paid to think long term and that’s what he will do. Yup, I fear that some are looking at it solely on the basis of what...

If Poles and Flus decide to pass on a DE early but will look at guys who spec more as pure edge rushers who may be more compromised in stopping the run due to size a guy I really like is Mo Kamara.
