Re: Bears talked to Greg Olsen during 2020 offseason

You're not really making a convincing argument here and I feel like your focus is now on the "amount of scheming to a player's strengths a coach should do", which is really pointless at this juncture. We agree that coaches should tailor their schemes to the strengths of their players, rig...

Re: Bears talked to Greg Olsen during 2020 offseason

Walsh/Seifart transitioned from Montana to Young, two very different players, yet still ran their west coast offense. They didn’t change it when Young took over. Andy Reid still runs his offense with Mahomes, whose a very different player then Alex Smith. They didn’t change the offense for Mahomes....

Jesus Christ. This is infinitely worse than Grossman/Orton or Cutler/McCown. I didn't want the Bears to draft Mitch. The Bears drafted Mitch I wanted Mitch to succeed after he was drafted by the Bears I saw the things Mitch did well and extrapolated them over the things he didn't do well I hoped he...

Re: Bears talked to Greg Olsen during 2020 offseason

Considering this in context with another thread, Greg Olsen is the poster boy argument against allowing a coach to dump talent that doesn't fit "his system" rather than trying to accommodate and incorporate that talent within his system. What Mike Martz did with Greg Olsen was criminal st...

Re: Nagy optimism

You skipped this too, which blows a huge hole in your Ravens example: The Ravens didn't do that, Harbaugh doesn't run that offense. Harbaugh hired Greg Roman to run that offense after they got Jackson, in part because he ran something a little similar with Kaepernick in SF and thought it'd translat...

I don't understand where "dumb down scheme" keeps coming from.

Fit scheme to players' strengths does not equal "dumb down".

Re: Nagy optimism

Sure, but if you know you are taking a QB and launching Fox/Loggains after the 2017 season, you're better off canning them a year earlier. Know who our head coach could have been if we made that move? Kyle Shanahan. Nope. If I was saying that, I would have said it. John Harbaugh has a Special Teams...

Really? I feel like it's pretty straight forward: A. Run Nagy's system no matter what, even if Justin Fields won't reach his ceiling in said system B. Re: Nagy optimism

It's foolish to draft your franchise QB knowing that you're going to fire the head coach and offensive coaching staff after the following season. That being said, I'm sure Matt Nagy sold himself to Pace by saying he could have success with Trubisky as his starter (and I suppose he did in a sense). ...

Re: Nagy optimism

Because it's counter productive in the grand scheme G08. Would you want Nagy designing an offense for ME or YOU to run? I mean, sure he could do it, but the net result would be poor. The better decision is not to work around a point of failure, it's to REMOVE the point of failure. And again, no one...
