Re: Game Balls and Horns Wk 1 vs TEN
Game balls: D Taylor Dexter Billings Edward’s Hardy Owen’s Johnson Stevenson Carter Horns Caleb. Best I can say about him is that he wasn’t as big a train wreck as Justin was in his first start (and he had the benefit of regular season reps the prior week). That said, Caleb was off most of the game ...

Re: Preseason Week 3 // Bears (2-0) vs. Bengals (0-1)
After a terrible start, Caleb again showed off his remarkable natural talent. I think he may struggle early on playing “within structure” with much of his initial production coming from improvisation and off schedule plays. Hopefully, he, Moore and Allen will be on the same page week 1. Caleb showed...

Re: Preseason Week 3 // Bears (2-0) vs. Bengals (0-1)
Caleb with an awful start to the game - 2 awful throws followed by a bad miscommunication and subsequent intentional grounding.
Update - 3 3 and outs. Caleb is 2-6 and his pass catchers aren’t helping. Poor effort on that slant by Moore

Re: Preseason Week 2 // Bears (1-0) @ Bills
Agreed 110%. Caleb and the offense apparently had their second consecutive poor practice today against a first team defense missing 5 starters. No reason to panic. Imo - stroud apparently struggled mightily in camp a year ago and was terrible in his first preseason outing. Good, bad or ugly, the fir...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread
I think many of us - me included - are predisposed to either loving or loathing Caleb. I personally have yet to read into anything he’s said that indicates he thinks he has nothing to learn - that he’s “already arrived.” Being confident and having lofty goals is what I want in a QB. Players like Rya...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread
Agreed - teams generally don’t settle for the QB they don’t have ranked as the #1 prospect in order to load up on picks. As for Fields’ physical prowess, it led to…nothing. His amazing athleticism and power was more than balanced by his remarkable lack of productivity as a passer. I still say we cou...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread
Perhaps - IF the bears believe(d) that Maye and/or Daniels are near, at or above where they rank Caleb Williams. Even then, hard to say, unsubstantiated rumors aside, what the Bears would have received in return to move down 1 or 2 spots. Regardless, unless this is the smokescreen of all smokescreen...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread
Imo, Justin Fields’ lack of development as a passer made trading back for yet another “haul” unlikely. A struggling 4th year QB with a 5th year option decision looming likely made acquiring a quality oc problematic and set the stage for the kind of QB uncertainty now facing Minnesota and Las Vegas. ...

Re: "The NFL QB Who Didn't Give A ****"
Jay was imo a far more talented passer than fields - faster release, when he was prepared and dialed in (often an issue with him), a much faster processor. At his worst, he was far more productive than fields quote=Grizzled post_id=378483 time=1711288894 user_id=2351] What would Cutler have done wit...

Re: Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh for conditional pick
Imo, this is poles being true to his word - doing his best to “do right by Justin.” Also, per Courtney Cronin, Poles was initially asking for a 2nd and 4th for Justin, and no one was remotely interested. Teams that discussed fields with the Bears only viewed him as a backup. Pittsburgh was the best ...

Re: Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh for conditional pick
FWIW, some in the Pittsburgh media are reporting that Wilson is the “unquestioned starter” and that fields is there to “fill out the QB room.” That said, I do agree that Pittsburgh is likely the place where Justin has the best chance to play in the regular season. Curious to see what the Steelers do...

Re: Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh for conditional pick
Guessing that poles was serious about “doing right by Justin” by trading him to Pittsburgh, where he has a fighting to get meaningful playing time, rather than some place like Philadelphia, where fields had no shot at unseating Hurts. I (also) wonder if the pending 5th year option hurt his trade val...

Re: Bears trade 4th rd pick to Chargers for WR Keenan Allen
Understanding I’m generally wrong about these things… Imo, this move screams “building an infrastructure to support a rookie QB with very high upside as a passer” a lot more than “we’re keeping Justin Fields!!” Justin has many gifts. One of them is not being a prolific passer. He’s one of the league...

Caleb didn’t necessarily “cancel” - they’re rescheduling for after USCs pro day. https://gridironheroics.com/caleb-williams-cancels-visit-chicago-bears/ Its wierd but also makes some sense. Re: Justin Fields Megathread - A story of Lovers and Haters
Agree to an extent on mechanics - don’t agree on ark strength. Williams and Maye’s arms are as strong or stronger. And no one is close to Williams on off platform throws, particularly downfield. IF that is a video about Fields being traded to the Falcons, 1) I hope he kills it there, 2) I'm 100% on ...

Can’t draw any definitive conclusions imo from the presser. Poles tone and language were different than a year ago AND there’s no real need to drum up additional demand for the #1 pick - it’s already extremely high

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread
Williams extreme confidence can go either way imo. On the negative, we have Jay Cutler, who had maximum confidence/arrogance to the point where he’d continually throw at a DB who had his number, leading to 4 ints by said DB or throwing a ridiculous number of pick sixes. On the positive - there’s Aar...

Re: Fields Nets Poles What?
Imo, two+ things can be true at once. The bears can use more talent on offense AND Justin Fields, in year 3, should have been a more productive per game passer than he was in 2023. The Texans and Packers can use more talent on offense, yet their QBs were far superior passers in 2023 than Justin Fiel...

it’s extremely rare for Biggs - or any beat writer - to be as emphatic as Biggs has been about the QB position. He could be wrong - or perhaps he’s Ryan Poles’ useful idiot - but that seems unlikely. Imo, no beat writer is more dialed in with the bears than Brad Biggs. When he is emphatic/goes out on a limb, he’s rarely if ever wrong. Is it possible that, as Mike Florio suggests (for some reason, he hates the idea of Caleb Williams in Chicago - more from Williams perspective than the Bears) that...

I agree, in season, he went from terrible to ok. We saw that same thing happen in 2022. When we look at year over year improvement, there is some as a passer, but not much imo. At the rate he’s ascending, it may take another 3-5 years for him to be a legit nfl passer, not just a player who makes the...

Justin fields likely wouldn’t come close to 4300 yards passing with that group. He might finally cross the 3,000 barrier.,.. While I understand the point you're trying to make, Geno Smith hasn't been playing for 10+ years. He had a 7-year stretch where he started 5 games. The embarrassment I referen...

Will be interesting to see which, if any, teams in the league truly view fields as “ascending.” Elite traits? Absolutely.
