Re: Head Coaching Tracker
I don't see him changing his mind as a problem. He hadn't signed the contract with the Bucs and the Jags made him a compelling second offer. Bidness be bidness.

Re: Bears Coaching Staff Tracker
I'm seeing Jeff Nixon's name get brought up a lot for the OC job. He's the Syracuse OC at the moment and worked with BJ in Miami.
I believe Syracuse had the best passing offense in football last season.

Re: Bears Coaching Staff Tracker
I think this reported Aubrey Pleasant interview for DC is something we should take seriously. He's a real up and comer and from what I can tell, the Rams fans do NOT want to lose him.
Guy coaches both sides of the ball and is also the assistant head coach. Worked with BJ in Detroit. Worked under ...

I don't think you have been paying attention.PaulM wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 6:03 am No new head coach is enough to win a title!
A completely new corporate winning culture is needed!
So I don't think that much will change - maximum one 8-9 season!
after that it will be just as bad as before...

Yeah I wouldn’t do that today. Mid-season maybe, depending on how it’s going.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 4:14 pmMe says “no”RichH55 wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 1:51 pm I'll throw this here.

Yeah I mean I’m not worried. It was more of a joke than anything, but I would like to see the big assistants in place by midweek next week.

Re: Build the Lines
I'm willing to give him another season in a better system to see if his regression was an anomaly. Concentrate resources on the guard position right now, and if one of those players ends up kicking out to OT to replace Jones, then great. But guard is the priority.

I mean, I would probably do it since that's more than fair for a starting NFL left tackle... but OTC currently has his valuation at about half that.

Re: Update: Bears to hire Ben Johnson as 19th head coach
IDK, I just don't know if that's a dynamic you'd want. Saints players essentially pushed Allen out in favor of Rizzi.
You are a manager, and you have an employee that people prefer over you...you get fired, he gets promoted you your job...then a year later you both end up as peers at a new company ...

Nothing confirmed, but Saints players preferred Rizzi to Allen and I just wonder if that's not a dynamic the Bears are wanting to entertain under a first time HC.

I brought this up earlier and I wonder if having Dennis Allen and Rizzi on the same staff isn't a great idea (assuming Allen is the pick).

Re: 2025 NFL Draft Thread
I loved Bredeson at Michigan. He was decent early on when the Ravens traded him to the Giants and then I don’t know what happened. He’s definitely elevated his play for the Bucs.

Re: Update: Bears to hire Ben Johnson as 19th head coach
I could see DeAndre Carter coming back. He had some pretty nice flashes.
Carter is a good call. IIRC I read that Johnson shows a lot of 2 RB 1 TE 2 WR sets, so I really do think that RB is something that we need to look at. Swift is one, but I really lost confidence in Roschon Johnson - JAG ...

Re: Update: Bears to hire Ben Johnson as 19th head coach
I do think a speedster makes sense. Seems like Allen won't be back and even with Johnson I don't want to trust Scott yet.
Tutu Atwell and Dyami Brown are two speedier FAs, both from teams with 2+ FA at the WR spot. That said Brown is probably playing himself into a big contract in these playoffs ...

I'm not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Obviously the Bears need to upgrade several positions on the OL, but I'd like to know what Johnson thinks of Braxton/KA/Wright first.

I'm not nervous yet. I would expect the major assistant positions to be filled between now and Monday. They could also be waiting on assistants from the teams still in the playoffs.

Re: Schefter: Bears looking to hire Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator
I see much the same with Edmunds. He was signed to play the Urlacher role in Flus Cover-2. In a more traditional defense Sanborn is the better MLB and maybe Edmunds moves to WLB. T.J. Edwards is in his contract year in 2025. Do you extend him or consider moving Edmunds to his spot?
Given his ...

Re: Schefter: Bears looking to hire Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator
I was listening to Detroit sports radio this morning and Dan Janssen said he thought it was going to be Dennis Allen for the Lions DC job. Said Campbell has lots of ties with him and Carmichael Jr, from their days at NO.
Would be pretty shady of Campbell to recommend Allen to BJ as the DC and ...

Re: Ben Johnson introductory press conference 1/22/25
I knew he should've come in and thrown a chair at someone, kicked over the podium, and put a stogie out on the wall before walking out without saying a word.
Every new head coach for the Bears should strive to invoke the ghost of Abe Gibron. It's a solid strategy.
But they’d know he means ...
