Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

I really hope those feeling dejection/rage at losing Fields do not project that anger into an anti- Caleb Williams vibe from day 1. I'm about 85% sure the Bears will take Williams, but a small part of me wonders if maybe it'd be better for the fans if they took Maye or something instead just to avoi...

Re: Justin Fields Megathread - A story of Lovers and Haters

Interesting that the guy that covers the Steelers was right while the YouTube video maker that declared Poles already decided to keep Fields was wrong. Hopefully, one good thing that comes out of this toxic cesspool the past couple of months have been is that Bears have gotten a lesson in the credi...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

The Bears destroyed Fields, not the fans  I really don't think they did. They traded a #1 overall pick for a top tier WR, had a great TE at his disposal, used their top pick after trading back on an OL. They changed the offense to suit his style. Provided a strong defense. I'm not saying ...

Re: Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh for conditional pick

Agree that the QB we take is stepping into a good spot.
You never know how a season will go with regard to injuries or other things, but on paper at least we appear to be solid.
Kudos to Poles there. This is his baby now, no question.

Re: Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh for conditional pick

Dang. I was on record saying he was overvalued by folks who thought he’d bring a 2nd, but figured he’d get us like a 3rd or something. 6th? Yikes. I don’t really blame Poles here though because the market just is what it is. If there was a team or teams out there who thought Fields was worth a bette...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

I think to even state any outcome is only speculation right now. And as for 3rd best prospects doesn't that describe Patrick Mahomes in his draft? The reality is that top 5 drafted QBs have only a slightly better that 50% success rate. The other 50% are like Mitch and end up as career backups or in...

Re: Bears trade 4th rd pick to Chargers for WR Keenan Allen

Also, I think he's not a player who you would bring on to maximize Fields, since he is more of a technician/precise route runner type WR, where you have to anticipate and throw to precise locations instead of just hope the other teams inexplicably plays man coverage and he breaks free. To be fair t...

Re: Justin Fields Megathread - A story of Lovers and Haters

Here are the three realistic possibilities for Fields' going forward: 1. The Vikings/Patriots Draft Scenario. In this situation, the Vikings trade picks 11+23+R12025 to the Patriots for pick 3. The Patriots then trade picks 11+34+180 to the Bears for 9 and Justin Fields. I think there is a chance t...

Re: Bears trade 4th rd pick to Chargers for WR Keenan Allen

Crazy. Did not see this trade coming at all. Poles sure doesn't mind to trade off picks for established players. Anyway, I like Allen, but agree with the sentiment on being a bit concerned with his age. Also, I think he's not a player who you would bring on to maximize Fields, since he is more of a ...

Re: Some Free Agent ideas, your thoughts?

Who is the best interior DT available? That's the missing piece from Flus' defense. Sure a second pass rusher would be nice, but we really need someone to cause problems in the middle. Our rookies have shown promise, but I really think we need to double down with a vet inside. Wish we could get Simm...

Are you saying CW is the Monkey Paw? No, but his father/agent/promoter may be. Even the Trib had a column dealing with this part of the CW equation today. As I've said all along I have no doubts about CW skills as a QB. He's earned the right to be seen as the top QB in this draft. But his skill set...

Re: Justin Fields Megathread - A story of Lovers and Haters

Maybe said teams see the weakness that the Bears have seen and are not willing to ante up much. I mean a team is wanting to trade their QB because he has not measured up to that teams standards. It is not like the Bears are trading a Stafford, Brady, Jackson or someone that is top shelf. When a tea...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

Stafford put up elite numbers, and he’s also ranked high, maybe #1 in most career come from behind wins, so it’s not like he hasn’t been a clutch performer. But I admit something is missing there for him to be truly considered elite, although he’s got the same number of SB wins as Rodgers in the end.

Re: HYPOTHETICAL: We don't have pick 1.1

Good thought exercise. I think if we did not have the #1, or say #2 pick, I'd be on board with keeping Fields and building around him. The next tier of QBs have enough questions around them that at least you've got a known quantity in Fields that you could upgrade around instead of spending a pick o...

Also think Eddie still brings solid play at this stage. None of the individual stats that Fields puts up can be used to evaluate his play. And QB Win/Loss record is also a stupid QB stat. Except in this thread where "Played winning football the second half of the season" is now the most important way to evaluate. Can't wait until this is done a...
