Re: 9th Pick

From PFF: Kancey’s burst off the line and initial move can be so quick and decisive that linemen just can’t match it. Interior linemen don’t have that kind of quickness, and tackles are often making up too much ground to execute their assignment to have any hope of really stopping him. Where he isn’...

Everybody is looking for the next Micah Parsons.
So Smith will be probably get over drafted.
That is, unless he really is the next Parsons.

Re: 9th Pick

I think you're right. Van Ness has ties to Chicago and the Bears. He has been compared to Howie Long and Justin Smith. Like Walker, you can move him around to create mismatches. From the Draft Network There’s so much to like about Van Ness and it starts with his functional strength. His ability to c...

Re: Orlando Brown to Bengals

Poles is expecting lightening to strike (somewhat) ala Braxton Jones with a RT, a 3T, a DT, a DE in the draft. I'm glad the Bears have a confident guy at their helm but sometimes you have to narrow the odds. I understand not paying insane $ for McGlinchey and Hargrave. I kind of understand not payi...

Re: Orlando Brown to Bengals

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FM3aMicWYAUFwOb.png Bears scheme calls for athletic lineman. Brown might be a fit in Cincy, and he may have been in KC, but not here. We all should be getting used to this by now. Poles is not a trout, he does not bite at shiny objects. And he is a value investor, he wil...

Re: Ekeler seeking trade after extension talks stall

Here is another tidbit from PFF: With David Montgomery set to hit free agency, the Bears have space in the backfield to add a complement to Khalil Herbert, in addition to creating a superior outlet option for Justin Fields in 2023. Ekeler led all running backs with 126 targets last season, 67 more t...

Re: Ekeler seeking trade after extension talks stall

He is pretty much a TD machine. Last year the Bears in total scored 18 rushing touchdowns Ekleler had 13, 5 more receiving. And just to remind a few folks the Bears may have sucked at pass blocking but they had one of the better run blocking units in the league. And they probably got better after si...

Re: Update: Dre’Mont Jones signs with Seahawks

Jones' PFF grade was 51.8, 41.8 against the run and 67.3 pass rush. An improvement in the pass rush but about the same what they already have as far as stopping the run. if we have learned anything about Poles it is that he will but a value on a player and go no higher. As far as he is concerned ove...

Re: The DJ Moore Thread

I think the Bears were 3 and 5 when they made the trade for Claypool. The offense was starting to cook but they needed more weapons. They probably didn't like or want to wait for FA and I doubt they expected to be picking so high. Anyway Fields needed help and they went and found one. They used draf...

Re: Enter The Multiverse: What If Pace Had The #1?

The Setup: George McCaskey does not fire Ryan Pace. Instead, he keeps Pace because George liked the Fields trade, and respected some other moves like the Mack trade. He gives Pace one more chance. However, Pace fires McNagy by order of George and also to save his own ass. Matt Eberflus is hired any...

Re: Grade The Trade....Down

Moore instantly makes the WR room respectable if not a bit frightening. The problem is what to do with that #9 pick. Assuming they fix the OL and IDL in FA, the last really desperate need is DE. After Wilson and maybe Murphy they are probably going to be reaching but the best second tier guys will b...

Re: What is your FA/Draft Plan?

What if the best LT available is already on the team though. I like Jones but he's not at Brown's level. Actually, if you believe PFF, he is exactly at Browns level. Both ranked 19 with a grade of 75.4 Jones is a (much) better run blocker 79.4 v 68.8 Brown is a better pass blocker , 76.8 v 70.5 for...

Re: How possible would it be?

From PFF: Ranked 11th: McGlinchey hasn't quite lived up to his top-10 pick billing coming out of the 2018 NFL Draft, but he is a quality starter at right tackle who has returned to form after suffering a torn quadriceps in 2021. He's dealt with various minor injuries over the years but has done well...

Re: How possible would it be?

I’m not sold on Jones. Yet. I know he has been highly regarded by many, but I saw him driven straight back into Fields way too many times. If he can strengthen his base and fix his technique against the bull rush, he could be pretty good. However, I don’t personally consider that position solved. I...

Re: A PFF Fancy Chart ..

I'd like to know how they equated draft picks to the $ of cap and restructuring. Draft capital and effective cap space are normalized to a number between 0 and 1, while restructure potential is normalized to a scale between 0 and 0.5 to account for our earlier assumption that it’s valued at half as...

The PFF draft value chart estimates the value of a draft pick by projecting the amount of PFF WAR (wins above replacement) a player drafted at that pick generates during his first four years — the length of the rookie contract —on average

Re: Bush, anyone?

His PFF grades are roughly equivalent to Roquan Smith when he was here.
Smith's went way up when he moved to a 3-4 so maybe Bush's will go up if he goes to a 4-3.

By the way, I had a C- in logic in college:
All men are mortal
Socrates is a man
Therefore, all men are Socrates.

Very well done. There are several folks on this board who easily surpass the sports media in terms of well thought out and illuminating ideas.
