Re: 2024 NFL Free Agency chatter, there will be punch and pie

Went looking for the comet tonight. Went from Aldebaran to the Pleides to Jupiter to Hamal but 12P is still too faint for my 10x50 binocs. Maybe I'll break down and buy some astronomical binocs.

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

Misc Caleb stuff: In 2 years at USC, the team never lost when it held opposing teams to less than 33 points; they were 19-0. The 2 year record was 24-10 6 games in which he threw 5 or more TD passes and 2 games in which he had 5 TDs total 2 games in which he didn't throw a TD but scored a rushing T...

Re: IOL thoughts

4 guards making $20+M. 10 guards making $15M - $$19M +. Maybe time to pull a Bellichick and trade him high if they can't sign him for a "reasonable" amount. His injury history may hurt his trade value.

Re: "The NFL QB Who Didn't Give A ****"

As the OP said, a dversion during a slow period. Cutler's an object lesson in one with seemingly all the talent but whiplashed by coaching changes and an incredibly bad decision maker on the field.

Re: Plan that gets MHJ to #9

Harbaugh is crazy. I'm half surprised they didn't trade Herbert - the fit with him and Roman seems odd to me. Harbaugh is like Parcells/Darth Vader in that he wants "his guys", and it's his personnel moves that will ultimately do him in IMO. He likes his "try hard guys" who will...

What would Cutler have done with the right coaching staff? He was Fields before Fields.

Re: IOL thoughts

The Bears could draft both a C and a G and it would be beneficial. Zak Zinter, G, Michigan, suffered a season-ending injury late in the year and probably will be available in the 4th or possibly 5th rounds; he could be a target if the Bears get more picks. Sit him for a red-shirt year. Unless the Be...

Re: Plan that gets MHJ to #9

I don't know if the Bears could get to #4 or even #5 by offering 1-9, their 3rd rounder, and a 2025 2nd. One of those teams is going to ask Minny for both if its 1st rounders plus change.

Re: 2024 NFL Free Agency chatter, there will be punch and pie

It really is, and makes Poles long view, build through the draft plan so powerful. I'm SOOOOO glad we have Poles, he's building this franchise the right way. I get impatient at times because I just want us to win now, but I know what he's doing is the right path for us as a franchise for long term,...

Re: Bears trade 4th rd pick to Chargers for WR Keenan Allen

I wonder if Poles was aware of the counter offer prior to making the trade. Technically until the trade happened Allen was a Chargers player so would he have been able to have any conversations with Allen's agent? Not with the Chargers giving permission which they likely did before the trade occurr...

No mention of Fields which could harm the grade. Still pretty irrelevant. Re-signed JJ for less than the tag Acquired Gerald Everett Acquired Keenan Allen Signed Byard for half of what EJax would have cost. Don’t really care about the grade but Poles team have had an outstanding FA in my opinion, r...

Re: Bears trade 4th rd pick to Chargers for WR Keenan Allen

Allen turned down a pay cut. He turned down a multi-year extension with the Chargers; it is thought that this is because he didn't like the salary level he would had under it. So it is possible that he would accept an extension but is looking for more than the Bears will be willing to pay.

Re: Plan that gets MHJ to #9

Some web sites are ranking Nabers as the top WR. I doubt, however, that too many teams are going off draft analyst rankings. Yes, the Chargers need young DL to replace old expensive ones. They need WRs to replace Allen and Williams. They supposedly are looking at one of the top OT to play RT. And th...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

Pardon me if this was already posted and I missed it. I was exactly down on Williams when he skipped USC' Holiday Bowl game in '23. It has become the norm for guys expecting to go highly in the draft to sit out bowl games. Williams, though, recently said that he sat out so the backup QB from USC cou...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

Williams fumbled way too much (like Fields). I think both were from the QBs playing 'hero' ball, playing in offenses which weren't clicking a lot, the QB held the ball looking for something to develop. Waldron is implementing an offense with shorter drop backs and getting rid of the ball quicker. Al...

AH's new plan calls for the Bears to pay $6.3M in tax year 2023, $3.6M in 2024, and 3 to 10% increases based on market conditions for the following 3 years. The Bears have asked for tax certainty for 5 years and this may satisfy this condition. Unrelated to this story but the dealings of the Chiefs ...

If Alt, Nabers, or Odunze is available, grab him. Otherwise look for a trade which will hopefully provide a 2nd or at least another high 3rd and still give them a shot at shot at Verse, Latu, Jackson-Powers in the 1st, another WR in the 2nd/3rd.

He doesn't quite meet Poles' standards for a DE, being 6'1" and 240 lbs; Poles likes them bigger. But he's fast, has 58 career sacks, and Poles is supposedly enamored with Dallas Turner for those qualities to balance out Sweat as a power rusher. Send Philly back the 4th from moving down one pic...

Maybe why Bears fans haven't loved their QBs; ones drafted in the 1st round by the team: Sid Luckman, 1936 (and still, pathetically, the "standard" for a Bears QB almost 100 years later) Johnny Lujack (retired after only 4 season) Bob Williams, 2nd pick in 1951, played only in '51, '52, a...
