Re: Bears hire Matt Eberflus to be the next Head Coach

Hard to disagree with any of this. Brian, if I'm not mistaken, has lost much of his hearing - he likely would have taken over as chairman were it not for that. IMO, the Chairman is more of a ceremonial role than anything else....it's the job that Michael McCaskey was banished to when Ted replaced hi...

Re: Going back to 4-3 base front!!!!

The bears currently lack the pure linebackers to play a 4-3 - smith is a natural WLB - and that’s all they have.

Given the gaping holes on the roster and the limited draft capital pace left behind, I’m guessing we’ll see more of a hybrid defense

George won’t veto Ryan’s choice for head coach

I think he'll hire his own man, but his first choice might be subject to a George veto if some rumors are correct.

At least other teams have shown interest in Ryan Poles. And, if Brad Biggs is right, whomever is the pick at GM will be hiring the head coach.

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

IMO Brown and Eberflus have been the leaders in the clubhouse all along. Caldwell may be in the mix for head coach OR OC. Quinn supposedly has been a favorite in Denver from the beginning. IMO, Daboll has never really been in the mix for the Bears - that the fan base wants him won't, and arguably sh...

I don’t believe that’s the case with Eberflus

Re: Update: Ed Dodds withdraws from Bears GM consideration

Considering that Dodds did this to the Browns two years ago and the Panthers last year, I'm not sure there's much that can be gleaned here. The Bears are now doing what Ballard wanted them to do in 2015 - have the GM report directly to George. George is far more patient than other owners - others wo...

not sure if it was mentioned elsewhere, but Ed Dodds has removed his name for consideration for the Bears' GM job. He apparently did this with the Panthers last year and Cleveland two years ago.

Re: Chicago Bears fire HC Matt Nagy & GM Ryan Pace

FWIW, I tend to think the story about Nagy and Mitch is largely true...but that there likely is another "side of the story" that we're not hearing about - perhaps the no-show meeting was a misunderstanding or miscommunication. That said, and this is a guess on my part, I THINK Nagy was don...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

For me, if he wasn't 66 years old, Caldwell would be at the top of the list of "retreads" to hire. Has had a degree of success wherever he's been. That said, if the Bears hire a defensive minded head coach, Caldwell would make for a solid OC imo. Flores has not earned that type of demand I...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

Looks like Joe Schoen is getting a second interview with the Giants - think he hires Brian Daboll if he lands the Giants gig. In addition to Frazier, I think Flores, Bowles and Eberflus (especially if Dodds gets the GM job) are most likely. Graham is interesting - SUPPOSEDLY, within NFL circles, he'...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

IMO, George's biggest challenge has been Ted Phillips' inability to get the football side "right." We're NEVER supposed to hear from the Chairman of the Board. When we used to hear from Michael McCaskey, he wasn't he Chairman - he was the team President. When his mother kicked him upstairs...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

This not entirely accurate. In 2015, the gm candidate list was considerably smaller/more narrow. This list is not only bigger - it has every top candidate on it - not just people directly connected to Polian. The result may or may not be good, but it’s there’s no real credible quibbling with the lis...

Re: General Manager/Head Coach Interview Discussion

Actually, the gm interviews appear very specific and targeted - like the list has been compiled over a long period of time - long before pace and Nagy. Polian clearly has a plan here - whether it works or not is another story. The coaching candidates appear to be the equivalent of an initial screeni...

Denver is a better job in the short-run...Minnesota likely is as well. Long-term? No way - Success with the Bears dwarfs success in Denver or Minnesota. George's biggest issue is that he can't trust Ted Phillips with the football side of the operation. They hired pace instead of Chris Ballard, not Phil Emery. I don’t believe pace was a fan of cutler (either), but he didn’t demand the structural change Ballard did - ironically the structural change we see now. Actually, it appears that the new GM will be at the same level in the Bears' hierarchy as Ted - with both reporting to the Chairman.
