Let's see, Tunsil smoking dope with a gas mask on dropped him to 13 so maybe a joint would drop him to 9 :-D

Possibly trade to 7 if Nabers and/or Odunzeare still available to keep any poachers at bay. But the Bears may sit tight, take Bowers if they're both gone.

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

Brad Biggs did his v3.0 mock with the Bears amazingly passing on Naber, Odunze, and Alt to trade down w/Denver for a 3rd and they take Washington OT Troy Fautanu. FWIW Alt, Fuaga, and Fautanu all carry a nearly identical NFL Post Combine Grade. Don't think he's a Tackle Fautanu can play tackle in t...

NIL and Underclassmen in Draft

The NIL policy took effect in 2021. 128 underclassmen entered the draft following that season followed by 100 and 82 in succeeding ones. There are 58 in this year's draft. NIL is the cited as the reason for most of the guys althoughobviously not all as some are still entering the draft. It is possib...

Don't see him dropping lower than 19, the Rams need a Donald replacement. If the Bears trade down, it will come down to him, Murphy, Latu, Verse, Thomas, or an OT.

Success Rate by Position, 1st Round Picks

Don't know why it didn't include QBs and WRs but the article was slanted to OL. Guys who became consistent starters: Historically over all NFL history, 83% of OL, 70% of LBs, 67% of TEs, and 58% of RBs and DL meet this criteria. I thought RBs drafted in the 1st would become automatic starters. From ...

Murray's had the least amount of success but has had more limited weapons around him.

Re: MHJ tanking his showing so the Bears can land him

Man you'd have to be absolutely in love with him and consider him to be a tier or two above Nabers and Odunze. That being said, if you want to move up to 5 you're likely looking at giving up next year's Carolina 2nd and maybe a 3rd or 4th this year. Pretty steep -- but if you think he's a HOF mater...

I always like to spot the unusual names in the Beast by Dane. One of my all time favorites was Wesly Mallard of the Oregon Ducks. Lots of experience at the position and in Getsy's offense. He'll be a mentor for the starters at G and C and a decent backup.

4 teams have not had a QB pass for 30 TDs in the 21 century:

Miami (last time Marino in 1994)
Browns (last time Sipes in 1980)
Commandos (last time Jurgenson 1967)
Bears (never had one)

Here's hoping Williams breaks the streak

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

First 8 picks go:
QB
QB
QB
Harrison
QB (Minny trades with the Chargers)
Nabers
Odunze (Jets trade with Titans)
Turner

So Alt is sitting there as is Bowers, Fuaga, Verse, and Latu. What are you going to do? I say take Alt much as Bowers is tempting.10 year rocks at both tackles.

Re: Odunze or Nabers?

Steve Smith, the perennial All Pro and future HOFer, evaluated the top 3 WRs. He says Odunze is talented but didn't have to fight for the ball and win outside overly much playing against weak Pac 12 defenses. He does say this is a skill which can be learned. Haven't read anything from him regarding ...

From Aaron Schatz, a top analytics guy at ESPN: 75% chance that Caleb Williams will be an adequate starter, 21% chance that he's elite: "Williams is the consensus top QB in the draft for good reason. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and followed it up with a very strong 2023. He threw for more...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

Only in 3 other drafts has a team taken a 1st round QB and WR:

1968: Detroit - Greg Landry and Earl McCullouch
2004: Buffalo - J.P. Losman and Lee Evans
2010: Denver - Tim Tebow and Demaryious Thomas

If the Bears take a WR at #9, it would be the first time that a team drafted both in the top 10.

I keep hearing a lot of people say that Byron Murphy II is highly underrated in the media draft community (compared to NFL people) and despite the lack of length could be a real possibility at 9 for the Beloved. One of the top DEs or 3Ts will be available by trading down a few spots while snagging a 2nd or another 3rd. Poles does like his defenders and building up the DL. If, however, one of the top 3 WRs is still on the board, then Poles will really have to consider taking him and really jumpstarting the B...

The Bears wouldn't lose that much more revenue if they went with AH and the taxes the school districts want. I figure Warren's playing high stakes poker. Save and excepting a downtown plan is developed showing significant revenues flowing to the Bears, I don't see how they can walk away from AH. Dev...

I couldn't sleep last night, so I came out and did a Mock Draft with PFN. In it, I was offered a trade by the Rams: the #9 pick for the Rams 19, 52, 155, and next year's second. I took it and came away with 19--WR-Brian Thomas; 52--DE Bralen Trice; 75--DT Braden Fiske; 122--OC Beaux Limmer; and 155...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

The Cards supposedly want three 1sts to move up to their #4 pick. Ouch, very premium. Looking at the trade chart, the Bears would have to give up #9 and a 2nd at least for #5 if the Bears wanted to move up for Nabers or Harrison; don't know if that 2025 2nd from Carolina would be enticing. Looks lik...

Looking at #12 to #14: Denver, Vegas, and New Orleans. Denver is thought to be going after a QB. Vegas either a QB, OT, or CB. NO an OT. Has been getting good writeups from draft analysts, some saying he might be the best OT candidate in the draft, even more so than Alt. He's big, mobile, a punishing run blocker. My bad, ran out of fingers. Turner is still there at 9, ATL takes a WR at 8.
