Re: GM Candidate: Rick Smith, former Texans GM

He is my 1st choice as well but as you said... "Smith is so much of a no-brainer that even the Bears brain trust shouldn't even be able to screw this up." That is exactly what concerns me... We had Arians at Halas Hall wanting to sign on as HC and the dumb asses passed on him for Trestman...

Re: GM Candidate: Rick Smith, former Texans GM

Smith is my pick too. Hoge and Jahns did a great interview with a guy who covers the Texans and he did a great job of making a case for Morocco Brown who wasn't really even on my radar, but Smith is so much of a no-brainer that even the Bears brain trust shouldn't even be able to screw this up. He ...

Makes sense if Raiders are serious about hiring Harbaugh and he demands GM control and/or wants to hand pick a GM.

Re: Chicago Bears fire HC Matt Nagy & GM Ryan Pace

The way we keep adding candidates, it would seem the HC position would be by GM preference... That said, we have seen the whole charade before with George & Ted. Maybe the Bill Pollian influence will make a difference this time.

The fact that he was the OC in 2011 and likely has some ties to the org from his past make it seem to be a strong possibility.

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

I have a feeling Flores is the guy. Or at least a very good chance. They're either doing their homework on him hard or building out his staff. Since he interviewed the following interviews/requests were announced: 1. Caldwell (hired by Flores but stepped down for health reasons only a few months in...

Re: A LOT of smoke about Harbaugh…

Has Harbaugh came out and said anything himself? No. He has hired on a new, well thought of DL coach. That move right there told me he is going nowhere this year. Someone besides Harbaugh is putting shit out there. No surprise, really. Yeah, when he hired Elston it seemed to seal any false hope he ...

Re: Bears to interview Bills OC Brian Daboll

I want a HC that can identify quality coordinators like Daboll and Frazier. Fun fact: From 1954-59 the NY Giants top two assistant coaches were Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry. I forget the head coaches name. McDermott certainly knows how to bring in good coaches... I also would not be surprised if K...

Re: A LOT of smoke about Harbaugh…

Almost seems we have a red flag for lack of mutual interest for/from Harbaugh... Not sure if it is on the McCaskey family side or maybe even Pollian has his reasons as to why he is not even on the list... I would not be surprised Harbaugh has privately stated he does not have interest in the Bears. ...

Do you have any backup for that claim? Recent history is that teams have almost exclusively gone the scouting route, but I'm curious about methodology. It’s from this article: https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2022/1/6/22869889/nfl-coaching-carousel-avoid-mistakes The data showed that teams with GMs fr...

Long time Steelers employee, now a Vice-President. He has more experience with the cap side rather than scouting. Polian favors guys from stable long-term successful organizations and the Steelers have been the poster child for this since the late '60s. McCaskey is big buddies with the Rooney famil...

Watched a DaWindyCity Productions video on YouTube and it mentioned how well Khan could also be an asset on the accounting side when Phillips retires. Also noticed an old article from 2020 with that exact thought in mind... He would have to lean on scouts for the best draft and personnel decisions, ...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

Yes - but what I am saying is that if the head coach wants to talk to an NFL team - the university isn't going to tell him no. Kingsbury had just been hired as an OC at USC when he was initially denied permission to interview. He was a splash hire and USC was rightfully pissed that he was still loo...

I'm no expert at any of this. But Rick Smith is my guy. Total co sign. I’ve been reading/hearing good things about him for years and he appears to be highly respected across the league as a “football man.” He also has learned a quite a bit about life and perspective over the last few years. I think...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

Maybe the Bears can't talk to Harbaugh. But Polian can. That is possible... Still think they would have to contact Michigan AD Warde Manuel if anything began to develop publicly if the rule remains active. College head coaches hold too much power at their universities to worry about this rule. If t...

If the bears had fired Nagy last year, how do the coaching candidates from last year compare to the candidates from this year? Would pace still be around? Not as the HC but to be the OC if we bring in a “defensive guy” to be the HC. I liked him at LSU and thought he looked good early on with the Panthers, but injuries and getting saddled with Darnild as his QB put him behind the 8 ball. Yeah this is like item 872 and we are in item 6 but I have this ...

They're not going to interview Harbaugh? Or do they not have to report interviews with college coaches?
