The Cardinals under Kingsbury have struggled late every year. We should have all been fading him since like week 10

Re: Bears to interview Bills OC Brian Daboll

First time GM and first time head coach in the biggest nastiest media market? And they've gotta make it work with Daniel Jones or a QB from this draft class or a guy now famous for being a sexual predator? Good luck

Personally I'd rather have my OC doing the seminar circuit or chatting up innovative college coaches over beers or grinding tape than lifting weights

Re: Whither Thou ARob?

The prevailing theory on this board is that he quit and didn't try etc etc but hopefully the incoming GM would know better. Everyone is getting fired so it's hard to say who exactly would be the trusted source but somebody - maybe even Soup Campbell - should know what the lockerroom thought about ho...

Re: Whither Thou ARob?

Is there a chance he comes back now that Nagy is gone? I'd prefer he move on. It feels like there's too much water under the bridge between ARob and the entire Bears community. Most of the benefits of staying are about loving the city of chicago and wanting to retire here with an established brand ...

The more I think about it the more it worries me that so many assholes like him. The Pats leadership and the Texans leadership are all terrible people, some of them are also stupid about football.

Re: Omar Khan, GM Candidate

Mike Sando and Mueller were on The Athletic Football podcast and raised the point that some owners don’t want a GM who knows more than them. So historically Ted kept the numbers and the scouting separate so he could still have control and value to the McCaskeys. With him being moved aside there coul...

Re: Omar Khan, GM Candidate

The is the “our head coach should be a ceo type” equivalent for the GM spot. He would rely on his scouts and pro personnel guys for evaluations and he would hold the ultimate vision for investments of money and draft capital. It would be a relief to have a guy at the top that will understand how to ...

Re: GM Candidate: Rick Smith, former Texans GM

Hoge and Jahns did a good job selling the idea that Smith would be a good choice because he’ll have absolutely no help from above so he needs to know how to do it all. He’s got the most experience and best chance of creating competent stability. This would be the “high floor” option to me. Maybe tha...

Re: JF1 Big Time Throws

Field position matters in this discussion but generally I think analytics supports the idea of chasing big plays even at the risk of some bad ones. Again - not turnovers necessarily. Look at this blog for some charts: https://www.the33rdteam.com/how-valuable-are-explosive-plays/ “If we get the ball ...

Re: JF1 Big Time Throws

The fumbles are a problem he needs to resolve but if the next coach can actually handle red zone playcalling I think the big time throws will lead to points and outweigh the sacks. The game is ultimately about points not yards or time of possession. 6 drives with an explosive play (pass or run) 3 bl...

Re: 2022 Salary Cap Outlook, v2 (PostPace)

Reading through here I see that I'm more bullish on Fields than most. He's shown enough that regardless of team building philosophy I'd want to operate in more of a "win now" mode. If I was George I would set the expectations for 2022 as top 10 team and 2023 as top-5 team. I think this off...

Re: Mooney moving

Ok yeah - long kid with some contested catch ability. I don't think it's crazy to spend a mid-rounder and hope he's your x of the future but that seems like a tough spot to start for a rookie because you can get pressed so easily. You better hope your round 2 pick is someone who can contribute immed...

Re: Mooney moving

You're talking about 2nd Round SE types? Who?

My feeling is that the Bears couldn't find a sure starter in the 2nd or later so it makes sense to sign FAs instead and plan to move Mooney accordingly. I think he can play any WR position pretty well.

Re: 2022 Salary Cap Outlook, v2 (PostPace)

I think you can only reasonably shore up one side of the ball and it makes the most sense to build a good offense for Fields to grow in. They need to get younger on defense anyway so let's start now and backfill the defense with draft picks (I see you've mostly done this Moriarty). I additionally wo...

If Cynthia "Queen of Dots" Frelund loves him then I think he's probably too forward thinking for ol' Georgie. It would be fun to have a young guy from the New NFL instead of a crusty old football guy but I doubt it.

I'm more concerned about his time running a bad Dolphins franchise from 2008-2014 than his time with the Saints.

But guys Wiki said he was a ball boy for the Bears when he was a child so we have to support him.

Re: Bears to interview Brian Flores

The more I think about it the more I doubt him. His success as a HC so far hinges on two late season runs when they played YOLO ball. And is he even a good DC? Does anyone understand why his defense sucked for most of the season even after they spent so much on adding players?

Re: GM Candidate: Glenn Cook, Browns VP

He’s a young ascending guy within their college scouting group. Is it possible the Bears are thinking of reshaping the front office and hiring more than one of these guys rather than putting the GM in charge of hiring everybody? They’re interviewing coaches too and don’t have a GM yet so maybe they...
